Mac or PC?
Any way you could crop a small part of an image with some text in it that behaves this way, upload it to a web server, and put a link it here for others to download? I'll be happy to see if I can reproduce the problem, and I'm sure Adobe would like to see a copy of that file if it blows up Photoshop.
I suppose it's possible that you have a bad font on your system that's causing all these problems. I have never had a problem opening an older design with fonts in it myself; it always behaves as you expect.
As Noel said, weed out your fonts. 99% of the times a crappy font causes these issues.
Thanks for the response.
It won't even allow me to crop the document.
I've uploaded the the file to my server.
I have many files that are like this so need to figure out the problem.
Mylenium, re crappy fonts.
Could you point me in the direction of how do to this? Thanks.
thanks for taking a look. yes the file will open and is editable in PS 6 (trial) but not 5.1 which is what I very recently purchased.
Still don't have a solution for this problem. How can PS6 have the fonts but a brand new version of PS5.1 not?
Seems to be okay to me in Photoshop CS5 as well...
I suggest you try resetting your Photoshop CS5 preferences to defaults, which involves pressing and holding Control - Shift - Alt immediately upon cold-starting Photoshop. You have to be very quick, but if you're successful it will prompt you to confirm the deletion of your current preferences.
