Adobe Application Manager Mac Fails To Launch

    nsoltz Community Member

      System: MacOS 10.7.3

      MacPro 8-core (2008)

      16gb RAM

      CS5.5

      CS6 (beta)

Adobe Application Manager would not launch on this machine. I am on the CS6 beta team and have both CS5;5 and CS6 beta co-existing on 2 machines. No issue with the other machine.

AAM wil not launch and then needs a force quit. If I select Update from any CS5.5 app, AAM seems to launch but then hangs. Downloaded new installation of AAM. Double-clicked installer, but it refused to install. Just sat and did nothing. Manual download of the InDesign 7.5.3 update released 5/2/2012. Launching updater brought up error message: "An instance of AAM is in use. Quit all instances of AAM".

On the phone over 2 hours with one Adobe rep who was pretty useless and ultimately just suggested manually trashing all CS6 files since uninstaller is also dependent upon AAM. I did not like this but did it. He also wanted to do a manual uninstall of CS5.5 and that's where I drew the line.

Second rep called me back. She suggested creating a new user. Created new user and AAM worked perfectly well. Returned to my main User and the apps had indeed updated. However, AAM would neither launch nor install under my main user.

So it is obviously a user issue.

I believe that the User profile which I am using on this Mac is logged in as Root. Don't know whether that has any effect.

But now somewhere between an Adobe issue and a MacOS issue.

She suggested as a solution just switching identities when I want to update. Not a great solution. Also have no idea how that is going to impact installation of CS6 when it is released (and I'm under NDA so I'm not talking).

      Help, anyone.

      Thanks!
