slow pan and adjustment curve response issues

    laden.m Community Member

cs6 is great improvement for me as a retoucher. i am doing complex multi layer compositings in very high resolution (8000x8000px and +).

i love all the small improvements, like auto save and save in backgrownd. the new crop tool (command+enter is great hidden featureof it), new interface, but also many many more.

the performance is also aceptable till now, although i have two major issues with it.

      - pan isn't working fine. it is sluggish most of the time. flick panning is turned off. i tried all 3 grphic processor settings. (pan compared to cs5 is much slower in cs6, even with very small files, one layer)

      - second thing i duscovered is in the adjustment layer curves. i do not get a refresh on the image untill i let the curve point. in other words, while i am holding the curveand doing some adjustment, i see the result only if let go, not while i am draging the curve.

      - also the brush (wacom) isn't that smooth as in cs5, but probably mac performance issues:)

thanks for your response and sorry for my english:)

Do you have the most recent driver for your video board?

            hi pattie,

            thanks for your quick response!

i'm working on a mac, my system is always up to date, and there is no need for separate video board driver update!

in other words, i have the latest driver!

Here are a few things to try

For troubleshooting, try these (independent of each other) and see if either helps at all with performance-

              1) hide the layers palette (just switch to the channels palette) and see if performance is better.

              2) go to the layers palette and choose Panel options... from the flyout menu.  Change thumbnail size to "None" and try this again with the Layers palette showing and see if performance is better.

                hello pattie,

                thanks for your reply.

with thumbnail size to "none" the pan i slightly more responsive.

on the other hand the refresh of the curves is working good after fresh start. yesterday it didn't worked at all.

so i'm a bit confused now.

i'm just cofused because i really like the overall performance, but this two issues are really anoying!

                thanks!

Let's see if we can't figure out a way to improve CS6 performance on your system.

                  1.  Do you have any other applications running at the same time as PS?

                  2.  Have you tried using the application with "Use Graphics Processor" disabled?  If so, is performance better?

                  3.  Finally, can you tell me you tile size, cache levels, and history state preferences?  Are they set the same as CS5 on your system?

                  Thanks,

                  Adam

                    hi adam,

                    thanks for your help!

actually my setup and usage is the same as cs5, and really i don't have any other performance issues with cs6 except "slow pan" and non refreshing the image while adjusting the curves (only after i let go).

                    the answer to your questions:

                    1. i am running bridge, itunes and sometimes capture one (but not while developing), safari and stickies. i am not running these programs always together but at some point i end up with all of them running.

                    2. i just tried to turn off the "use graphic processor" feature. it was not better, if not even worse.

                    3. history states: 15, cache levels: 6, tile size: 1024

also tried all 3 GPU modes.

                    thanks!

                      hi adam,

just wanted to give you an update.

i am working the whole weekend with cs5 and sadly can confirm that  the pan and the curves refresh work much better and responsive in cs5.

i hope so much that these two issues will be gone for the final cs6 release.

                      best

                      m.
