I have a Toshiba Camileo X100, which records in .AVI format in 1080p at 30fps. I wanted to try out After Effects, so I downloaded the 30-day trial and recorded some test footage to try out a certain effect. However, when importing my footage to the compisition, I found that 1: my video would not automatically render, and 2: when i selected RAM preview, the video did not play, but instead, only the audio played. There is also no option for the video to be visible/non-visible. I am sure i did not have the lens cap of my camera on, as i viewed the video in windows media player and it looked just fine. I tested out other clips that weren't from my camera but from my webcam instead, and they played just fine in After Effects. Any help would be appreciated to solve my dilemma.
What codec does your camera use?
See this video, which explains supported import formats, container files, and codecs:
(Yes, that is for Premiere Pro, but the important parts are all the same for After Effects.)
My camera shoot in a H.264 format of .AVI
Could simply be that their flavor of H.264 is out of spec and thus not to AE's taste... in that case transcodiung it using one of the ffmpeg derivatives is probably your only option...
