configuration advice; I'm in need of adding disk space on an iMac

      Hi guys,

Before I went ahead and bought stuff I thought I would pass this by you. Right now, I've been using an iMac with for the last 2 years with this config:

      Processor : Intel Core i5

        Speed: 2.66 GHz

        Number Of Processors: 1

        Total Number Of Cores: 4

L2 Cache (per core):  256 KB

        L3 Cache: 8 MB

        Memory: 8 GB

my graphics card:          ATI Radeon HD 4850

        Type:          GPU

Disk: Internal Serial-ATA  7200 rpm disk; 1TB capacity

My camera is a Canon XHa-1s which is HDV format. I capture using my single firewire 800 port. My adobe version is 5.5.  My performance is absolutely fine. However, I'm finding that I run out of disk space on the 1TB drive and am always cleaning things up.

I'm considering adding an external drive which would connect to that same port. Therefore, I'm considering using a hub that would connect to the external drive AND the camera. so the footage would come from the camera and go onto the disk at the same time.  Here is the hub:

Is this a totally stupid idea for performance? Has anyone used this successfully ? Advice ?

      thanks guys!
