Using Business Catalyst for Newsletters - Several Questions

Hello everyone - I hope the format of this forum question is okay. I have designed our company website with Muse and we host it with Business Catalyst (webBasics+). We like it a lot and are looking to possibly upgrade it to the next package (webMarketing) simply because of the potential for newsletters (as well as all of the other benefits like blogging and the helpful modules).

My company currently uses Constant Contact for our quarterly newsletters and holiday emails and we send to about 2800 people. It seems obvious to me that we should ditch Constant Contact as we pay more than $50.00/month and I think it is very limiting as far as being creative goes. It just makes sense that I should use Bc because I already use it...and the 5,000 newsletters is only $6.00 more.

My questions are:

Are there a lot of templates to choose from? 100's? 1,000's?
Is it easy to create my own template? Do I need Dreamweaver (Only have Creative Suite and Muse)?
Is it easy to transfer an email list I have? We have software called ACT and I am a little unsure how this works but I assume there is a certain file type we can export and just upload into Bc.
Are there options to have links to social media (facebook, twitter, etc.) in the newsletters?
Are the newsletters limited in size? I think Constant Contact limited the width of an email to 600 pixels - occasionally we had text in a graphic we made in Photoshop - so things go a little fuzzy.
Add-on question from #5 Are there ways to layer graphics on top of one another in the newsletters aside from flattening it in Photoshop? This was the most limiting factor in Constant Contact.

I appreciate any help with answering these questions. Again, I think it is pretty obvious and maybe you have some things to tell me that I am completely clueless about. I basically have to make the pitch to the powers that be and I want to make sure I have a lot of the ends covered.

Integrating CRM fields into a media document

Can anyone direct me to information on integrating specific CRM fields into a media document? I have a marketing subscription website and am trying to implement a simple 'web to print' function for specific marketing materials for my subscribers. I've created the additional fields in the CRM database for photos, etc; however am trying to figure out the best approach for the end result which is inserting their personalized information into the form for printing.

I have access to Adobe CC so if there is a recommended software to create the marketing template that will interface with the CRM database in BC??

Is there a way to notify the 'assigned to' user upon status change?

could use some help/advice on "work flow" (not sure if this is the workflows or just a work flow we would do manually).

We want to be able to notify a user/admin, not a customer, about a change in the status of an order record.

EG:

order was completed a week ago
customer calls with problem
we look up order
we change status (or set the workflow) of order to "problem" (this would then kick an email to the person "assigned to") so they can work the problem. I tried creating a workflow with a step (to send an email), but setting the workflow in the order manually does not kick it off. <--is this possible or is there a different solution?

Online Booking Schedule System

Hi guys,

I've been trying to figure out if there's a way in creating an online booking system for appointments. What I want is to set certain time slots of the week, for customers to book in a time for meeting. For Example, Monday 9am-10am , 11am - 12pm, 3pm - 4pm...etc and when a customer books the time 9am - 10am, then that time slot will not longer be available to book.

I've been reading a few discussion threads, but they don't seem to have been answered. Any help would be great. Thanks

I've got a CRM Database on my site and need to have a completely separate database to collect information... what are my options? IFrame?

So I've been providing some high level support for this website and they are wanting to make a change to their site so that they can collect information from visitors. This is information separate from their customers.

I built a form for it and it looked / worked well until I realized it was adding all the customers into the same database as the CRM users and creating issues there. So basically I need an embedded form that will collect data and allow me (and other internal people) to access it without it appending to the CRM database.

I can elaborate more if needed. Any help is appreciated!

error pages for "CampaignProcess.aspx?ListID="

I am unable to locate where you can template an error page that is coming through CampaignProcess.aspx.

Example: (clicking on the mail submit without a valid email or without an entry) - appearance of red text on blank white page that reads: ERROR: Email address could not be added to list.

All of my system pages appear to be templated correctly and my default template is also templated, but they don't appear to be handling these error pages. Any suggestions?

How do these new customers get dumped into my database?

I have noticed for some time that my CRM database is being populated with customers that I haven't entered or imported. They populate only two fields, a surname that appears to be poor concatenation of first and last name, and an email address.

This happened once before when I had one form that did not include Captcha code, which I have since corrected.

I have no idea why this is happening now, but there is one circumstance worth reporting: About half of the latest batch of mystery customers are featured in Dashboard under the Live Feed report, as having posted to forum topic Generic Cephalexin Fda. The problem with that is, there is no forum topic Generic Cephalexin Fda. We're a computer consulting firm, not a pharmaceutical.

Any ideas on what's happening, and how I can get it to stop?

Who is using Business Catalyst for a trade publication? I'm curious to know if this system can handle specific tasks that involve categories and easily manage print content, that often goes into an archive situation, and web content, which is specific to just the website with social aspects.

Migrating a test site to an existing BC site

I am trying to migrate a site creating as a trial using a BC GURUS template to an existing e-commerce site hosted by BC.

Is there any easy way to do this without having to recreate modules, web forms, etc - basically all the work I did with the trial? I'd love to just ditch the existing site and go with the new one, but I would be forfeiting customer orders, cases, and pretty much all reports, etc, right?

In the future I am definitely creating a test directory within the existing site to avoid this mess, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Workaround Suggestions : CRM Report with 'Relationships'?

Hi there,

Working on a demo for a Uni Union; one of the features required is a "Clubs" setup. I am creating a web app with student clubs able to submit and edit their page, create events etc etc.

One required element has me stumped : each club needs a 'members list' and the ability to easily create reports which show the members of a certain club (via the Admin is fine). Not something I have ever had to create before, even after God knows how many years with BC, but the CRM reports don't look like they will generate a report based on 'relationships'; which would have been a reasonably logical solution (The "Company" being a club, with the "Club Members" being "Contact" relationships).

Any suggestions from the BC crowd? I have my lateral thinking cap on, but haven't been able to come up with anything that would be simple and logical for the client to use. I know I could extend the DB, but that would mean adding a new 'checkbox' in a custom field (for example, "Member of (club):") every time a new club is created so that a contact could be 'associated with it'. May be my only option but I am trying to come up with something a little less clunky.

duplicate emails

I built a website in Adobe Muse and manage it through Business Catalyst. Everything works fine, but when a customer makes a purchase, inquiry, etc. they get receive 2 automated response that exactly the same and I get the same as well. Every email that comes in or out of BC is duplicated.

Any thoughts on what could fix this.

One-to-Many Web App + Events database possible?

I am building an supplier events calendar with customer booking. I want the suppliers to be able to add their own event (easy) I also want the supplier to be able to add multiple dates/times for each event.

For example: Fly Fishing Training - every Thursday night at 7:30pm in April.

we have a website where customers in a secure area order multiple times per month.

we need to send out a statement at the end of the month to these customers that have ordered. The info in the statement should be like invoice number + invoice date + invoice amount in a summary statement for the month.

How do I place a unique numeric tag to autoresponder emails?

I want to place a numeric tag that is individual to each autoresponder email for everyone that signs up to one of my mailing lists.

What I am doing is sending them a coupon that needs to have a unique numeric identifier.

I don't care what type of numeric tag it is, or its length.

When I try to set up the autoresponder it allows me to post tags such as the person's name or email.

is there a way to do this through API integration? if so how?

We'd like to produce a customer report that shows the customer's email address and name. We would like to produce this from the workflow notifications via our webform.

How do we do this? I'm not referring to a mailing list.

There is no 'opt in' for any particular subscription, just the capture of name, number, email etc....

widen the product "description" column when viewing customer orders

We have a text box for customers to enter personalization details for items they purchase. But when I view the customer's order in Business Catalyst, the "description" field is not wide enough for me to see their entire text message. In the screen shot below, for example, the customer has actually added additional text for some of the items purchased, but it's not showing up for me. (The only reason I know this is because the email notification I receive when a customer places an order shows the text in full, although it's in a layout that's not easy to read. And I need the full order details in Business Catalyst so I can efficiently manage orders all at once.)

Hi,

I really need registered customer to be able to aisgn themselves to additional secure zone. In my particular case this second secure zone is a Trial zone, so when it expires customer have to have the first secure zone present so he's not out of zones he belongs to.

I have set a form up that asigns customer to the trial zone, but this creates addidional user and not aisgns additional secure zone to existing customer.

Is there a way to asign customer to two zones automatically (without touching admin console)? With JS maybe. I know its possible to specify the secure zone expiration date with JS when form is submitted so maybe theres a way to asign customer to two zones or better to make a form that acts inside existing secure zone and grants customer with additional secure zone.

To specify zone expiry date you use id="ExpiryDate" in form input field. Maybe there is input ID that asigns additional secure zone

to customer? Like SecureZone or similar...

Maybe theres a way to asign additional secure zones for existing customer through account details update page?

Please let me know.

release date in a web app

I need help from someone on web apps!

I imported information into a web app. I have tried to put a search from in a web page which is fine, the issue is when i try and do a search for "postcode" only. The release date works fine for all other search fields apart from postcode, yet if I go into each individual web app item and press the button update, for some weird reason when i do a postcode search again the web app item shows in the search results!

My point is I cannot go into 50,000+ plus web app items and press the button "update". I should be able to do a search criteria based on just postcode and the web app item display?

Can someone help/point me in the right direction. I don't think this has anything to do with the google mapping or my data, I think some bug exists in the criteria for postcode aligned with release dates..

Hi Guys.

Has anyone been able to update a crm form and web app item using one submit button?

I currently have a sign up form which copies the users crm data to the next page and submits a web app item using the same information. The issue with this is that when they then go to update the web app item or the crm, only one of the two will be updated.

I have tried using ajax which works fine for the web app item, using "&JSON=1", but this does not work for when updating the CRM form.

Hoping someone has a solution, or guidance in the right direction!

Is BC really THAT inflexible?

Hi,

I am a designer who loves working with Muse and the CMS side of Business Catalyst. But now my client (a travel agency) asked if he could use the rest of BC too. Because he really wants to automate his business more. So we watched the BC video’s about CRM and eCommerce and were very excited about the possibilities.

It all seems very promising but we got stuck on, what we thought, one simple question; does it work for him too? Or is BC not that flexible?

Acknowledging our ‘expertise’ on this matter we asked somebody who has made several databases himself to dive into this.

Basically he told us that BC is nice for building websites but the CRM and eCommerce are really too inflexible. And it can’t be adjusted to what my client needs. So he says it has to be custom build database, because you can add extra fields to webforms, but these extra fields can not be connected to real fields in the database. And he says there is no way that you can combine info from separate database parts and that’s exactly what we need.

You may have guessed it, that doesn’t really clarify things for us and after seeing all the other websites running on the CRM and eCommerce side of BC we think that what we want BC to do isn’t that big a deal. So I thought I would just drop our list in the forum and hope that someone who has worked with BC can answer these questions…

What we think it needs to do:

• Booking forms differ per event (trip) and this has to go in the database, connected to the client.

• Automated confirmation after payment.

• Automated notification if payment is due.

• Listing of clients data (from booking form and the extra fields) including payment status.

What we would like it to do:

• Clients can go on multiple trips and have a login to change settings etc.

• Newsletters can be automatically send and monitoring/overview of succes rate etc.

And it would be especially great if:

• Email exchange between the agency and the clients can be ‘joined’ in the CRM.

• Visitors of the site can see (per trip) how many people (and their age) are going

So, basically my questions about Business Catalyst are these:

• Can the Events module be changed to add fields like “Passport number”, “Travel date”, “Occupation”, etc? Because my client is in the travel business and he needs extra information.

• Is it possible to change the CRM by adding fields that connect to the Events Module and the Client information?

I have a couple of BC sites that are using the Forum. Clients are having problems registering for the forum because they have previoulsy interacted with the site in some way (newsletter sub or contact form) and their email is already stored in the CRM.

When they try to register for the forum the following message appears:

ERROR: The email address you entered is already registered to another user. Please choose another.

Is there some way around this?

Ecommerce question

I would like to make an ecommerce site where an owner for a product, could log in and make their own product on my site.

So each "product owner" could change their own products but not the other ones.

Then i've would simple display all the owners products.

How could this be done in BC, could you make a user role that only allowed you to make a product for yourself?

Disable Customer Account

Hey guys is there a way to make a customer's account "Inactive" from logging onto the shopping cart and making purchase?

What I've done is the following:

1. CRM --> Customers --> Customer Type: --> Change to "Inactive"

However customers are still able to place their orders after having made the change? Am I missing something? Thanks

Update secure zone expiry dates with an import

We are trying to update Secure Zone Expiry dates for customers via an import but the problem is when we create a report for Users and Secure Zones there is no field for 'Username' and from what I understand if we leave this blank when importing then the information will be deleted.

HOW TO display a simple line of text if the user isn't logged in and not display it if they are?!?!?

Hello,

I have a client with an online job application form. When people apply for a job, an email with the attachment is sent to users at the company. Unfortunately, the user's email went down for a week and now there is a backlog of 30 or 40 workflow notifications in the system.

I'm wondering if there is a way to forward cases with their attached files in bulk? (i.e. CRM --> Cases)

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if it is possible in any way. I have this customer who has two different bc site but wanted to merge their CRM records. I was thinking of migrating one site to the other and do necessary implementations to keep the look of the migrated site intact as well as consolidate CRM records but there might be some issues with it and some data loss. If there is another way without migrating the one site over, that would be greatly appreciated!

if user tries to select the day first it closes and they have to start again (often repeating mistake of selecting day first). The datepicker is also not the best option for smartphone users. How can I change the input method and still get the dob in the crm?

Segmenting customers

My client (real estate) wants to be able to set up a number of criteria to segment users in the CRM. ie he wants to be able to look at a customer and see that he is interested in: Apartments for sale in Region 1 priced between $400-$500K. Customers can belong to several preferences so simply adding them to a particular campaign list won't work. Extending this, the client would like to create a report that lists all customers in this particular segment, and then add them to a marketing list.

There seems to be a couple of workarounds eg CASES: set up a form for the user to fill in : then you can do a customer/cases type report;or ORDERS: : so the "order" becomes a list of preferred property types/attributes.

These both seem a little cumbersome though. Has anyone done this or can suggest a better way. It seems a reasonable request and sounds like it shouldn't too hard, but I just keep running into a brick wall on working out the best way to do this. Thanks in advance. DC

How to report on CRM Form Manager Customer form (Back - End)

Can anyone please help in pointing me to the direction in running a report on custom CRM forms? I'm still very new to BC and I've been looking around but haven't been able to find out how. I've been looking under REPORTS --> CUSTOM REPORTS but not able to find the fields required.

Would this be because the form is in the Back - End? If so how can this be retrieved and viewed?

I need to contact someone at adobe in order to change my MX records.

I used www.godaddy.com in order to buy my domain and I also use there email package.

When I tried the recommended way by adobe to host my site it worked but it caused me not to receive emails.

I had contacted godaddy who where very helpful and they have told me that I needed contact adobe and get them to change my mx records as they change automatically when I try to upload my site.

I have tried calling adobe but it is impossible to get anybody on the phone.

Any recommendations for me to be able to contact someone in order to change the mx records????

I really really hope someone can help! I have a ticket filed with BC...no Chat seems to be available. I am freaking out!

When I originally became a BC partner I knew I could not make my partner site a real .com domain website until I had a paying account under me. That being the case I went ahead and registered, and paid for one. Dont ask me why I did it, but I goofed and built my partner site on the wrong account. I built it on the account that I had paid for.

I was able to move all files, web-aps, blog posts ect over to the correct partner account. I was even able to move and activate the domain on my partner account. The site is live and working just fine, but when I moved the domain it forced me to delete all of the email accounts I had created there. No big deal right? I had everyone download all emails, and then I went ahead and did it.

The issue is now it will not let me add the email addresses onto my partner site! I am getting the following error: Account details for this user can only be updated via the site where it was first created.

My entire agency's emails are now down, and I have several large clients that often email us on the weekends. I hate feeling helpless to be able to do anything but wait on adobe to get around to my ticket! We are all very panicked over here. Does anyone have a good work around?

Email Campaigns will not display images on gmail accounts sent through business catalyst

Hi there,

Everytime I send an email campaign through business catalyst the images will not show up on a gmail account.

I have reset all the settings on my gmail account so that I can recieve emails with images but the campaign will

still not display. Is there some sort of setting on business catalyst that needs to be changed so that subscribers

I need to figure out a way to determine if a customer is a wholesale customer when checking out.

However, on the checkout page, order_registration-US.html, there is nothing in the Data toolbox.

When a user is logged in, is there a good way to show, hide, or disable content? For example, when a user is logged in, is it possible to show a replacement of content on other page, such as: instead of the log in form, they see a button to go to the secure page (not shown to those who aren't logged in) or replace out with a content holder specific to them? Or... if they are already logged in, they don't see the button for having to log in? Any suggestions for this would be appreciated.

I am looking for simple one code/plugin/HTML solution which I can copy paste in the website for the translation. I want to put google translator with flags on my website in the top right hand side. I want to translate my website in 9 languages and want to put 9 country flags on the top right hand side, which translate languages on click event on "same page" , I want the translation must take place at the same page after clicking on the flag. How-ever I successfully integrated google translate with dropdown option but want to integrate google flag translations on my website.

Please let me know what can be done here.

Webform Customer Contact field only adds email

Hi,

Our customers enter their information via a webform which automatically adds them to our CRM and creates a new case. Yay! Great and easy function.

Here's the thing though, the customer also enters their Cell Phone as a mandatory field in our webform, however the record is not entered into the customer contact field and only their email address is added.

Can anyone help?

I have a site with a set of lessons. If a logged in user spends more than a minute on a lesson page I'd like to record that lesson as 'completed'. Ideally I'd like to automatically add the lesson number to a custom field in their crm. So when they viewed a lesson page, the custom field content would be loaded into the page, if they spend more than a minute on the page the lesson number is added to the list and saved to the custom field in their crm.

This is easy to do as cookies but cookies get wiped, I want something more permanent. Is it possible to auto update a crm field. The only way I can see is to add a hidden form and use js to submit it but there must be a better way.

Any suggestions? Or is there a better way to record member progress?

Set Customer Type on Comment Post

We need a way of flagging customers created from comment posts since they usually are not actually customers, especially if no email is given. Is there a way of setting the customer type field of the Customer record from the comment form post?
