1. Re: Encore CS 6 audio formats supported question
Neil Wilkes Apr 24, 2012 4:28 AM (in response to rexpost)From everything I have read so far, I wager the answer is "no", which considering it is the only mandatory lossless surround format in Blu-Ray is really quite incomprehensible to me.
As far as encoders go, it is not that expensive.
You can get the DTS-HD MAS system (including the streamplayer) from DTS for under $1500 - consider the Dolby True HD alternative at almost $10,000 for the full kit including tools.
The DTS-HD MAS suite is awesome, includes user set downmixing & also core audio (which is the mandatory component of the DTS-HD stream in the same way the buried/hidden AC3 stream is the mandatory component of Dolby True HD)
Still, I look at this as a large step in the right direction, myself.

2. Re: Encore CS 6 audio formats supported question
rexpost Apr 24, 2012 9:19 AM (in response to Neil Wilkes)that is a good price.
I like the price of Minnetonka DTS-HD encoder even better though
http://www.dtshdforcompressor.com/
$ 249 (works with apple compressor)
would have been nice to have something similar for media encoder.

3. Re: Encore CS 6 audio formats supported question
Neil Wilkes Apr 26, 2012 6:05 AM (in response to rexpost)But does the Minnetonka FCP plugin do all the stuff the DTS one does, and does it also include the all-important streamplayer?
The MAS version literally does everything - BD (primary & secondary), DVD, DTS-CD & digital delivery in all variants including DTS-HD MAS, DTS-HD High Resolution, DTS-ES (discrete & matrixed), DTS9624, DTS Core original. All the core audio variants are much improved over any other encoder out there - I have 4 in all, and in order of greatest to least they run like this:
1 - DTS-HD MAS. Audibly better than any of the 3 following, and comes complete with a full set of Stream Tools for editing an encoded fileset.
2 - DTS Pro Series, which in it's turn is better than the 2 following
3 - Nuendo DTS Encoder - sadly obsolete & no longer supported although t here is a flawed UniCode version for N5 that cannot manage DTS-CD export (you get white noise) but it doeas a good job of DTS-DVD encoding to core audio only, no extensions
4 - Minnetonka Audio DTS-DVD encoder - the oldest of the lot, and it sounds like it too.
The DTS version comes in 2 flavours - MAS & SAS, although the SAS does not do Master Audio.
See http://www.dts.com/professionals/audio-software/dts-hd-master-audio-suite/overview.aspx for full details.
Finally, given how Encore only supports passthrough mode, you cannot over-estimatethe importance of the StreamPlayer as this allows you to proof the encoded file before wasting expensive blank discs - and it allows you to do this with a quicktime video file as well. It also decodes any DTS stream back to PCM.........

4. Re: Encore CS 6 audio formats supported question
rexpost Apr 26, 2012 11:11 AM (in response to Neil Wilkes)Neil, it does do the embedded backward compatible core in the DTSHD-MA encoding.
also includes a playback decoder.
the caveat is that you have to have compressor 3.

5. Re: Encore CS 6 audio formats supported question
Neil Wilkes Apr 26, 2012 11:51 AM (in response to rexpost)Good news on the core support - how deep?
Does it do secondary audio, DTS-DVD and all the MAS variants like DTS-HD HR?
Also, a playback decoder is a different animal altogether - the DTS-HD StreamPlayer will take a file or a list of files & decode back to PCM files - this is in addition to playback decoding.
Sounds good, but tied to FCP so no good for me.
Good luck with it - seems a bargain.
