Adobe Acrobat pro ver 10.1.3 Crashes on open or use

    mglenn@ptd.net

After the update to Acrobat 10.1.3, now Acrobat crashes as soon as I hit any tab drop down.  It works converting if I convert to PDF a website page or use it during a program to convert to the the printer driver to PDF.  But once that opens and I click File-Save, it closes and shuts down!  I think this update was a bad version?  Anyone have a solution.  I tried to repair.  No change.  I tried to reinstall from disk and it won't as the disc is an earlier version. (Running Win 7 64 bit and with the latest updates)

          Hi,

Can you please let me know the following details:

          1. Are you able to launch any locally saved PDF via Acrobat normally.

          2. Whenever you do a File > Save operation, and Acrobat quits, do you see any sort of error message? Or Acrobat just quits abruptly.

          3. Do you observe the same behavior when you try and launch the Preferences Panel (Edit > Preferences) or the Print dialog (File > Print).

          4. Are you working in a Citrix Environment.

          Thanks

          Ankit

            Ankit:

            In reply to your questions:

            1.       Acrobat Pro would launch.  If I did nothing, it would automatically close on its own after 10 to 30 seconds.

            2.       Sometimes it would launch with a file open, as soon as I clicked on any drop menu, it would close.  Click on Open it would shut down, click on HELP, it would close.

            3.       Even clicking on Preferences, it would close.  Try to print it would shut done.  And clicking prink within the menu or task shortcuts, it would spool to the printer, cause the print to stop, then all my printer drivers would disappear.  I had to search for printers and got thru setting each one up to work.

            4.       I am not in a Citrix environment.   Run Windows 7 64 bit on a Dell 1747 1 ½ year old top of the line notebook.

I had tried to repair, restore, uninstalled, to no success.  I had to do taxes and view reports I saved from Quicken and literally had to download Adobe Reader X.  After using Reader I then uninstalled Acrobat 10.1.3.  Did a disk check, reloaded Pro X again at ver 10.0.0.  The next day/time I used my notebook, Pro X did an auto update and I let it install to ver 10.1.3.  I rebooted, and somehow it worked.  The screen does flicker when it reads a file now, not like before (small file(s) or large, it doesn’t matter.)  My printer drivers are erratic in use, I configure one for fast draft printing on two sides and another at normal printing on one side for letters.  The settings would not hold and one printer driver would disappear.

Any help or suggestions to get me back would be appreciated.

Just to summarize, your original issue of abrupt quitting of Acrobat is now resolved automatically and the only issue that remains is for the printer?

I had to reload the printer drivers and it finally worked after several software companies provided updates for the mess up by Microsoft’s recent updates.   The forum info I read at Adobe lead me to several fixes which helped in some small or another, but those fixes were successive and cumulative, I guess in correcting the print issue.  Thanks.

(Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the 10.7 release you can access the hidden or the root library by  navigating Finder, choose Go > Go To Folder

In the Go To Folder dialog, type ~/Library and click Go.
