I am waiting for hard drive prices to go back down and in the meantime I am trying to setup a hard drive system for my new build. I am a newbie to video editing, and will be editing 1080p MPEG-4 AVC / H.264 (Canon Rebel t2i). I have 8 gigs of ram.
Here is what I have available <what I think they should be in angled brackets>:
60GB SSD (Corsair Force 3) <OS/progs>
500GB 7200rpm external (but connected via esata) <media/data>
300GB 5400rpm notebook drive <scratch disk>
250GB 5400rpm notebook drive <? page file?>
What is the recommended configuration for this? (this is just to last me for about 6 months or so)
Thanks in advance
Mushkin 8GB DDR3
MSI N460GTX-M2D1GD5/OC2 GeForce GTX 460 1GB
Corsair Force Series 3 CSSD-F60GB3A-BK 2.5" 60GB SATA III SSD
PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 750W High Performance 80PLUS Silver
ASUS P8P67-M PRO LGA 1155
Intel Core i5-2500K Processor (O.C.)
Also, I have a seperate backup setup so no need to worry about that.
Looks like you have figured it out with the means at your disposal. Nothing wrong with this setup and for your peace of mind, eSATA is just as fast as SATA.
