      <title>Using Business Catalyst for Newsletters - Several Questions</title>

      <description>&lt;!-- [DocumentBodyStart:63e374d1-190f-487a-9ae8-ddf9e4f12d69] --&gt;&lt;div class="jive-rendered-content"&gt;&lt;p&gt;Hello everyone - I hope the format of this forum question is okay.&amp;nbsp; I have designed our company website with Muse and we host it with Business Catalyst (webBasics+).&amp;nbsp; We like it a lot and are looking to possibly upgrade it to the next package (webMarketing) simply because of the potential for newsletters (as well as all of the other benefits like blogging and the helpful modules).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;My company currently uses Constant Contact for our quarterly newsletters and holiday emails and we send to about 2800 people.&amp;nbsp; It seems obvious to me that we should ditch Constant Contact as we pay more than $50.00/month and I think it is very limiting as far as being creative goes.&amp;nbsp; It just makes sense that I should use Bc because I already use it...and the 5,000 newsletters is only $6.00 more.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;My questions are:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;Are there a lot of templates to choose from?&amp;nbsp; 100's? 1,000's?&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Is it easy to create my own template?&amp;nbsp; Do I need Dreamweaver (Only have Creative Suite and Muse)?&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Is it easy to transfer an email list I have? We have software called ACT and I am a little unsure how this works but I assume there is a certain file type we can export and just upload into Bc.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Are there options to have links to social media (facebook, twitter, etc.) in the newsletters?&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Are the newsletters limited in size?&amp;nbsp; I think Constant Contact limited the width of an email to 600 pixels - occasionally we had text in a graphic we made in Photoshop - so things go a little fuzzy.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Add-on question from #5 Are there ways to layer graphics on top of one another in the newsletters aside from flattening it in Photoshop?&amp;nbsp; This was the most limiting factor in Constant Contact.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I appreciate any help with answering these questions.       <title>Migrating a test site to an existing BC site</title>

I am creating a web app with student clubs able to submit and edit their page, create events etc etc. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;One required element has me stumped : each club needs a 'members list' and the ability to easily create reports which show the members of a certain club (via the Admin is fine). Not something I have ever had to create before, even after God knows how many years with BC, but the CRM reports don't look like they will generate a report based on 'relationships'; which would have been a reasonably logical solution (The "Company" being a club, with the "Club Members" being "Contact" relationships).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Any suggestions from the BC crowd? I have my lateral thinking cap on, but haven't been able to come up with anything that would be simple and logical for the client to use. I know I could extend the DB, but that would mean adding a new 'checkbox' in a custom field (for example, "Member of (club):") every time a new club is created so that a contact could be 'associated with it'. The release date works fine for all other search fields apart from postcode, yet if I go into each individual web app item and press the button update, for some weird reason when i do a postcode search again the web app item shows in the search results!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;My point is I cannot go into 50,000+ plus web app items and press the button "update". I should be able to do a search criteria based on just postcode and the web app item display?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Can someone help/point me in the right direction. But now my client (a travel agency) asked if he could use the rest of BC too. Because he really wants to automate his business more. So we watched the BC video&amp;#8217;s about CRM and eCommerce and were very excited about the possibilities.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px; font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;It all seems very promising but we got stuck on, what we thought, one simple question; does it work for him too? Or is BC not that flexible?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px; font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;Acknowledging our &amp;lsquo;expertise&amp;#8217; on this matter we asked somebody who has made several databases himself to dive into this.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;Basically he told us that BC is nice for building websites but the CRM and eCommerce are really too inflexible. And it can&amp;#8217;t be adjusted to what my client needs. So he says it has to be custom build database, because you can add extra fields to webforms, but these extra fields can not be connected to real fields in the database. And he says there is no way that you can combine info from separate database parts and that&amp;#8217;s exactly what we need.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px; font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;You may have guessed it, that doesn&amp;#8217;t really clarify things for us and after seeing all the other websites running on the CRM and eCommerce side of BC we think that what we want BC to do isn&amp;#8217;t that big a deal. So I thought I would just drop our list in the forum and hope that someone who has worked with BC can answer these questions&amp;hellip; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px; font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;What we think it needs to do:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&amp;#8226; Booking forms differ per event (trip) and this has to go in the database, connected to the client.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&amp;#8226; Automated confirmation after payment.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&amp;#8226; Automated notification if payment is due.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&amp;#8226; Listing of clients data (from booking form and the extra fields) including payment status.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px; font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;What we would like it to do:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&amp;#8226; Clients can go on multiple trips and have a login to change settings etc.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&amp;#8226; Newsletters can be automatically send and monitoring/overview of succes rate etc.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px; font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;And it would be especially great if:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&amp;#8226; Email exchange between the agency and the clients can be &amp;lsquo;joined&amp;#8217; in the CRM.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&amp;#8226; Visitors of the site can see (per trip) how many people (and their age) are going&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px; font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;So, basically my questions about Business Catalyst are these:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;"&gt;&amp;#8226; Can the Events module be changed to add fields like &amp;#8220;Passport number&amp;rdquo;, &amp;#8220;Travel date&amp;rdquo;, &amp;#8220;Occupation&amp;rdquo;, etc? Customers can belong to several preferences so simply adding them to a particular campaign list won't work.&amp;nbsp; Extending this, the client would like to create a report that lists all customers in this particular segment, and then add them to a marketing list.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;There seems to be a couple of workarounds eg CASES: set up a form for the user to fill in : then you can do a customer/cases type report;or ORDERS: : so the "order" becomes a list of preferred property types/attributes. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;These both seem a little cumbersome though. Has anyone done this or can suggest a better way. It seems a reasonable request and sounds like it shouldn't too hard, but I just keep running into a brick wall on working out the best way to do this. Thanks in advance. I have a ticket filed with BC...no Chat seems to be available. That being the case I went ahead and registered, and paid for one. Dont ask me why I did it, but I goofed and built my partner site on the wrong account. I built it on the account that I had paid for. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I was able to move all files, web-aps, blog posts ect over to the correct partner account. I was even able to move and activate the domain on my partner account. The site is live and working just fine, but when I moved the domain it forced me to delete all of the email accounts I had created there. No big deal right? I had everyone download all emails, and then I went ahead and did it. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The issue is now it will not let me add the email addresses onto my partner site! I am getting the following error: &lt;span style="color: #c8c8c8; font-family: Myriad-Pro, myriad-pro-1, myriad-pro-2, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: #1f1f1f;"&gt;Account details for this user can only be updated via the site where it was first created.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;My entire agency's emails are now down, and I have several large clients that often email us on the weekends. Yay! Great and easy function.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Here's the thing though, the customer also enters their Cell Phone as a mandatory field in our webform, however the record is not entered into the customer contact field and only their email address is added.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Can anyone help?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;!-- [DocumentBodyEnd:cc78317b-e8a4-4c86-ac49-49578a7b9e3b] --&gt;</description>

If a logged in user spends more than a minute on a lesson page I'd like to record that lesson as 'completed'. Ideally I'd like to automatically add the lesson number to a custom field in their crm. So when they viewed a lesson page, the custom field content would be loaded into the page, if they spend more than a minute on the page the lesson number is added to the list and saved to the custom field in their crm.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This is easy to do as cookies but cookies get wiped, I want something more permanent. Is it possible to auto update a crm field. The only way I can see is to add a hidden form and use js to submit it but there must be a better way.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="min-height: 8pt; padding: 0px;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Any suggestions?
