My system is Win7 Ultimate64 (all updates), 6gig RAM, quad core processor, 500gig HD, Nvidia GeForce GT220 (with current drivers) . PE8.1 latest build, latest QT version.
The program has always been iffy, freezing up. This week I couldn't get it to load at all. Welcome screen comes up, select new project. Sits....So I uninstalled and reinstalled. Now I get a Visual C++ runtime error r6025 pure virtual function call. Found a forum that said to uninstall and run clmgr to remove corrupted files. Did that, still get the error message. The program runs as long as I don't hit OK on the error message (which kills PE immediately). Any other suggestions? Thanks all!
My recommendation would be to upgrade to version 10.
Version 8 was designed long before Windows 7 and it's not designed to run in a 64-bit environment. It also was, in the opinion of many, one of the clunkiest of any versions of Premiere Elements. (Though it was stabilized with an update -- so be sure to go to the Help menu and select Check for Update.)
On the other hand, there's no reason it shouldn't at least run on Windows 7, assuming your system is well tuned. That means that you've not only got the automatic updates but that you've manually gone to Windows Update and downloaded even the non-critical updates and that you've got the latest version of Quicktime from Apple. You should also run Windows Disk Cleanup and the defragmenter -- or run this free tune-up utility that does most of those things as a Deep Care tune-up with a single click.
Though I still say the best, most satisfying solution would be to upgrade to 64-bit version 10.
If you have Win7 64bit PRO or higher, try Microsoft's Virtual XP
This is only ONE example of using Virtual XP http://forums.adobe.com/thread/702693
