    site ranking

    juliacox Level 1
hi i have a partial web site that i am experimenting with.
I have loaded it to the web
i have put it into search engines
But I do not know the first thing about how keywords work in dreamweaver8 what meta tags are.
      where to place keywords etc.
In short I would like my site to show up in a search engine when you type a keyword into the browser
I think this has something to do with tag accessibillities attributes?
Could some one explain this to me please?

          Hi

this area is a minefield with everyone have a different view. Do a search in
Google for search engine optimisation spend days reading and you will be as
          confused as I am.

Simply everysearch engine uses a different way of ranking sites and this
          changes as they change.

          The golden rules are

use Href links instead of Java because the search robots can't follow java.

          Avoid frames

          Good concise text is essential.

          A good concise title helps

Don't repeat text as it may appear as spam.

I also think a good domain name helps after all johnstoyshop.com or
          toysrus.com?

metatags, link, pay per click no doubt all play thier part but as a cynic I
relaise that every SEO company promises every client that they will be no
          1.

          cheers

          Ian

            Javascript, not Java.

                Where to put them etc
what is the accessibillities attributes in dreamweaver.

href, at a guess, is short for Hypertext REFerence. It's the attribute
used on an <a> (link) tag which tells the browser where the link leads.
In the context of Ian Edwards's response to your original question, he
means to hard-code links into your page rather than using javascript to
write them. That's what some menu systems, including DW/FW's dropdown
menus, do, and it's not search engine friendly.

                  > where to learn about them.
                  > Where to put them etc

Get yourself a good basic instruction manual on HTML and CSS. Then
stop using DW for a few days. Work your way through the instruction
manual using a text editor - notepad on Windows; BBEdit on Mac.
Handcode some pages. Then go back to DW. A lot of things will be much
                  clearer.

                  > what is the accessibillities attributes in dreamweaver.
                  > I mean what are they all about?

Accessibility and DW, at some level, have nothing to do with one
another. Accessibility has everything to do with writing good,
semantic, valid HTML which will render properly in most if not all user
agents (browsers, assistive devices). It also involves some judgement
                  - don't use low-contrast color schemes, for example. And it involves -
here it comes - knowing HTML.

DW can help you to do that, since it tries very hard to write good,
semantic, valid HTML; you can help it by knowing what you're doing.
