Button Hyperlinks Not Working in Multi-State Object in CS5....

    bfento Community Member

      OK,

Here is the problem. Picture a simple 1-stack cover page article with a background image and text that appears line-by-line, with each line, except for the title, being a hyperlink to its respective article. However, the hyperlinks do not work...

The article is built as follows.

      • Background image is on a separate layer named "background"
      • All 4 lines of text are in separate text frames, but are grouped together
      • I've created 5 versions of the grouped text representing the 5 states (from 4 blank text frames with the background image to 4 filled text frames over the background image) - all are the same dimensions and perfectly aligned with each other
      • These 5 text states are then transformed into a MSO with "Auto Play" and "Stop at Last image" selected
      • Each text frame that has text in it in any given state is converted into a button with a navto: hyperlink to the respective article so that it can be clicked in that state
      • Empty text frames are not converted into buttons, nor are they hyperlinked

Sadly, nothing works after I view in my iPad. However I created another document with CS5.5 and it works as expected... Is it a matter of CS5.5 vs CS5 or is it possible that I made a mistake or it's the version of the Folio Producer causing the problems?

CS5 is using FOLIO PRODUCER Version: 12.1.3.20120307_m_680879 7.0.5.17

CS5.5 is using FOLIO PRODUCER Version: 12.1.3.20120307_m_680879 7.5.5.18

Any help or advice would be greatly apprecitead.

      Thank you.

I'm not entirely sure I'm understanding you correctly, but I'll give it a shot. I'm assuming everything is being displayed as you wish it to, but the hyperlink won't work. From my understanding, you can't have a hyperlink in a MSO. I figured out a workaround to this problem, and that's to just simply create a hotspot on a new layer. I'd create a reasonably sized blank frame and make it into a hyperlink. Hope this helps.

You can insert hyperlinks into a MSO, but I'm having issues with CS5.... As a result what I'm doing in CS5 is adding empty buttons, as in empty frames converted into buttons with hyperlink actions, over the MSO (not part of it). But, the problem is that this hot spot as we call it is clickable at all times, even before the text I want it 'applied to' even appears as part of the MSO image sequence.

            • First the cover text 'appears' in STATE 1
            • Next the text with the name of the 1st article 'appears' in STATE 2
            • Next the text with the name of the 2nd article 'appears' in STATE 3, and so forth until all of the text is visible on the cover

I only want my hyperlinks to be active when it's respective text 'appears', not before, which is what happens with the ever-present empty hotspot placed over each text frame on a layer above the MSO or on the same layer as the MSO but over it.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I've had the same issue in the past with the hot spot buttons being active all the time. Unfortunately, that is the only way I know how to do it in CS5. Sorry I couldn't be of any further assistance. I'm hoping CS6 will be fixing these bugs.

But like I said in the 1st post, I'm able to add hyperlinks to the text frames in the various states using CS5.5 without a hitch.

I just tried creating a 2-state MSO using 2 colored circles (object frames without text) and making them each a button with a hyperlink to a different article as part of an image sequence using CS5. It works fine, unlike my attempts at using text frames as hyperlink buttons. I'm stumped....

CLARIFICATION: The MSO is a SLIDESHOW, and NOT an IMAGE SEQUENCE as I stated above.
