LinkedIn has changed the way that they allow someone to apply for a job using their LinkedIn profile. It has gone from a JavaScript call to explicit oauth calls where you register your application with LinkedIn and, using the keys they give you, call their REST API which prompts the user to share their information with you and returns an authorization token and their information to you. I've implemented this in a different platform where I had access to the server to make the authorization calls. I need to do this in BC now and I can not use implicit JavaScript authorization calls. I can store the LinkedIn settings for the app in a web app and use a web form with workflow to email the person's data once they allow it to be shared. My stumbling block is how to perform an explicit oauth call when BC doesn't supply an oauth proxy I can use to make the authorization calls. Anyone know of any online services that provide this for free or VERY cheap?

BC Secure Zone Form Customization

I have been publishing from Muse to BC and I have multiple cases where forms created using the standard Web Form builder in BC appear un-styled and plain. Can anyone assistance with or help provide reference to articles regarding the customization of these forms?

1.) In the case of secure zone registration forms where the form can run long vertically with all the require input fields, is it possible to split this form into two side-by-side columns?

2.) Is there an easy way to increase the height and width of the input fields of the form so there is a style difference between the field title and the input area of the field?

Discount Code Automatically Adds Product

I have a discount code that is for a free product once $50 in other products are added. The way it is programed now is the person must add the product to be free and then use the discount code which discounts said product. Not the best way.

Basically what I am after is a person adds $50 of items into their shopping cart. They then enter a discount code which automatically adds a free product (a specific product). Can someone guide me in how to do this? This site has liquid enabled and I am willing to us it if someone can guide me in the right direction.

This only affects my index page - four other pages with identical code and styling (and different subsets of content) appear perfectly.

I've combed through the site both in Dreamweaver and with FTP to delete any remnants of old files. The site's index page went up on Wednesday, displayed perfectly for most of Thursday and Friday, then went haywire over the weekend. Last observation: Lines of code appear in the live version of the index page that don't come from my uploaded files. Check out the difference:

Custom layout for product list view

Hi all,

Can I create a template .tpl that is assigned only to either the product detail or list view?......or has any created a workaround for this below?

I want to display a list of products in a particular category, with a sub-menu down the left hand side of the page, but the detail view of the individual product to be across the full page width. I have several categories each with it's own sub-menu ( for the side).

I currently have a few templates, containing the various side menus, formatted to display as I need, but of course, this layout gets assigned also to the detail view, which is what I don't want.

Would be great to see other ideas.

error pages for "CampaignProcess.aspx?ListID="

I am unable to locate where you can template an error page that is coming through CampaignProcess.aspx.

Example: (clicking on the mail submit without a valid email or without an entry) - appearance of red text on blank white page that reads: ERROR: Email address could not be added to list.

All of my system pages appear to be templated correctly and my default template is also templated, but they don't appear to be handling these error pages. Any suggestions?

Does anyone have any javascript or other way to block referring websites like semalt.com from getting to our website? I normally do that through the .htaccess file, but we don't seem to have access to that in BC.

I just set up a filter through google analytics, but I would like to keep them off of our site in general since I think we are getting direct visits from them as well now.

Custom Styling BC Forms

I'm new to Business Catalyst and I'm having a challenge custom styling BC forms. I'd like to to increase the width and height of the fields, add a border around the field elements and increase the line spacing between the fields to begin with. As a designer, I'm use to creating form designs in muse but the form creator in BC is limited without additional code knowledge.

This is a repost of an earlier post. I wanted to be more clear about the steps involved with publishing a Flash HTML 5 canvas document and uploading to a BC blog. I have been unsuccessful so far in getting element to work on my blog:

I recently published an HTML 5 canvas document in Flash but I’m not sure where to place the different parts in my BC blog. My goal is the have the HTML 5 file display on the right side of my blog, similar to an advertisement. I tried several approaches but nothing has worked. I'm not concerned about the code itself because it works when I test it. However, the problem arises when I distribute the different parts.

There are 5 steps I took that involved: the javascript file, the images, the javascript code links, javascript code related to the file, and the canvas element.

Here are the parts and steps I took:

1) Myfile.js

*I put this file in the root folder

*I put the images related to the file in this folder.

3) Javascript code links

*I put this code in the <head> tag of the blog template.

How to let user choose which list they're subscribed to?

Hello,

I have several location-based mailing lists that have been imported into my catalyst site. I also have a web form that subscribes users to my monthly list as they sign up.

I would like to add a dropdown to that web form which subscribes the user to an additional (location-based) list when they sign up. So, they enter their email address, select their state from a dropdown, and upon submit, are subscribed to both the monthly newsletter list and their state specific list.

I know how to do this with the monthly newsletter, using a checkbox. But I can't figure out how to add the dropdown for other lists. I can manually code a dropdown, but I don't know what value to add to each option to make it work. I've tried using the same values that would be created when you add a checkbox but that doesn't seem to add the user to the list. I don't see any documentation on this, and Catalyst help says they can tell me how to do checkboxes only, which would be a crazy long list. I definitely prefer a dropdown.

Does anyone know how to do this?

I scoured the web for answers and no one seems to have a clear cut answer.

I want to load fonts from my muse site and incorporate them into the BC blog module so they load a create a uniform look.

If anyone can supply any solid info I'm ready to hand out some virtual blowies! (Obviously losing my mind).

I'm wasting too much time on this, I don't want my site to look like it was designed in the 80's!

How to sell Digital Image Downloads in Sets ONLY

I am attempting to offer a large number (currently 200 in stock) of original photo images as digital downloads using BC.

I have them entered in the eCommerce system as individual "Products" with digital download enabled, but here is the challenge, the client does not want to sell them as single downloads because of minimum merchant processing fees. Therefore they want to offer a set of 6 (different images) for $5 -and- a set of 13 (different images) for $13.

I could set up 2 products: one for "6 Set" and another for "13 Set", but how would I enable the site visitor to select the images that they want in either set before checking out, keeping in mind that they would expect to receive links to download the images they chose after payment?

Does anyone have in information to share on how I can accomplish this?

Would appreciate any feedback.

Events - Multiple Booking Allocation & Products (In one)?

Does anyone know if there is a way to have multiple booking allocations for validation? for example, i want to be able to set up a booking that will allow the user to select either "adult" and/or "child" tickets, while also enforcing a limit on how many tickets someone can purchase. I don't see an easy way to do this and it doesn't seem like the booking allocation input field can be customized but I though I would see if anyone has set up a booking this way or at least if it's possible. Also, is there a way to add a product for sale with a booking? So for example, the client wants to sell daily harbor sailing tickets for adults & children (with variable pricing and sell limits) and let the customer buy apparel or a cap. Is this doable through a web app, a booking OR can all this be accomplished with the catalog?

Has anyone had issues with navigation not working in IE 11?

I Have a client that is telling me their whole office just upgraded to Windows XP and when they are in IE 11 some of the main navigation items do not work. In fact everything else works fine except for the ABOUT US, SERVICES, GET INVOLVED, IN THE NEWS and PHOTO GALLERIES links on the home page at nashuacenter.org

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if a website like www.vistaprint.co.uk can be replicated in business catalyst? Could we use a third party piece of software to do it? Can we build something bespoke in catalyst?

The business wants people to be able to order business cards, flyers, posters etc online and display a custom message over the templates they may have. They also want people to be able to login and submit proofs for print, check proofs and okay the work.

Is there anyone out there that could build such a solution or is catalyst the wrong platform?

Alert when Shopping Cart Price is Greater than $40

Hey everyone, I've got a client who would like a message displayed when the shopping cart exceeds $40 (before tax and shipping).

In addition to the message, they would like to offer a free membership and optional magazine. Neither of these will be managed through BC, but I need to be able to pass that information off to the client.

My first thought is to create a custom CRM field with a check box that can be toggled on and off from the checkout page. I've also wondered if there is a way to add a free product (the membership and magazine) to the shopping cart once the price is over $40.

Do any of you have experience with this situation?

Edge Animate file working on main blog page but not on the individual blog post

I recently uploaded an edge animate file to my blog. The file works on the main blog page but not on the individual blog post. How can I solve this problem?

I did the following steps:

I added the required Adobe Edge scripts on my main blog template.
Create folder on the server called "edge_includes" and uploaded the 'edge.5.0.0.min' file.
Create folder on the server called "js" and uploaded the 'jquery-1.7.1.min' file.
Copy and pasted the div to the part of the blog post I wanted the file to appear (<div id="Stage" class="EDGE-13973370"></div>).
Uploaded the name of the js file to the root called 'World of Code_edge.'
Uploaded the images to the existing folder called 'images.'

Help using a Dragn'Drop in a BC eCommerce site created in Muse

I want to create a DragN'Drop template functionality to display multiple photo image galleries on a web page where the site visitor can select 12 images to drag and drop into a grid of 12 empty spaces on the SAME page.

I located the following 3rd party script: http://www.redips.net/my/preview/REDIPS_drag/example10/ This would be perfect because the scrolling containers on the left can contain the photo image galleries from which the image selection if "dragged" and the static container on the right can be the receptacle where the selected images are "dropped".

The twelve selected or (dropped) images represent an eCommerce product that the client will print and ship to the customer. This means that at some point the site visitor will need to add this template to the shopping cart and pay for the template order.

Because Muse over-writes when published to BC, I will need to insert the template in to a Muse page as HTML. The questions is:

1.) How can I get the template to work with the BC shopping cart function and process the finished "dropped" selection as an order?

2.) Once the selections are "dropped" into place, how can I have the system email a copy of the selected "dropped" images to an email address?

If there is a BC expert out there who can offer a few clues as to how I can make this all work -- I would greatly appreciate it?

"Printer Friendly" version of template

I have a website for a small restaurant with some static pages showing their menu (of meals, not the navigation menu).

I want to include a link on each menu page to a "printer friendly version" which would simply remove the header, navbar and footer from the current page so that the main section of the page can then be printed.

Why do they want this? So the restaurant owner can print off the menu themselves on hard-copy paper to use it within the restaurant. They do not want the header, navigation bar or footer to be printed in this case.

I have created two templates. One as-is on the website (including header, navbar, main content, and footer). The other template includes just the content section.

I see a couple of possibilities:

Create two versions of each static page with each one pointing to one of the templates. I can have the actual menu in a content holder so the owner does not have to update two copies of the same menu. This can work, but I am wondering if there are more interesting ways of doing this.
Use jQuery to remove the DIV's of the header, navbar and footer (if a parameter is passed along in the URL). I can experiment with this as an idea if you guys think this is worthwhile exploring.
Dynamically change the template assigned to the page. I am not sure if this could even be done. ????

Is there a way of doing "View as PDF" as this Forum allows? Can I do that with BC? Is this a possibility to do as an "App" as I have wanted a little pet-project to choose to try writing my own App.

Are there any other ideas?

WebApp Custom Fields with Liquid

With the liquid rendering engine tags in webapps have changed.

For instance in the list layout I could display the name of the webapp item by using the following tag: {tag_name_nolink. With liquid I can use: {{name}}

But for custom webapp fields what is the liquid equivalent?

Example:

I have a tag called "Reserved by". I can output that tag using: {tag_Reserved by}. With the liquid how would I render the same tag?

Am I missing something?

Looking for 2 Product Solutions for eCommerce site created in Muse and published to BC

Seeking suggestions for 2 separate BC eCommerce website product applications: I have within BC so far about 200 image in the in a folder in the "File Manager" -AND- each image has been optimized as a low-res digital image down-load product (divided among 20 catalogs).

#1. Image downloads not for individual purchase but as (a bundle of 6 for one price) and (a bundle of 13 for second price) only.

I'm trying to customize two BC products a 6 Pack & 13 Pack of digital image downloads. Normally in BC, a visitor could purchase a single image as a downloadable product and after successful check-out they would receive an email containing the download links. I need to disable single unit purchases and enable the customer to ONLY select 6 images for one price -or- select 13 images for one price. After successful check-out they would receive links for either 6 download files or 13 based on their purchase. They could also purchase multiple pack sets.

#2. Allow the site visitor to select 12 images (from 200 images among 20 catalogs) for a 12 month custom calendar which would be printed and shipped. The BC product here would be a 12 month custom calendar. I have a product listed in BC as a "12-Month Custom Calender" and a display page titled the same. I have been looking into a drag n drop system that would allow the visitor to: purchase the product > select 12 images > submit their select by email to site admin.

I have limited coding skill and I should mention that I originally created and continue to add-on to the site with Adobe Muse. Because I chose to use Muse, I have been looking for solutions that I can embed in Muse pages as "Objects" as Muse will over-write BC custom elements as it is over-written. I have looked at either using a 12 field drag n drop which might work but I can't determine how to make the 20 catalogs available on the same page to select from.

Can ANYONE offer suggestions?

Discount Code Options

Are any of these discount codes possible in BC or will they be possible with BC.next?

1. "Buy $50.00 worth of product and receive a free …" - When the code gets entered, it adds the free item to the order if they have spent $50.00.

2. "Buy one get one Free" - Kind of self-explanatory.

3. "Buy one get one x% off" - Same as above.

4. "Buy 4 or more cans of coating, regardless of size or series and receive a 15% discount" - The one we have always been trying to get into the cart system. This isn't so much a code as it is an automated discount.

5. "Buy products a, b, c and d and get x free with your order"

6. "Buy this item, get that item for a discount."

Webapp address search form-search by state

I have a location-based search and I am trying to get the states listed in a webapp search form dropdown. I can add in the dropdown, but it isn't part of the search. I would like the ability for the user to search by state only, not having to enter a zip code. When I try this, all of the items in the webapp are displayed in the results.

Since the State is part of the address and not a custom field, how do I include it as part of the search script? When I output the search form, state isn't part of that, only zip and country.

Does everything have to be determined by the ZIP code?

Also, with international addresses, can I just have a search based on Country and no postal code?

I want to place a numeric tag that is individual to each autoresponder email for everyone that signs up to one of my mailing lists.

What I am doing is sending them a coupon that needs to have a unique numeric identifier.

I don't care what type of numeric tag it is, or its length.

When I try to set up the autoresponder it allows me to post tags such as the person's name or email.

is there a way to do this through API integration? if so how?

My website's width is all out of sync in that it doesn't set correctly. I tried changing the Alpha part of the css to something else but it still doesn't work. Still doesn't size right in Chrome or Firefox

I really need registered customer to be able to aisgn themselves to additional secure zone. In my particular case this second secure zone is a Trial zone, so when it expires customer have to have the first secure zone present so he's not out of zones he belongs to.

I have set a form up that asigns customer to the trial zone, but this creates addidional user and not aisgns additional secure zone to existing customer.

Is there a way to asign customer to two zones automatically (without touching admin console)? With JS maybe. I know its possible to specify the secure zone expiration date with JS when form is submitted so maybe theres a way to asign customer to two zones or better to make a form that acts inside existing secure zone and grants customer with additional secure zone.

To specify zone expiry date you use id="ExpiryDate" in form input field. Maybe there is input ID that asigns additional secure zone

to customer? Like SecureZone or similar...

Maybe theres a way to asign additional secure zones for existing customer through account details update page?

Please let me know.

Redirect to Google Analytics enriched URL

Hi,

I am trying to do a simple redirect so that i can append a url to include some google tracking info.

For example:

http://mosscreek.businesscatalyst.com/lhl

should redirect to

http://www.mosscreek.net/lhl?utm_source=log-home-living&utm_medium=print&utm_content=camas -creek_decoy-2&utm_campaign=october-2014

I've tried setting it up through the admin but it is not working.

I am also wondering if there is a way to just save the actual URL of the page as the google link. This way no redirect is needed. I tried this in the admin but it would not accept/save the URL because of the various characters.

Any help?

Can you update a web app's weighting field automatically??

I'm having a real hard time understanding why we have the power in BC to build web apps but can't sort data the way we want through automation... I realize at this point, the only way to sort my items by date is to manipulate the weighting field. However, I’m building a user driven site with all user submitted content and it needs to be available immediately. Now, obviously results are posted online as soon as they are submitted but as of now, the only automatic way to display results that makes any sense is by a Recent Activity listing or Alphabetical.

Is there any way to automate updating an item's weighting field so that results can be available in order of, for example, Event Date (custom date field)?????

HELP PLEASE - all this power sure seems like a waste if you can't manipulate your results accordingly!!

Hi Adobe gurus,

I need some help with my website blog post list. My client can't afford the e-commerce plan so I don't have webapps (adobe makes it real hard there)

What im trying to do is basicly have a thumbnail image preview on my blog post list from the blog post details.

At the moment I have it set up in my Blog Post List Layout as this

I also was trying to get the image from the {tag_blogpostbodypreview,Text} and resize it, is it possible? If so I would love to know if anyone can help me with this thanks.

E-Commerce Product and Shipping Issues

Hi All

I have a customer who has got 12 shipping options.

They want the ability to go against their items and enter values of between 1 - 12 (1 = Free / 12 = 24.95). Can we use one of the weight, height, width, depth fields and enter a single value into there which will then pull through the shipping cost?

If an item which is a band 5 shipping, can the system use the cost of the band 5 shipping only instead of an accumulative cost?

Dependent on the value they enter the system should recognise the the highest shipping value item in the cart and apply that shipping charge automatically.

The current shipping system in catalyst is very poor, and for some small businesses that are not shipping large volumes to charge a flat rate will put customers off especially when you have items to the value of £1.99 and the flat rate is £3.95!

2. Is there a way of implementing a button which will allow the user to collect from store an deduct any shipping charges?

3. Product Attributes

The customer has 2 types of paint pots, a sample pot priced at 5.95 and a 1 litre pot at £18.95

At the moment we have two products setup with the same information, sample and main item and this will result in us having duplicated content which is no good for SEO.

Is there a way to setup a product which has two attributes and the first attribute is automatically selected (£18.95) and the user can then select a smaller size if they require.

Customize using Form with Shopping Cart function?

so my client needs to run promotions like BUY 4 GET 1 FREE and BUY 6 GET 1 FREE

the tricky part is the products vary in price and the customer needs to be able to select the 6 they pay for and the free one from something list a List menu or series of radio buttons on a custom form in the product large page

So, how can i let a customer select 6 products from one catalog (of varying price) to quality for a free product (that they also choose fro that catalog) and pass the appropriate price to the shopping cart?

Ordering blog tags by number of posts

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to order blog tags by number of associated posts rather than alphabetically?

We are using the tag "{tag_blogtaglist,20}" so that only the top 20 tags are displayed, but this is just cutting off lots of popular tags and doesn't appear to be of much use.

Instead, is there a way of ordering tags by popularity? That way it would be the less popular tags which get hidden.

Javascript suddenly stopped functioning in Firefox?

I'm working with a site that stopped working in Firefox randomly. This piece of code is populating into the html each time I try to update, and I'm trying to understand it. I haven't made any changes to the javascript used in the site but whatever this is has completely disabled all the site elements that use javascript. The kicker is that it only happens in Firefox. Chrome works perfectly. I've been poring over the html all day and this is the only thing that's wrong with it- I'm at my wit's end, any ideas?
