RoboHelp 10 - Table Preferred Column Width Issue

I converted a RoboHelp 9 project to RoboHelp 10 and noticed that Column 1 in all tables has a preferred width setting of 93% and it is not allowing me to remove this setting. When I uncheck the Preferred width checkbox and click OK, then go back to the Table Properties>Column tab, the Preferred width checkbox is checked again with a width setting of 93%. The column width is not specified in the HTML, it is set to fit to the contents (<col />). The odd thing is that Column 1 only displays this way in Design view. When previewing and publishing the topic, it displays correctly (fits to contents). This however makes editing content in tables extremely difficult in Design view. Any assistance is appreciated.

Need help with merged projects RH10

I have a project that needs to display the same merged projects from different single source layouts.

The project is Retail Sales. The single source layouts are Call Center and Field. Both single source layouts display the same two merged projects. Some of the topics I publish from each single source layout need to be different, both within the merged projects, and in the main parent project. I control them with conditional build tags.

The Call Center single source layout works. Both the merged projects display correctly. Blocked topics are blocked appropriately. Everything is wonderful, birds are chirping, and honeybees are gathering nectar. There is a rainbow.

However, the Field single source layout does NOT work. NONE of the merged projects display. I haven't even gotten to test the conditional build tags because I can't get the merged projects to work.

I have created new single source layouts to replace the Field multiple times, to no avail. I have checked and double-checked output paths (one goes to Call_Center and one goes to Field), both to my PC and to the publishing server. They both go to a different folder on the same server, so it apparently isn't server-related.

I went through the single source layout dialogs for both parent and child projects screen by screen, taking screen shots and printing them out. I compared them side-by-side, and identified a very few very superficial differences (like "apply the same style sheet to all topics"). I changed these minor things in the "DOESN'T WORK" single source layout, and published, then checked the output before addressing the next minor difference. Nothing changed.

I also have other projects that don't permit me to create merged projects AT ALL. And the programmers can't troubleshoot with me until Friday.

Does anyone have any thoughts what might be the problem? Getting merged projects to work almost seems totally random, and I can't identify why that is.

I have RH11 installed on a new PC, but haven't taken delivery yet. Is this something RH11 might address?

Determine epub version in RoboHelp 11 HTML

I cannot figure out how to make sure Robohelp 11 uses Epub 3 as the default standard for generating epubs. In the Single Source Layouts dock Ebook (Primary Layout) has been set to Epub 3. But when opening a sample job and using Generate, the Epub standard is set to Epub 2.0.1. Why is that and can I change it and make sure it uses epub 3?

javascript exception error

Hi,

I'm using RH11, Webhelp 11.01.235...

I receive a very vague "javascript alert" error when switching between content categories while viewing in Chrome v37.0. Selecting OK to this message clears it and then I can view my docs okay.

I'm also using Zoom search, and frankly, can't remove it from my project due to the number of files to test. But, this error does not occur when clicking through the toolbar (content, index, print)

Anyone else have this issue? I really need to fix it..........

Importing MS word 8 file into RH HTML10

I really don't have the biggest succes doing it - I'm getting this:

Is it an upgrade of RH that's needed, or ?!?!?!?!

Stylesheet not displaying in Project Manager pod

Hi all,

My stylesheet has decided it no longer wants to display within Robohelp. It used to display in Project Files > stylesheets and in Windows Explorer it still does, however in Robohelp, the folder "looks" empty.

I've tried changing between the two Project Manager views and checked the Show/Hide Files dialog box which has stylesheets ticked. I've tried deleting the cpd file.

The previous author had issues with it vanishing on occasion, but it always returned, I think after rebooting, usually. But I tried this too, in conjunction with deleting the cpd and still no luck getting it to show.

I know I can open it with through Windows Explorer in Notepad, and I know I can go into Topic Properties and click the Edit button when I want to open the style editor, but it's much quicker to use the right-click menu

Does anyone have any ideas about coaxing my shy stylesheet back?

Recommended Fix for Broken Merged Index

After moving a set of merged projects and master project in SVN, the merged index is not displaying on any machine but my build machine. From posts in ASA Designer, this is apparently a known bug. A workaround to manually fix the master hhp by removing the path to create a relative after opening the Generate dialog works. A fix is suggested to modify the cpd file in Access. Is this your recommendation, or is there another known fix for the problem? I'm hesitant to start messing with the cpd file.

When converting RoboHelp HTML 9 files to RoboHelp HTML5 11 files, is it transparent and seamless or are there adjustments that need to be made to the output?

We are considering upgrading from RoboHelp HTML 9 to RoboHelp HTML5 11. With all of our output files accessible by our customers, we want to ensure our content is always available to address their questions. When doing an upgrade to RH 11 will opening and outputting the files be seamless or will the files need tweaks to get them ready for publication? How much time would it take to adjust one page, if it's needed?

Any insight/experience you have with this topic to share is most appreciated.

Disappearing screen elements in Responsive HTML 5 output

I recently installed the update to RoboHelp HTML 11, which was supposed to fix a lot of problems with Responsive HTML 5 output issues. However, a new issue has just cropped up out of nowhere and I have no idea why it's happening.

When I generate Responsive HTML 5 output for my help system, the following items are missing from the screen in the browser:

- The vertical separator bar that separates the TOC from the help content window

- All the "hover" buttons (the dark versions of the TOC, Search, Glossary, Home, and Print buttons that appear when you hover over them or when that page is selected)

Also, the Show/Hide button is visible (even though the separator bar is not), but it does not function at all.

The output was generating just fine, with no such problems, until just a couple of days ago. This struck out of nowhere. Does anyone have a clue what is causing this or how to fix it?

RoboHelp HTML 9.0.2.271 crashes when opening .htm files

Hello. I'm using RoboHelp HTML 9.0.2.271. When opening a certain RH project (I have three that I access regularly), the project opens fine, but when I try to open any of the topic files, RH hangs/crashes. I can perform any other tasks in the project (generating, publishing, updating the browse sequence, etc.), but I can't open any .htm files. In trying to fix this problem, I have:

Updated from 9.0 to first 9.0.1 then 9.0.2
Renamed the .cpd file
Imported one of the topics in the crashing project to a project that isn't crashing

Updating and renaming the .cpd file didn't work and importing the topic into a healthy project allowed the topic to open (so the topic doesn't seem corrupt).

RoboHELP HTML version 11 offline activation?

We've been fighting with figuring out the firewall rules to permit installation of RoboHELP HTML 11. I have a valid serial number. The problem is that when I input the serial number and click the Submit button, the button changes to a "spinning circle" for a while, then displays a message that reads,

"Please connect to the Internet and retry. If you choose to conenct later, you will have 30 days to validate your serial number otherwise your software will stop working. If this computer cannot access the Internet, get more details at http://www.adobe.com/go/getactivated using an Internet enabled device."

At that URL, I am prompted to submit a request code and the serial number. My reaction: What is a request code and how do I get one so that I can obtain a response code and complete my installation, SEVEN WEEKS after I got the serial number.

Apparently generating the response code requires that I install a Provisioning tool on my computer. Tried generating a response code by going to the command line and typing the string (adobe_prtk --tool=Type1xception --generate --serial=<serialNumbergoesafterthebracketsdontincludethebrackets>

That didn't work--yes, Adobe techs, have a laugh but REALLY there's no explanation as to how to generate the response code in the installation wizard! I found the command by searching in Adobe's forums other than RoboHELP.
I have a Technical Communication Suite trial DVD, which includes product information that states, "This software will not operate without activation. Broadband Internet connection and registration are required for software activation, validation of subscriptions, and access to online services." Phone activation is not available."

I would appreciate an answer as to how I can complete this installation and actually use RoboHELP 11, seven weeks after I started trying to install this product. Thank you.

RoboHelp 9 - link to PDF

I'm trying to create a link to a PDF that I have added to a baggage file in RoboHelp 9. I drag and drop the baggage file into my help topic, but when I generate the help file (WebHelp) the link doesn't work. It doesn't seem to be related to security settings on my computer in IE11, since I tried it out on other computers and it doesn't work there either.

I'd really appreciate some help in figuring out what I'm doing wrong, since I'd like to link to several PDFs in my help project and open them in a new window.

Clearing Project Cache - RH9

The help says the General tab includes an option to clear project cache before opening a project. I don't see it on the General tab under Project Settings. Please help me find the option.

All images broken in all CHMs

Hi,

What would cause all images in all CHMs in all projects to suddenly break? All the images in any CHM on my computer are broken, and they were fine last week. They're also broken for my colleagues who view the files on their computers. I'm using RH 10 with Windows 7 Enterprise, and nothing has changed on my computer that I know of (although the network could have pushed something to it).

PDF not generating completely. Malformed topics?

I've recently had an issue where my PDF generates and is cut off about 1/3 of the way through. The html is still generating without a problem.

Some errors I'm getting are:

Warning: The Word Document became corrupt when attempting to append following malformed topics:

This is the first error I get and the first page it lists is also the first that is not appearing in the PDF.

Som other unique ones are:

Warning: The Word Document became corrupt when attempting to append a malformed topic: 'Meters_Spectrum.htm'

Missing topic '!SSL!\Printed_Documentation\!doc_tmp_folder_2\'.

Failed to process 'Meter Options'...

Fatal Error: Word Document got corrupt. Abort building 'Options'.

Failed to build 'Options'...

I've tried the Style Mapping trick. Linking Images. And generating individual documents. All with no luck. I could go back to a backed up version that was working and try again and hope it doesn't happen again. The only thing I did today different than any other was add a style to the documents CSS and change a lot of image properties (just added screen tips and margins). No other idea what I could have done to cause this...

If anyone could help me I'd really appreciate it.

RoboHelp10 freezes when open or create a project. I have been working around this, but can no longer do that.

I need to rename one topic within a project and cannot do that because of it freezing.

I uninstalled and re-installed RoboHelp 10 this morning and it didn't make any difference.

I'm using RoboHelp HTML on a Windows 7 OS.

I merged a hand full of child projects in Robohelp 8 HTML using the method developed by Peter Grainge. When I open generated file of any child project in IE11, there is no problem, but when generated file of parent project is opend by IE11, images are rotated as they are seen in mirror, TOC is not shown and content of pages are shifted to right hand side of monitor. Every thing is OK when I open generated file of parent project with Chrome and Firefox. It seems there is some conflicts between IE11 and merging

Hopefully this is an easy issue that someone may be able to help me with. I am working on a WebHelp_Pro project (primary layout) and have created a new skin and modified it to my liking. However it does not appear that in the edit skins menu I can remove things I do not want on the toolbar (i.e. Glossary). It seems that in the Windows properties section that I can choose which items I want and where to position them. So when I get things in the order I want them and generate it does not show the items on the toolbar in the order I would prefer (custom logo, contents, index, search) and I also do not want the additional search box in the upper right. Any insight into what I can do to fix this would be appreciated.

Bookmarks are working in chm, but not in Webhelp output

I have one project that I have output both as a chm and as a webhelp project. One one of the pages, I have some image maps linked to bookmarks on the same page. These work fine in the CHM, but in the Webhelp, when I click on the image map area, nothing happens. Am I missing a setting for Webhelp that makes these links work?

I use Comments in Word to ask my boss questions or remind myself to do something. I sometimes need the same notes after linking the Word document in RoboHelp HTML 11. From what I can tell, the comments don't transfer over, but perhaps I'm wrong?

Heading topic not added to auto-generated TOC

Using RoboHelp HTML 11.

I'm linking a Word document into my project, and having it create the Table of Contents automatically. I have it create new pages at Word's Heading 1 and Heading 2.

Typically, a section in Word will be like this:

Heading 1

Body

Heading 1.1

Body

Heading 1.2

Body

In the TOC, it will create a book labeled "Heading 1", and pages for Heading 1.1 and Heading 1.2. There's no page for Heading 1 or the body text that goes there.

I can manually add the Heading 1 page to the book, but I suspect that I don't need to. Is there some setting that I'm using wrong? Or a trick or workaround?

Can't pin RoboHelp to the Windows 7 taskbar (solution)

I finally figured out how to pin RoboHelp 8 to the taskbar in Windows 7!

Create a shortcut to RoboHelp on the desktop.
Rename the shortcut RH. The shortcut name must not contain the word "help".
Drag the shortcut to the taskbar.

This took a long time to figure out. I finally found the answer here:

How to Prevent Conditional Topics from Appearing in Search

I have a RoboHelp project to which I have applied conditional build tags. The purpose is to hide these topics from the generated output. Everything works fine except when I do a search on terms related to the hidden topics, the search results list the topic names. By the way, I still have the topics listed in my Table of Contents with the conditional build tags applied there too. How can I prevent conditional topics from appearing in Search? After syncing a linked Word document, what must I redo?

Using RoboHelp HTML 11. I'm going to try making a project by linking a Word document instead of importing. Before I do, I want to be clear: what changes in the project will be lost, and must be re-done, each time I update the link to the Word document?

For instance, will I have to reapply the Master Page to all the topics? How about the TOC?

Is there a way to stretch a background image rather than repeating it?

I have a one celled table with a background image. It's really just a gradient strip (gradient going from top to bottom - ending in fade to white). I want the image to continue all the way across the page. If I set it to repeat via X, somehow you can see where the repeat begins... so I was wondering if there's a way to just stretch the image from left to right to force it to fit exactly to 98% of the window no matter how big the window is.

Start page URL does not show when context sensitive help call is made

Im using RoboHelp 11 to generate context-sensitive WebHelp files. In the Generate settings, I've selected the output folder and start page as index.htm.

I've successfully generated the files and given the SSL! folder to developers. They are using the Robohelp API.

However when they call a page with a mapping id, the page opens but instead of the navigation pane on the left, Show link is displayed. On clicking the navigation pane is displayed.

On checking the URLs, index.htm is not present in the file.

I've tried manually adding index.htm to all the URLs listed in the whcshdata.js. but then the navigation pane is shown twice. on refresh, it is shown as expected.

Please help

Why won't the PDF open from Webhelp

So... I am using RH10 to generate Webhelp. I am on Windows 7.

That said, I have a very small test project I am building for a presentation today. I have placed a special icon in my help that has an attached PDF file. The purpose is to have the user click the icon to display the PDF (also a very small file). However, I have tried setting it up as a hyperlink and via image map... and set it to open in a "new window". When I rollover the icon with the mouse, it changes to the hand cursor as if it knows it's hyperlinked. But, when I click or double click on the icon nothing happens.

What have I missed? HELP! This is due this afternoon for a meeting!

Rh Variable displays variable name, not value

In master page, header, I have inserted the chapter name. When I generate the output, it displays the variable name, PD Chapter Name, not the value of the variable. The code is unaltered from the button selection 'Insert Chapter Name' . Is there another step I'm missing? Thank you!

Robohelp 10 output line spacing for numbered lists is off

I wondered if you have had this situation occur with your output from Robohelp 10.

I created my help system and CSS using Robohelp 10. My CSS contains a numbered list style and an alpha list style, both having line spacing of 3pt before and 3pt after. Looks great in Robohelp WYSIWYG, but the generated output (in IE and Chrome) looks bad. The numbered list line has way too much line spacing after (the next style is a non-numbered list style) and the alpha list has way too little line spacing.

I tried playing around with changing the line spacing but it does not change the output!

Thought I'd reach out to see if you have experienced this issue and the most expedient way to resolve.

Here is an example of HTML tags in Robohelp:

Will Webhelp CSH still map correctly when help is used offline

Using RH10:

Before I got here, all help was done as CHM... and most of our users go offline during the day when using the software because of the locations they are in (no internet connections available). Our application is not a web based app because of this. We would like to start using a webhelp output however so that we have better working files, etc. The developer states that the webhelp "package" of files can be downloaded onto a laptop with the software. However, he is concerned that when this occurs, because there is no network to automatically map the topics to the correct screens, that once offline, the map IDs will no longer work to bring up the right page of help as a CSH.

Can anyone speak to this? Is this a problem? If so, any idea how to get around this?

Image in master page header

RoboHelp 11

I'm trying to use our company logo and another image (as background) that should repeat across the header. The logo should display on the left with the 'background' image tiled across the page. I'm assuming the logo should 'sit' on top.

I've looked at ww3 and found this example

Set a background-image for the <body> element:

body {
background-image: url('paper.gif');
background-color: #cccccc;
}

Also there's the background-repeat property. Based on the descriptions, it sounds like this is an approach that should work.

But I don't know how or where to use the information. Do I need to edit the master page header placeholder or the project CSS or both? Or is there a better/preferred way?

Is there a way to set up a Map ID on an image within a dropdown hotspot?

I have several drop-down hotspots on a page/topic. Because these can occur quite far down the page, I want to be able to add an image that the reader can click on to return to the top of the topic. I have a bookmark at the top of the page setup to link the map ID to. However, while I can create a map ID rectangle around the image, I can't find any way to link it to the bookmark at the top of the page.

So I am wondering if you can use an image map within a DD hotspot at all.

Is it possible to set up an image map this way? If so, HOW?

Creating Image Captions: Best Practice?

Hello-

I'm currently using RoboHelp to create an HTML-based internal user guide for a software product. This guide has many images and figures in it and each will need an accompanying caption. Each caption must appear centered directly beneath the accompanying image.

I need some guidance on two issues, please:

1. What is the best practice for inserting a caption along with an image? I currently cannot find any tool or which enables a RoboHelp user to insert an image into a document and designate a caption to be displayed with that image.

2. Each image will be uniquely numbered (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.). It may be necessary, as the document is drafted and redrafted, to remove images from and insert other images into the document. How can the numbering of images be set up so that the removal or addition of an image will automatically reset the numbering of all affected images accordingly? I would very much like to avoid resetting dozens of image number-designations manually.

Problem Viewing Multimedia in CHM

It seems as though viewing multimedia in a CHM file generated with RH9 or RH10 is broken. I have a project that was originally created with RH7 or RH8. It's been upgraded to RH9. Today, I noticed that an SWF file embedded in a help topic is not working in the compiled CHM. It's works in the Viewer in the project. Others seem to be having similar issues. I haven't seen any definitive answers posted. What does Adobe have to say?

I have a lot of image files that need to move them to a ScreenShot folder in the Project Manger, but I can't select multiple files with the Shift key for example and need to move them one by one? Is there an easier way?

Any issues to be aware of when upgrading a project from RH8 to RH11?

We currently have a project using RH8 and RoboSource Control3.1 and will be upgrading to RH11. The output is WebHelp. Are there any issues or concerns we should be on the look out for?

Force page break when printing

I'm using RoboHelp 9 HTML. I have a set of documents that will be printed from the help system on a pretty routine basis. I need to force a page break as a designated point in each of these docs but only when printing. Is there some HTML code I can insert (or another solution) to make this happen? Thanks.

Robohelp 11 continues to crash using FrameMaker 11 files

I am trying to import Frame files into a Robohelp project. I have tried to imports each document separately, to import the book file, and even to import the pdf. Robohelp crashes every time. The program worked fine when I last used it 4 months ago, so now I am stuck!!

Where do I start to troubleshoot? Our IT people do not know this program and cannot help.

Issues with Robo Help adding extra code

I am currently using RoboHelp 10 version 10.0.1.292

I am trying to write the code and then input into Robo help for future editing. I am new to HTML and RoboHelp as well.

The issue is when I add the code like so below it comes out with an added <p> </p> in robohelp code and causes the Iframe to not work for one of the drop down menus. Is it possible to disable this feature adding this in or a way to get the Iframe to still work? In screen shot is what the problem is the info highlighted after the Account portion.

Using a "Web Application Help" project, WebHelp>Generate ... gives me a blank blinking index.htm

Working in RoboHelp 8, I have a number of pictures of buttons within paragraphs. In this case, I have this combination in a custom-sized pop-up. I am having a hard time keeping the close or open parentheses on the same line as the picture.

This is a picture of the text as written.

bottom of the Tree view are <span style="font-weight: bold;">Expand All</span>

I've been fiddling with the custom size to make it stay together - but am wondering if there is anything I can do when writing to make sure the parentheses stays with the picture within.

Links within a table are changed to an absolute path when I cut and paste

Hi,

We have help topics that contain tables and each cell in the table contains a hyperlink to another topic within the project. When I need to rearrange these links, I cut and paste them. When I cut and paste one of them, everything works as I would expect.

Unfortunately, if I select multiple links/cells at the same time and perform a cut and paste, the links are automatically changed. They go from being a relative path to an absolute path.

For example, this: ../MainMenu/Topic.htm#bookmark

Gets changed to this: C:/Projects/2015/IM/MainMenu/Topic.htm#bookmark

I'm using RoboHelp 9 with Windows 7.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Em-based CSS looks horrible in RoboHelp editor

I'm creating a help document to be used on desktop and mobile devices in Responsive HTML-5 format and I reworked my CSS to use em variables for sizing and spacing. I have two questions:

Why does this look horribly distorted in the WYSIWYG editor? It looks nothing like the basic preview window or the browser previews. Headings are massive, spacing is either non-existent or exaggerated, and it basically gives me no notion of what it will look like when published.
Is there even a reason to use em in RoboHelp? I checked some of my previously-published help (meant for Desktop only, but published in Responsive HTML-5) on an iPad and a Galaxy, and it looked fine in both cases. The only issue was a table set to a specific width jutting out of the screen, but the content in it was still visible. Maybe RoboHelp handles the resizing such that using em or % has no advantage over px?

Viewing Camtasia SWF output in Robohelp 10

Is it possible to view SWF videos created using Camtasia in Robohelp 10?

I imported the video files into my Baggage folder but the video is still not viewable, even after publishing the project. I assume this has something to do with the additional files Camtasia generates?

I've seen earlier posts indicating that Camtasia created flash videos didn't work in previous versions of Robohelp. I'm hoping this isn't the case anymore. If anyone knows of a way to make it work, I'd appreciate the help.

RoboHelp HTML version 9 - How can I prevent a conditional build tag from being removed from a snippet text when I edit the snippet?

I have added a Conditional build tag to a snippet text in a certain topic. However, when I edited the snippet the Conditional build tag was removed from that topic. Luckily I noticed it was missing, but know I wonder: is there anything I can do to prevent that from happening again?
