NewsFeed

Hi,

I have a news feed that I currently do up in asp. The backend is an Ms-Access database which is updated from a webform, I would like to replicate the same functionality of the the current page in Flex. I want to know the steps involved.

I know this is possible with a label field and a linkbutton, but I want to know how I can extract content out of the access database file ( in what format) and how to implement it in Flex ?

You'll need to keep the ASP on the backend. Use HttpService class to hit the server and get the data in XML format from the database. Any database.

XML is the default format and Flex has excellent support for XML thru E4X. You might decide any other format (JSON, CSV, plain text...)

Hi,

I found out this piece of code in the help manual. Now does a .NET service return the same info. as asp code ?, cuz my intial new feed is simple asp.

Hi,

I have this code here for the sample news feed gallery, but I don't understand why I get this error....

<mx:Application xmlns:mx=" http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute" width="533" height="272">
<mx:Script>

import mx.core.ClassFactory
public function startup():void
{
mydg.itemRenderer=new ClassFactory();
}

</mx:Script>
<mx:XMLList xmlns="" id="mynews">
<one>
<mdesc>This is my first link</mdesc>

</one>

<two>
<mdesc>This is my second link</mdesc>

</two>
<three>
<mdesc>This is my third link</mdesc>

</three>
</mx:XMLList>
<mx:Panel x="10" y="10" width="513" height="252" layout="absolute">
<mx:DataGrid x="10" y="10" width="473" dataProvider="{mynews}" initialize="startup();" id="mydg">
<mx:columns>
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Link Text" dataField="mdesc"/>
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Link" dataField="link"/>
</mx:columns>
</mx:DataGrid>
</mx:Panel>
</mx:Application>

Should I be using the ClassFactory here ?, I tried to copy out the help file but get stuck in the classfactory declaration. What applies in help does not apply for me....
