My login & password is exactly correct... but DW will not connect. Why?

My problem is that when I try to connect to my web host, (GoDaddy - which I've used for 6 years), I cannot connect.

I get the error message: 'Your login or password is incorrect.'

However, I know this is the correct password, since it's the exact login and password that works with my GoLive site.

It's also the exact password and login that the ISP sent me when I asked them.

I've adjusted all the FTP settings dozens of times also.

So if anyone has any ideas about this, I'd love to know what I'm doing wrong.

I've tried dozens of variations on the login page.

I have defined the site, I have run the site through Adobe Browser Lab, I've done everything.

I think it must be connecting, since when I have the 'remote' and 'test' buttons clicked on the site manager, it will connect to my GoLive site.

But in Dreamweaver the local and remote view file panel will not show it connecting.

Another question: Assuming I finally get to connect with the ISP, I assume I should erase my old GoLive site before I put up my new DW site?

Try your settings with a 3rd party FTP program like Filezilla.

Have you experimented with passive and other settings ?

Sorry I don't use DW for FTP.

Best advice, find a better host. GoDaddy may be cheap but cheap hosting is seldom a bargain.

Well just imagine my frustration after spending a week building a new site on Dreamweaver only to find it won't connect.

I don't understand why GoLive will connect flawlessly to GoDaddy... but DW is problematic.

I also get this cryptic message: "There is a web server running but no virtual web folder has been mapped to this prefix. A web virtual folder mapping is needed for local sites that aren't under the web root folder."

I tried FileZilla... but it won't connect either. So I'm flummoxed.
I use the exact same password and logon name that I use to successfully connect to GoDaddy when I log in.

By the way, I have a 3 year contract with GoDaddy... so that limits the ease of switching hosting services.

Thanks for any ideas anyone might have...

Why?

If the contract is for hosting alone, just direct your Name Servers to another web host and leave the Godaddy hosting account unused.

The only thing you lose is a little cash for 3 years upfront payment to Godaddy.

I tried FileZilla... but it won't connect either.
Something is not right. Contact your host to confirm log-in details.
Also check that you're trying to upload to the proper folder on your server.

Did you check to make sure that the password you have matches the database with the host server? Just last night, I tried to connect with a client's host using the password I had reset just last year. Didn't match. Only after I got the "current" FTP password was I able to connect.

Unbelievably, it actually connected once I reset the password.
