Help on Final Step for Drag and Drop Exercise

Does anyone know the best way to create a test item where the learner has to place a check mark in the correct cells and hit submit to succeed.
I was using a drag and drop but I am lost on step three.

I am using the check marks as drag sources, square shapes located in all cells will the correct cell/box assigned as the correct drop target.

The issue is when I get to step three, how do I allow the user to drag ANY checkmark (drag target) to the correct cell/box (drop target). When I get to step 3, I have to assign each individual checkmark to ONE specific cell/box and I want the learner to be able to drag any checkmark, as long as it is dropped in a designated drop target.

If there is another way I should approach this test item instead of drag and drop, I am open to any suggestions.

Hi all,

My client wants to have the Table of Contents lock/unlock for slides that were visited by the learner. So they shouldn't be able to skip ahead using the TOC, but they can click on any previous slide they've already visited and be able to jump to it. I know that with CP8, there is a new System Variable that makes this easier to accomplish than before, but how are you setting it up? On slide exit? And how are you writing up the action?

Difference between a Success Action and an Advanced Action

I've isolated an instance in which using an On Success to Assign a variable in response to clicking a click zone produces a different (and unusable) effect than if the On Success triggers a dedicated Advanced Action whose sole code is to make the exact same Assignment. I'd like to understand why I cannot rely on the Assign action and if possible get a fix or workaround. Here's my situation.

On a slide I have two click zones: one for the correct area to click and the other encompassing the entire screen to trap for wrong clicks. I want to keep track of the fact that the user made a wrong click and so I want to assign a -1 value to a variable so that I can know whether to assign points to the user or not when they finally do click the right area. In other words, I do NOT want to move on to the next slide until they have clicked the correct area. Yet when I set a On Success to Assign, Captivate moves on to the next slide. Contrast this to what happens if the same click zone has an On Success of Advanced Action that has one line which is that same Assign to a variable of -1. In this case, the assignment also happens properly, but Captivate stays on the slide the way I want. What's going on here and what can I do about it? The way things are now, I have had to make nearly 100 individual Advanced Actions that do nothing but make a variable assignment, something that would be much easier if I could just use the Assign action.

I'm using Captivate 7.0.1 for Windows and can't upgrade to 8 for the foreseeable future.

Where can I find out how to link my Captivate quizzes to a database?

I need to link my Captivate courses to a database in order to track individual students' participation and completion of activities. I am less interested in capturing grades than simply recording whether they took the formative quizzes and read through to the end of the presentations.

Any help greatly appreciated. A fair amount of searching has not lead me to an answer on the web and my Captivate 7 'e-Learning Uncovered' book has absolutely zero information on this.

Captivate 7 - HTML5 - Project to External MP4 - Back to Project at Quiz slide

Hi,

I am new to using Captivate and my company has me using Captivate 7. I am tasked with creating a project (blank project) importing a video, and then returning to the Captivate project to take a quiz. The video quality is not good in HTML5 or MP4 when imported into the project. I have alternatively, linked within the slide a button to the HTML5 video, and successfully launched the video with perfect quality. I have created a button within the HTML5 video to go back to the original project. I see an option to go back to the project, but not to the specific slide where the quiz begins. What is the best way to accomplish this?

Send Drag Source to Original Position - no response

I'm getting great answers here, so....

I've created a drag and drop in which student drags three different types of fractions into the correct drop targets.

I've checked 'send drag source to original position but the drag object stays wherever it is put. I would like it to pop right back immediately if dragged to the incorrect drop target.

Is there something else to be done to make the drag source pop right back to its original position immediately if not dropped into the correct drop target?

show button if arriving from specific slide

Greetings!

When teaching a new subject, there is one section in which the student may require remediation from some previous slide.

I would like them to be able to go to that slide and then return to the current slide using a return button, but i only want that button to appear if the student arrived from that other slide.

This is much like the captivate remediation except the student is not arriving from a quiz question.

Any suggestions please?

TOC display and YouTube Question

Hello All,

I am working in Captivate 8, and I am new to using a TOC. Is there a way to make a folder or group name in the TOC clickable so that Captivate jumps to that topic and plays it's slides? I am trying to avoid naming every individual slide, and don't want the TOC to show "Slide 14" "Slide 15" etc.

Also, wondering if it is possible to publish a project to YouTube that retains the TOC's ability to allow the user to navigate?

Publish a Captivate course with HTML5 and Scorm

This is the scenario. We have a Captivate 7 module. One of the slides will have an HTML5 animation on it. The module also has quiz questions. We have used Adobe Captivate 7 App Packager to include the HTML5 animation and publish the course. When we upload the course to our LMS (LearnShare), nothing shows up. If we upload the HTML5 published course without any Scorm settings, it works. But we obviously need the Scorm settings on. Can't figure out how to package this thing to have it include the animation and the Scorm settings and work on the LMS.

Flash buttons with visted state in Captivate 6?

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me think this through. I don't mind creating what I'm looking for, but I'm struggling to even think through the logic of how they might work. Hopefully someone here can help.

A few years back, at a previous job, we had a template for screenshots where the learner could roll over numbered circles or little circles with flags in them that were next to important fields to get pop-up descriptions of those fields. I'm 90% positive the numbered circles were individual flash objects. I know they were not Captivate buttons or images. The had an unvisited state if the learner hadn't touched it, a hover state that appeared only when the learner had the rollover window up for the first time, and then a visited state that appeared as soon as they rolled away and persisted. They could still roll over anything afterward, but it gave them a visual indication of what they had seen and not seen. We would often set it so that all had to be rolled over before the learner could continue in the course. This was using Captivate 4.

I'm trying to do something now where I would like to get that same functionality where the button changes on rollover and then again on rolloff, but cannot figure out the logic of it. Nor do I have an old sample to deconstruct. Anyone have thoughts on how this might have been accomplished?

Is there any way to increase the contrast of the slider in the Table of Contents? It becomes very hard to see as you slide down a presentation. This has been asked before, a few years back. Has a solution been provided?

I designed an interactive script using Captivate 7. It works like a branching scenario, and is currently in use by about 350 phone operators, soon to be over 750. Everybody is pretty happy about it, but I am getting complaints - especially form the older people - that the slider in the TOC is very hard to see, and I agree - as you scroll down the TOC entries, the slider becomes lighter and lighter in color. Is there any way to tweak it so that I can increase contrast, or recolor it in a darker tone? I know this was discussed a couple of years ago, but I don't know if the issue was addressed by Adobe, or if anyone has come up with a solution.

Captivate : Training mode no text input boxes

While recording the application in the automatic Training mode, I have no text input boxes in the result, even if the preferences are correctly assigned. The text appears in demo mode. Before, I had no problem with it, but since I changed my PC, I can't see how can I solve this problem.

Je produis des modules Elearning sur l’outil Adobe Captivate 7. Mais dernièrement je constate un souci récurrent lors de la publication des modules.

Le module commence à ramer après 10 minutes de visualisation, et cela n’est pas dû à la mauvaise connexion du réseau. En gros ce problème est constaté sur plusieurs modules, et cela ne permet pas suivre correctement les modules.

Pour vous donner plus de détails :

Non seulement les captures de l’écran rament, mais également toute la fenêtre (boutons, les tableaux de matière, et les surbrillances réagissent avec un retard de plusieurs secondes).
Les sous-titres apparaissent avec un retard ;
Finalement, le lecteur de voix off ne prononce pas souvent les débuts de phrases.

Why are last slide visited and previous slide number are the same?

Maybe I am being dull here but.

Here's want I want to do.

If I click the Next button ( Go to next slide) I want to go to the next slide in the project.

If I click the back/previous button I want to go to the previous slide in the slide order.

However If I arrived at a slide from a slide other that the previous slide in the order I want to go back to that slide when I click the back/previous button, whether it is a lower slide number or a higher slide number.

My Solution:

Advanced Actions.

If cpInfoLastVisitedSlide <> cpInfoPrevSlide

Then

Got to Last Visited Slide

Else

Go to Previous Slide

That seems pretty straight forward to me but. These two variables report the same number no mater what, so the true condition is always processed.

So what is the difference between them and what variables should I use to get this to work?

Hi all,

I'll admit, I'm knee deep in work and I can't spare the time research this and I apologize if this question has been asked and answered.

I have a project that has a TOC, a pop up menu AND navigation buttons...and the client still wants the user to be able to type in a slide number to navigate to that slide. And upon thinking about it for a while, I just told the client I couldn't see how that could be done (frankly, three ways to get around seems overly adequate) but nevertheless, it has come up again. I figured if there's any way it could be done, someone here would know and could give me some insight on how.

Text entry box submit not working

Hi there,

I'm using Using Cap 7 and am having problems with an activity. Here's what I'm trying to achieve:

Users type an answer to a question in a text entry box and submit it using a button
I do not want this activity scored (no marks eg percentage or other grade) but I do want a record to show that's its been done
The answer is to be saved and accessible to each learner via Moodle (the SCORM package is being published on Moodle)
All learner's answers to the question to be accessible to the teacher via a Moodle report
And, ideally, the learner's answer to be emailed to them when the submit button is clicked.

I realise there are several things to configure to make this happen but, to start with, I know I have something set up incorrectly on Cap7 because Reporting is greyed out for the text entry box (see image). I've also attached images of my my Quiz reporting and settings in case that's the issue. In its current published state, the submit button I have associated with the text box does nothing - it's inactive on Moodle. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. I am lost! C

no resize for swf

Hi,

When I used to use captivate 5.5 I edited the publish html so that the swf file had no border and resized with the window like it was stand alone. I did this by simply removing the height and width values in the swfObject.

In captivate 7 this was no longer possible as the publish templates use js to display the swf file but i just lived with it.

I am now on captivate 8 and want to do this again for accessibility reasons.

Any suggestions please?

Quiz Results Analyzer - Maximum Records can Display?

Object positioning bug in Captivate 8.0.1

When positioning an object using percentages for top, left, height and width, the numbers often get automatically multiplied by 10 or 100.

The result is that objects become huge, often far outside the screen.

This is the case in Responsive Projects - I didn't check the situation in other types of projects.

Obviously this is a bug, introduced with the latest patch (8.0.1).

Is it possible to request a patch for this patch?

Javascript to print slide AND hide playbar

Hi all,

I know I can use the simple javascript window.print() to print a slide, but when I do that it also prints the print button and playbar. Is there a way - I'm sure there is, I just don't know how.... to hide the playbar, hide the print button, print the page and then show the playbar or a continue button again? I want my users to be able to print just the slide content.

Oh, running CP7 64 but on a windows 8 machine.

Do Text Entry Boxes have to be done in a particular order

I am trying to use multiple text entry boxes on one slide. Each TEB has a conditional action tied to it.

The CA is designed so that user could do the TEBs in any order, and when the last one is completed, the CA moves to the next slide.

This approach works for click boxes, but does not work consistently for TEBs.

Captivate 6 not marking completions using IE 8

About 90% of the employees completing a course that was created in Captivate 6 are not showing a completion status on the LMS using IE 8. I understand that this is a provlem with IE 9 but I did not find any other documentation regarding IE 8. Has anyone else experiences this issue and if so, did you find a resolution other than adding a button to indicate the course completion? There is no quiz with these courses.

Text Captions incorrectly positioned on tablets in published Responsive Project

Using a Responsive Project (CP 8.1), Text Captions come out nicely on Primary, Tablet and Mobile platforms in Preview Mode..

Once the project is published, Text Captions are displayed correctly on Primary and Mobile platforms, but on tablets many Text Captions are positioned incorrectly.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Is there a known solution?

Can shared actions reset with drag and drop?

I'm currently creating an interactive module where the learner will need to drag and drop grey squares to the correct area on the screen. If you see my picture below, I have a possible 20 grey squares needing to be dragged and dropped for each terminal that's on the lower right of the screen capture. I've created a shared action that shows different wires moving for each of the 20 grey squares moving from the upper image to the lower right image of the screen. This is painstakingly time consuming, but worth the effect. The problem I have stems from the drag and drop's "reset" button. The "reset" button helps set the grey squares that are my drag sources to their original positions, but it does not reset the shared actions that correspond to the movement of each grey square. Is there any way I can reset not only the drag sources, but also the shared actions associated with the drag sources? Any help is truly appreciated.

Partial Scoring on Matching Quiz Slide in Captivate 8

I tried searching for the answer to this question before posting but I only located an answer for Captivate 5.5. Is it possible to do partial scoring for a matching quiz slide in Captivate 8. If not, does someone know a workaround? It would also be helpful to me to know which questions slides allow partial scoring. I am posting my trainings on an intranet site and not an LMS so I don't have the capability to do partial scoring from the LMS.

Progressive Download Video

Hi everyone,

So I have done endless searching and research and I am running out of ideas. I will describe my current state and what I am looking to do -

I am building training modules that are being published out across the nation for delivery. I am using Captivate 6 and I am pulling together different forms of media such as graphics, audio, video and animation. I currently have a Private Video Management System through AT&T & QUMU players. The issue that I am constantly running into is certain skips, pauses and buffering times within my module. I am insert video via Progressive Download. My Video Management System has a transcode system that takes the videos I have and transcodes them into the following settings -

Dimension - 720-405

Bitrate - 644

FPS - 30

Audio Bitrate - 48

Audio Type - Mono

So these are settings that our management program transcodes the videos down to. Now heres the thing, if I open this video directly through HTML the video loads fine and no skips or pauses, when I insert this video into a Captivate module the video skips, pauses and cuts off content involved. So after doing research I had seen that someone recommended to cut the videos down to the following quality.

Dimensions - 720-405

Bitrate - 250

FPS - 15

Audio Bitrate - 48

Audio Type - Mono

So at first it seemed like we were going to notice a massive difference in video playing. The downside is we did not see that large of a difference. What I am looking for is work around or something that I might possibly be able to do to display these videos flawless. Is there anyway to stick a preloader on progressive download videos in captivate? is there a way that captivate can notice the buffering time, or loading for a progressive download so it does not cut off content or pause? Hand cursor over 'Next' rollover button and text caption error message

I have a template I must adhere to. It has Back and Next buttons with a hover state.

I need a text entry box on screen to simulate the user entering text in a form field.

If the Next button is clicked and the text field is empty or incomplete I want an error message to popup. If the text field is completed correctly the Next button will go to next slide.

Unfortunately I need BOTH the hover state and hand cursor on the next button.

Ive tried a few scenarios and below is an example of one:

- add text entry and delete text entry button

- add text caption called errorMessage

- create variable called nextButtonIncrement

- create a conditional action called checkTextCaption to run on screen entry

- increment Next button by 1 when clicked

- action checks if button has a literal of 1 or more, and if text caption has correct literal (i.e. text).

- if true move to next slide

- if false show error message

The problem with the above is the error message appears on slide entry. I only want it to appear when the user clicks Next AND the text entry caption does not have MESSAGE in it. Im currently trying an AND OR conditional action, but am wondering if anyone knows if I am wasting my time or not.

How can I get the Hide TOC action to work as part of a Conditional Action?

GOAL: When a user takes the Quiz and fails, I would like for them to be able to Return to Course and review materials prior to retaking the Quiz. As noted in other discussions, I set up standard and conditional advanced actions to accomplish this:

Quiz Results Slide Property executes standard action "ResultsSlideVisitedAction" which assigns a variable (AssessmentVisited) to 1, setting a flag that the results slide has been visited.

If a user clicks Retake Quiz button, instead of going to a "knowledge check", a graded quiz question early in the course with zero points, it goes to the first true quiz question. The Knowledge Check slide executes the "ExcludeKCAction", a conditional one, that looks to see if the Results slide has been visited, meaning the quiz taken. If so, it Jumps to the 1st question slide of the quiz.

I changed my Fail Quiz message to instruct the user to either click the Retake button (which works fine) or navigate using the TOC to review topics and then retake the quiz. The problem with this is if a user uses the TOC and happens to go to the Knowledge Check slide with the conditional action, they are sent directly to the Quiz.
So, I took a different tact and decided to instruct the user to use a "Return to Course" button to review the course and then retake the quiz. Since you can't add buttons to the Results slide, I set up an invisible button to reset the AssessmentVisited variable to 0 so when the get to the Knowledge Check, they are not sent to the quiz. I did this by adding the image of a button, then layering an invisible rectangular shape on top of the button image. This allowed me to add advanced actions to the invisible shape. This worked!
The only final thing I would like to do is Hide the TOC as well, so there is no chance of the user going back without resetting the variable. I have tried to add the Hide TOC action, but it doesn't seem to work. Is this possible? I have tried moving the Hide TOC as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd actions and sill doesn't work. Here is a screen shot of the conditional action that executes when a user clicks my Return to Course button:

Captivate 8 - Import Closed Captioning vs. Copy Paste ability?

We develop online learning modules and import video and audio into a project then publish the files as swf and html files to load into our media asset warehouse which then loads into our own LMS.

The only way we have been able to figure out how to do closed captioning is to get the transcripts of the audio and video files that our transcriptionists create, then copy and paste them into the closed captioning windows on the appropriate audio or video attached at the slide level at the correct in and out.

Our old system allowed us to have time codes generated of the transcripts, then import the xml file into the system which linked all the time codes in the xml file to the time codes in our own player.

We want to accomplish a more seamless process by importing a time text file or xml file with time codes established outside of captivate and have them imported into captivate and "talk" to captivate time codes to create the closed captioning lines on each audio and video element.

We looked into exporting captions, but we would need to already know how many lines of closed captioning is needed on each audio clip as well as the ID that Captivate creates for each in order to add them to the exported Word doc. then import back in.

Looking to contact Captivate for this as well or to see if we can hire someone to create javascript each page would call up at certain time codes to display the closed captioning.

Any ideas or advice on 3rd party html5 compatible options, new features being developed, or alternative solutions?

I have 7 lessons that make up one course. Each of this lessons has a post assessment that determines if the user can go on to the next lesson. I need to collect these lesson scores separately, and then be able to get a course score. Right now I am using user variables to pass the scores through the course to the last lesson, here they are displayed on a results slide. My issue is that I cannot seem to get these scores to aggregate. I wrote a javascript function, which runs fine when I test it alone in a single lesson. But when I aggregate the lessons into one course the javascript no longer runs. I would eventually like to get these individual scores into a database as well, but for now fixing this is a priority. Here is a copy of my javascript. It is just taking the uservariables that hold points scored and points possible and adding them together. Pretty simple, but I'm not sure why it wont run when the project is aggregated. Any help would be appreciated.

In a test responsive project, simple button and click box actions don't seem to work. A regular project works fine. Is there some preference that must be set?

I am currently using capitvate 7 and running windows 8. When I create a html5 project and then create an app using the app packager, the IOS app comes out great, however although the Android content loads up, there is no sound. Is there a setting I need to change?

Is there any way I can use other mouse pointers than the ones in the properties pane for the mouse pointer?

I know I can browse and select an .ico file but I want to change the mouse pointer into an image and I need to use a larger image than a standard icon.

Hi, I have one text entry with some user validation, I have a group that´s above that TEV and I show or hide depending on the button click, on both situations, hide or show, the text entry that´s below the group keep´s blinking, I tried some shots without any luck.

• Created two text entry box. (dont work)

• Created a clickbox. (dont work);

• Changed the tabulation order. (dont work);

If I have an object on the top of the TEB, it should be hided until I hide the object that´s a fact, right?

Hi. I'm running Captivate 7.0.1.237 on a PC with IE 9 as my default browser.

Something has changed about Text Entry Boxes (TEBs) and the way they validate. It used to be that I would enter several user validation options and, if the user didn't enter one of the correct entries in the TEB my failure message would come up telling them what to enter.

That isn't happening anymore, instead, when I have the TEB set to go to the next slide, the project advances to the next slide whether they've input a correct answer or not. I can type any kind of junk into a TEB and I get no failure caption.

At this point, I have experimented with changing my TEBs to the following settings, and have added a click box set with the shortcut set to tab (because that is how the application I am teaching moves from field to field,) but the problem is still occurring. Earlier in the project I had the short cuts for my TEBs set to tab, but that is when I noticed the problem:

I've only put my TEB close to the top of my timeline because I was having problems with click boxes not displaying failure messages when they were farther down in the timeline. So they are now on top.

moduleReadyEvent not firing when project(cp8) is published to flash + scorm

I want to use the CPAPI_SLIDEENTER event in an external JavaScript.

The reason is that the authors on the project then don't have to deal with custom variables etc.

I have succeeded in doing want I want. Everything is ok when I preview, both as Html5 and Flash.

When I publish as:

HTML5 + Scorm it is OK
Flash + Scorm (both 1.2 or 2004) not working
Flash without Scorm it is OK

Its seems that the moduleReadyEvent never fires when published as Flash + Scorm

The problem can be recreated by adding this code (taken from this excellent article Common JS interface) to the standard.js file:

Captivate 8 Disable/Enable a button

Greetings, I am new to captivate 8, I would like to have forced navigation on a module I am working on, a requirement of my client. I cannot figure out how to have a next button showing in a disabled state that enables at the end of the timeline. Do any of you have any ideas for this?

Hi guys

is there any way where I can select photoshop as my default image editor? Every time I launch captivate I have to select edit with... and once I select photoshop it will remain for that session, but clears at the end of each session.

Seems minor but a it is little irritating.

Issue with widgetfactory in CP8

I have created AS3 widgets int he past for CP5.5 but now that I have CP8 a simple static widget is not functioning as it should. I have a function that sets the width of a progress bar based on the current slide – it seems the main issue is that nothing runs within the override protected function enterRuntime() function. Is there a different way I should be achieving this with CP8?

The widget code is below, any insight would be very helpful.

Link a web page to different slides from one published output

We have an eLearning course that is just over 2 hours long. Now that it is finalized, there has been a decision to divide the training up into four separate modules. We have a landing web page (just a hard coded html page) that our learners access all of our courses from.

My initial thoughts were to simply publish to four separate files, then link our html page to the respective "multiscreen.html" file in the published output.

I was hoping there might be another (easier way)...to publish a single Captivate file, then use html to link to specific sections within this file. Should I just stick to my original idea of publishing each section of the training as separate files and doing it that way, or is there an easier way?

I'm using Captivate 8 for a presentation. at the beginning we want to ask our audience their main concern and write it in our demo, this work pretty well but ayr the end we want to use those "audience concern" and rate it in a Likert quiz without having to retype them...

The variable fonction is not greyed but Captivate dont want to insert it...

Is there any way to "tweak" the position of Closed Captions on a Captivate 8 slide?

Hi,

I have a PowerPoint template from a client that has a style line above the bottom of the PP slides used to create Captivate 8 training modules.

When I position the Navigation Bar on the CAP 8 Skin Editor on the bottom of my slide and use a single line for CCs they end up sitting right on the navigation bar and cutting of the bottom of characters like p, g, y.

If I opt for 2 lines in the CC attributes the CC text is placed in the middle of the clients style line.

Client is firm about the position of the style line as it is integral to corporate standard.

I have plenty of space between the top of the navigation bar and the style line if there is a means of "tweaking" Cap 8's default position for the CCs.

Any experience with this??
