RoboHelp server not returning any search results

I am using RoboHelp Server 9 with RoboHelp 11, using WebHelp Pro. My table of contents and index are working fine, but my search pane is not returning any results. It just keeps coming back with "Sorry, we were unable to find a good answer to your question". I've republished several times, and rebooted the RoboHelp server.

How do I troubleshoot this issue? I'm not familiar with how the search indexing works.

The help page you are looking for can be found at here.

By clicking on "here" you will eventuall be forwarded to the correct home page. I've searched through the server installation for this text and it can be found in a few places:

onRequestNewWnd.htm

win_def_redirect.asp

win_ie_iframe.asp

win_ns_iframe.asp

Not quite sure what any of that means so I'm hoping someone here can help me.

Kind Regards,

Erik

Any way to link link between merged projects on RH Server?

Hi. Me again.

Is there any way to maintain links between pages of different merged projects in RH Server?

To clarify, consider the crude sample presentation of a projects merged in RH Server. Say that the author(s) of the projects have an agreement that project names (eg, "Second project output") and the first topic ("Welcome") will have static names. Is there a way to, for example, create a link in the Welcome page of the First project output which opens the Welcome page of the Second project output? If so, please suggest the correct syntax.

Note: I found that right click on a navigation item, copy the link, then paste the link the browser address line, then the project that contains the link opens up outside the context of the merged environment. Only the project's own navigation is shown.

Thanks in advance.

-Kurt

SQL Server Express causing log in difficulties....

I've discovered that my issues of logging in to RHS Config Manager (admin/admin, but then nothing happens when I click Sign-In) returns when I select SQL Server Express. This despite the fact that the Config Mgr's Test Connection function shows success (see graphic below). Any ideas what might be going on?

BTW, is there any source which shows screen shots of EXACTLY how SQL Server Express, Tomcat, and RH Server needs to be set up? I'm having trouble adding users to a group other than the RobAdmin. Please let me know what/if I'm doing wrong. My procedure:

1) Access the Users panel:

2) Click the upper Add to add new group writers:

3) Click OK.
If RH Server's database goes down, does RH Server go down also?

I've a couple RH Server questions:

Supposing RH Server's database fails, or at least it's connection to the database fails. What would be the consequences. That is, would RH Server crash and not serve up anything. Or, would it simply be that reports are no longer accessible, etc.

Has anyone used RH Server (installed on a Win 7 system) connected to a SQL Server Express instance (installed on another Win 7 system to spread CPU load).

My IT Manager is very leery of the free database option (for performance/reliability reasons), but there's no way we're going to spend almost 20K$ on SQL Server or Oracle DB.
Any comments on speed and robustness of RH Server running on Windows 7 and using SQL Server Express?

Can anyone comment on their experience using RH Server on Windows 7 and using SQL Server Express? That is, is it stable and fast enough for delivering Web Help Pro documentation to support occasional viewer browses. (We would have approx 250 customers who would occasionally access the HTML docs that support our software.)

Our company is not keen on spending $s on Windows Server and an MS or Oracle database.

Thanks in advance.

-Kurt

Upgraded my RH10 WebHelp Proj project (released with our 2.0 application) to start editing for release with 3.0 application next June .

The upgrade did not uninstall RoboHelp 10.

I work from within Visual Studio 2010 Professional. (I know that this is not a Source Control thread, but my issues are intertwined here.)

I create WebHelp Pro (even though we are not yet publishing to RH Server, although we're working on it!).

I check the output into Release folders in Souce Control, and the build picks up the files for installation with our application.

Questions

If I need to update the 2.0 application Help, does anyone know whether I can still use RH10 to update that project? (I've posed the question to an Adobe consultant, but have not yet heard back.)

If I can't use RH10 to update the 2.0 application Help (and have to open the 2.0 project in RH11 and, therefore, upgrade it), are there new things in RH11 that could affect the WebHelp Pro output and, therefore, affect the use of the WebHelp Pro HTM files by the application? (Our release engineer believes that, for version control purposes, I must make changes to the 2.0 project in the same RH Client used to develop it.)

Thanks for any help.

Carol Levine

AIR Worldwide

We also have documentation for premium products. We would like to have customers only access the documentation for the premium products (one or more) they’ve purchased. Can RH Server enforce these access rights, and can access rights be granted via API to an external authorization system? The PDF on the server is a bit unclear on access rights. I’m not sure whether it’s referring to access rights for RoboHelp authors, or for access rights for end users (those viewing the published material). I’d be primarily interested in the latter.

Thanks!

-Kurt Euler

Which server combination is the best?

Initially when we installed the RoboHelp Server (Version 9), we set it up as what seemed to be the easiest and most relevant: IIS7 pointing to the Tomcat application as described in the installation guide. This made sense since the company mostly uses Microsoft products.

However, I've realized that the integration between IIS and tomcat is less than perfect. For instance, I was never able to get "pretty URLs" working, as attempting to do URL Rewrite fails. This is because they're not "the same server", which I do understand. Yesterday I tried messing around with getting custom 404 pages working because I want to get a notification in some form whenever a page is not found (at the moment, this is generally because we're re-writing our software from scratch and the documentation suffers the same fate, so some pages just haven't been written yet). This doesn't seem to work even if I did follow IIS customerror tutorials to the letter.

So what I'm wondering is... is there a better combination? Since Tomcat is maintained by Apache, would it make more sense to use the Apache web server itself? Or maybe not use an external web server at all and only use Tomcat - after all, this server is 100% dedicated to the documentation, there's nothing else on it at all.

My requirements are as such:

- Must continue serving our existing "static" HTML and PDF documentation

- Must support URL Rewrites (we have plenty of them, redirecting users from non-translated documentation towards the english language, rewriting for "global" stylesheets, etc), especially doing pretty URLs for the documentation (rewriting help.mycompany.com/en/software-name/installing-software.html to help.mycompany.com/robohelp/robo/server/en/projects/software-name/Default.html#installing -software.html , without the user seeing the latter in his Address bar)

- Must support custom error handling. I'll admin I don't know JSP anymore than I know ASPX so I'd prefer if I could use PHP for this, but I can read tutorials... as long as they work for this setup.

- Must run on Windows.

Help, please?

Installed Tomcat7 and verified that Tomcat is installed and running. Set the Java options.

2. Installed Robohelp 9, and pointed to the correct install of Java and Tomcat.

3. Configured Robohelp, using the application, and created a project called 'Design' using the Access/default option for logging.

4. Browsed to http://servername:8080/robohelp/admin and received a 404 Error:

As I'm not very familar with web applications/servers, I'm wondering how I point the application to look at the correct folder. It doesn't seem like Tomcat is looking in the right location for the appplication.

Do I need to setup IIS to make this work?

RoboHelp Server 9 Crashes Periodically

Configuration of RoboHelp Server 9 in Azure/SharePoint environment

Configuring RoboServer 9 for primary/secondary failover redundancy

I am in the process of finalizing the configuration plan and pre-installation documentation for our RoboHelp Server 9 system. We've got 15 seats of RoboHelp 10 and that many content contributors working on four major product lines. The RoboServers (two) will be installed in Windows Azure using Wndows 7 VMs, SQL Server Express (which I believe we will outgrow), and the rest of the software requirements.

I really want us to configure ONCE for TWO servers such that one is the primary or master server and the other is the secondary or "slave" server. The secondary server will only come online if and when the first server fails or does not respond quickly enough; then I expect the second server to come online automatically and quickly.

Does Adobe support this scenario in the software or am I going to be doing some fancy coding/configuration in Windows or (worse still) in my applications that point to the RoboServers to serve help results?

Ideally, content creators would publish once and the new content would automatically mirror to the second server within minutes. I realize I may have do this as some sort of nightly batch job instead. I'm probably off in dreamland by now but I would really like to configure the primary server, tell it about the secondary, redundant server, and then have Adobe automatically duplicate all user-account information and other details to the redundant server without any additional instructions. I suspect this is all pie-in-the-sky and that I'm going to have to hand-manage everything on the two machines separately, though doing so is hardly what I would consider "enterprise class". I'm still an optimist and I'm hoping I can do this handholding without too much pain after the initial configuration push.

Anyone have any experience with such a scenario? The primary software product that we're supporting is considered an enterprise-class VHU (very high uptime) system and I'd really like to have the help system available just as many hours as the product itself.

By the way, I'm sure you've gathered that I'm not a full-time IT person as some of the details are quite hazy to me. I'm a documentation manager and as I proposed this RoboServer as a solution to our publication and user-access-management problems, I'm tasked with developing the implementation planning documents. Our IT folks told me to buy two licenses so they can set up redundant servers without investigating if that was a supported configuration, and now I am trying to figure out how to make it work.

I've reached out to Adobe Technical Support but they escalated my call and I won't get info from them until tomorrow. I learned late last week that we are the first group within RR Donnelley to implement RoboServer and Corporate IT is watching my project closely; if it does well, they will recommend it to other groups publishing using RoboHelp throughout the company. No pressure!

Many thanks,

Julia Ziobro

Documentation Manager, RR Donnelley & Sons

Is anyone using RoboServer 9 on Microsoft Windows Azure?

Paul at the pre-sales support line (800-833-6687) assured me that it would work fine, but I've seen no proof anywhere on the internet... and the Adobe.com searches he recommended don't help either.

Here's the environment:

12 writers publishing using RoboHelp 10

A big development team writing an application that runs on Microsoft SharePoint, hosted on Microsoft Azure

Currently, I'm publishing regular Web Help and packaging it with the software releases, but that means update timing is unpredictable and out of my control. I would like the near-instant updating of help and would like to use the more modern FlashHelp Pro format.

I am also intrigued about the possibility of being able to co-locate username/password-protected help staging areas; that would be a big help to us as so many of our content contributors are not located in our office.

We do want to restrict the primary help content to authenticated users of our software product; this could be done through:

- Windows credentials (OK)

- SharePoint permissions (ideal, since that's how the application itself is managed)

- RoboServer user accounts (unacceptable)

The application is based on SharePoint 2010, Word 2010, and IE9, though it should also work in IE10 (I know that there are some RoboHelp 10 bugs to address for IE10. but my writers have applied these patches).

Any real-world experience, good or bad, would be very much appreciated. I don't want to put my company through a big procurement exercise on the word of one pre-sales support guy without other evidence from folks making it work in the real world. :-)

Thanks,

Julia

Logging in to Server Web Administrator gives "Invalid or expired license"

Hi!

We installed the roboserver on a Windows 2008 R2 Standard server, using the 64-bit version of the software. We used the tomcat version 7. The url http://<servername>:8080/robohelp confirms that the robohelp server has been created, logging in the Server Web Administrator gives the error "Invalid or expired license". The trial license is still 22 days valid. Tried to uninstall-reinstall, but no luck.

How many RoboHelp Server licences?

I'm hoping that someone can clarify for me whether multiple authors can publish to a single installation of RoboHelp Server 9 at the same time using RoboHelp 10? Adobe are telling me that I need 3 server licences to do this, which increases the cost significantly. I was under the impression that a single RoboHelp Server would facilitate a multi-author environment, across multiple Help systems.

Thanks

Jonathan
