Using Business Catalyst for Newsletters - Several Questions

Hello everyone - I hope the format of this forum question is okay. I have designed our company website with Muse and we host it with Business Catalyst (webBasics+). We like it a lot and are looking to possibly upgrade it to the next package (webMarketing) simply because of the potential for newsletters (as well as all of the other benefits like blogging and the helpful modules).

My company currently uses Constant Contact for our quarterly newsletters and holiday emails and we send to about 2800 people. It seems obvious to me that we should ditch Constant Contact as we pay more than $50.00/month and I think it is very limiting as far as being creative goes. It just makes sense that I should use Bc because I already use it...and the 5,000 newsletters is only $6.00 more.

My questions are:

Are there a lot of templates to choose from? 100's? 1,000's?
Is it easy to create my own template? Do I need Dreamweaver (Only have Creative Suite and Muse)?
Is it easy to transfer an email list I have? We have software called ACT and I am a little unsure how this works but I assume there is a certain file type we can export and just upload into Bc.
Are there options to have links to social media (facebook, twitter, etc.) in the newsletters?
Are the newsletters limited in size? I think Constant Contact limited the width of an email to 600 pixels - occasionally we had text in a graphic we made in Photoshop - so things go a little fuzzy.
Add-on question from #5 Are there ways to layer graphics on top of one another in the newsletters aside from flattening it in Photoshop? This was the most limiting factor in Constant Contact.

I appreciate any help with answering these questions. Again, I think it is pretty obvious and maybe you have some things to tell me that I am completely clueless about. I basically have to make the pitch to the powers that be and I want to make sure I have a lot of the ends covered.

This only affects my index page - four other pages with identical code and styling (and different subsets of content) appear perfectly.

I've combed through the site both in Dreamweaver and with FTP to delete any remnants of old files. The site's index page went up on Wednesday, displayed perfectly for most of Thursday and Friday, then went haywire over the weekend. Last observation: Lines of code appear in the live version of the index page that don't come from my uploaded files. Check out the difference:

Migrating a test site to an existing BC site

I am trying to migrate a site creating as a trial using a BC GURUS template to an existing e-commerce site hosted by BC.

Is there any easy way to do this without having to recreate modules, web forms, etc - basically all the work I did with the trial? I'd love to just ditch the existing site and go with the new one, but I would be forfeiting customer orders, cases, and pretty much all reports, etc, right?

In the future I am definitely creating a test directory within the existing site to avoid this mess, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't connect to BC site via dreamweaver CC 2014

Suddenly I can't connect to any of my BC sites in Dreamweaver CC 2014

I get the error: "An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to host. The remote host cannot be found."

On the web, I can successfully login to the BC site back end with my credentials at mysite.businesscatalyst.com

I tried the following:

1. Disabled the Firewall and tried logging in through DW. Did not help.

2. Booted into Safe Mode with networking. Did not help.

3. In Dreamweaver Site Manager, Site Setup for MySite, password box is blank. I can enter it manually and click "test" and it connects fine.

4. When I exit site manager and try to connect from the Files tab and the little plug icon, it does not work.

5. It forgets the password and it comes up blank in re-opening the Site Manager.

BC site not found in Dreamweaver, "you have no sites available to import."

When managing sites in an attempt to import BC site into a local Dreamweaver CS6 application, Dreamweaver prompts that "You have no sites available to import."

Is this an issue of merging Business Catalyst account with Creative Cloud account (I'm currently running on the free trial..)

I have already downloaded Extension Manager and added the BC extension.

Please advise.

Hello,

I am working in conjunction with dreamweaver and business catalyst. What I am trying to do is create a custom real estate website for my client. This requires me to build a completely customized search on the homepage. I've created a web app for the real estate listings. On the initial search navigation I'd like to limit some of the input fields available on the user end (I don't want all of the search fields displayed). Is there a way to do this without modifying the code and managing the javascript?

For example:

I have all of these fields available for input- Price, Address 1, 2, zip code, bed, bath, residence, for sale/rent, city, etc.

I'd only like to show these instead of the above listed: price, bed, bath, sale/rent.

Wen i checked out my template today i think this guy who made the screen shot removed the https and put an http on the <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.1/jquery.min.js"></script> tag.

and thats how he took the screenshot whithout the slider displaying the images.

But I tried on everybrowser and nothing loads.

Remove Bullets from Featured Product List - Style a module

I have a list of Featured Products by the Tag/Module: {module_productfeaturelist,Featured Product}.

Everything works great, except I am getting big bullet before each product listed. Obviously I need to add styling "list-style:none" but I can't figure out where I would add that to make it work. I have added the styling to the <td></td> as well as putting the module into a <span></span> and having a class for the span with the styling. Nothing is working.

How would I style a "{module_productfeaturelist,Featured Product}"

I am having many issues with Dreamweaver & BC:

1 - It keeps thinking that I have the trial version, even though I have a license to Creative Cloud and Creative Cloud shows that I have it.

2 - When I try to use the integrated Business Catalyst palette, it logs me out of the admin console for my BC site. ANNOYING.

3 - Most importantly, it doesn't put the files to the server successfully, consistently. I have change my file and re-put the file 5-6 times before it works. VERY FRUSTRATING!

After an hour on the phone with Dreamweaver customer support, the issue is still not resolved.

So, now I ask you all, what code editor are you using in conjunction with Business Catalyst while implementing your Business Catalyst websites?

I need to contact someone at adobe in order to change my MX records.

I used www.godaddy.com in order to buy my domain and I also use there email package.

When I tried the recommended way by adobe to host my site it worked but it caused me not to receive emails.

I had contacted godaddy who where very helpful and they have told me that I needed contact adobe and get them to change my mx records as they change automatically when I try to upload my site.

I have tried calling adobe but it is impossible to get anybody on the phone.

Any recommendations for me to be able to contact someone in order to change the mx records????

Hi everyone,

I am having some issues with a bootstrap module v2 nav menu i made for a website at Home Page

on the store page wen we choose a product and then click the check out button on the form , it redirects to worldsecuresystems.com and it makes the nav menu appear all wierd and unformated.

I am looking for a solution for my website , I am using Business Catalyst as platform to create the website. I am looking for simple one code/plugin/HTML solution which I can copy paste in the website for the translation. I want to put google translator with flags on my website in the top right hand side. I want to translate my website in 9 languages and want to put 9 country flags on the top right hand side, which translate languages on click event on "same page" , I want the translation must take place at the same page after clicking on the flag. How-ever I successfully integrated google translate with dropdown option but want to integrate google flag translations on my website.

Cannot Upload Local Templates to BC

I can put files to each of my other folders on BC, but cannot put files into the Templates folder.

I get the following error when uploading.

Path was: /Templates/home.html

Templates:home.html - error occurred - An FTP error occurred - cannot put home.html. Access denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem. Make sure you have proper authorization on the server and the server is properly configured.

File activity incomplete. 1 file(s) or folder(s) were not completed.

I know i do have permission as i created the site and I can upload the file to the root directory, but can't move it over from there.

I'm using the FTP function from Dreamweaver to manage my content.

System: Mac OSX 9.4

Cannot edit Partner Site

Hi there,

I deleted all the files from my partner site management console, expecting to be able to replace them with a simple site created with Adobe Muse. But when I tried to publish the site from within Muse it was not listed with my other sites, Muse could not find the site, although the URL was recognised as taken. So I stepped into Dreamweaver, using the BC extension I planned to import my partner site from the server. Once again, the site was not listed, and so I cannot edit my Partner Site via Dreamweaver either. I tested another trial site, it was recognised by both Muse and Dreamweaver. The only way to access the site is through SFTP, which means I cannot edit any Business Catalyst driven aspects of the site. Is there some way of resetting at least the template on my partner site so I have a start to work from in the developement tab of my management portal? Am I the only person with this issue? Any help would be appreciated.

Using Dreamweaver - keeping the Page Name?

I recently started using Business Catalyst, and was excited to learn I could use Dreamweaver to update my pages. However, when I upload pages from Dreamweaver I lose the Page Name, and can not find a way to maintain it. It creates a lot of problems for other people editing content on the site, and with the page name module that lists it on each page as a header. Is there a way to use Dreamweaver and maintain the page name?

I want to make a NEW site in Dreamweaver CC and host it on the Business Catalyst platform.But it seems the only way to use dreamweaver in business Catalyst is to import a BC template into Dreamweaver then upload it to BC. I want to create an original site and use the BC platform, is that possible? This seems like it should be simple and automatic, even encouraged. But as of now the only way to create an original site is to use Adobe Muse. Which is weird, seems like Adobe missed this one somewhere...

I am trying to change out the photos on the flash photos on my homepage. I only have the .swf files. Is there an easy way to do this? My web developer wants to charge a ridiculous amount to do this and I would actually rather learn how to do this versus paying someone else. Any help would be appreciated.

I am having issues running the plugin/extension of Business Catalyst on my Dreamweaver CS5, and I dont have the means to upgrade to cs6 yet. Is there a way to still build sites in Dreamweaver CS5 and use BC to import modules and integrate templates without the BC plugin/extension in Dreamweaver?

Hello. I've just noticed I no longer have the option to use Dreamweaver in our Business Catalyst website. We had the website designed for us and now we manage it ie produce Pages, Web Apps, etc.

Also, I can only view it in one format where as I could at one stage change how I viewed the Dashboard. Do I need an upgrade? I haven't spoken to anyone else yet. Thought it might just be me and forgetting how to do it.

I am not getting the login form in the Business Catalyst Extension panel in Dreamweaver CS5.

I have added the extension and restarted Dreamweaver, but the panel still shows two buttons: Get Started ( taking me to download the extension) and Learn More ( taking me to a page that does not exist anymore).

Does anyone know how to make the login form appear so that I can get Business Catalyst integrated with Dreamweaver CS5?

Site Import Issues

I have two paid sites created in my partner portal. Would like to use Dreamweaver CS6 to manage the content for both. When performing a site import and selecting Import BC Site, I am experiencing the following two issues (after authenticating)...

1. Only one of the two sites is in the Select a Site list.

2. After selecting the one site that appears and pressing Import, I get "Error Code #: 113001"

Please advise.

I am currently working on a business catalyst website project and I have a trouble defining different user levels on single registeration form. Here is the detail of what I am looking for.

I have a registeration form on the site and we have two types of users, one is student and the other is professor. My client wants to just keep one form with tick boxes at bottom of the form i.e Create my account as a Student & Create my account as a Professor. So clicking on any one will process the registeration for the selected user level. (If I select Create my account as a Student, the form should register me as a Student or wise versa)

I am not sure if business catalyst offers this feature or any possiblity to achieve it. Could anyone pls give me some help on this?

I have a hughe problem with the serverconnection at the moment. When I try to connect or upload files via DW CC, I get an errormassage that the serverconnection failed. Until yesterday everything worked fine. I also can't connect to the Dashboard/Adminsite.

Dreamweaver Live view, page not found

When I edit a page (site.com/contact.htm) Dreamweaver displays Page Not Found in the live view. I think the reason is that the url isn't supposed to include the extension (site.com/contact).

where in admin is the module_shoppingcartsummary

hey guys im trying to refine the look of my shopping cart summary module for this site http://ceramic-planet2.businesscatalyst.com/home

(just on home page at the moment will add it to other pages when Ive finished updating the look)

as you can see the button looks ugly and needs spacing from the rest of the text on the line. where do i find the module_shoppingcartsummary in admin? or can I edit direct from dreamweaver? I cant find the template Im just messing with the css at the moment but would be good if i had direct access to the table layout so I could space it the way I want. I know you can do this with the shopping cart so hoping it should be possible with the summary box.

Relaunch a website...

I had a pretty complicated website about a year back. I took it down because I could no longer afford the maintenance. Prior to taking it down I downloaded all files and folders present on the website. This also included the web apps folder. If I was to repurchase the WebApps capable BC and upload all folders and files back into the system, would the WebApps continue working as they once were? I'm hoping the website works as if it was never taken down.
