I can't see Imported/Copied Topics

Some of you may recall me posting a few weeks ago that I inherited a mess that consists of CHM files instead of individual topics for csh. Each link for CSH calls a full CHM file. Now I am trying to pull them all into one project and set them up properly for use in our NEW product.

So, I poked around the forums and saw in one place that there was an IMPORT PROJECT option - but that doesn't seem to exist in RH10. The Merge Projects option doesn't seem to be what I need either at this point.

I am simply trying to do a test to see what is involved with pulling in old htm topics to my new project with its own set of topics. I saw on one of the forums that I could import a topic, but everything else would have to be manually moved over (like images, and other topic related files). So, instead of importing the topic, I simply went to the folder of the old chm project and copied anything and everything that had the project name (in this case "Scheduler") in the file name. I then pasted it into my project. This included 2 style sheets, several images, and things like apj, cpd, brs, etc.

However, when I open my project into which I copied all those files, I don't see anything relating to those files. So, I thought perhaps I had not copied in the htm - I then tried to just import just the topic "Scheduler" from the chm project file. However, in doing that I got an error that said that the file already existed in the project. But I'm not seeing it in the Project Manager... WHAT STEP OR TRICK OR OBVIOUS ISSUE AM I MISSING?

Multiple language workflow

I have several projects in RoboHelp 11 that are complete in English, but now we are translating the content. I have read through the multiple language workflow instructions in the help, but I can't seem to interpret what they are saying. This step from the help files is very difficult to follow:

Open an English topic, create a topic for the French language, and translate the content, including the topic title from English to French. (Do not translate topic filenames.)

It is not possible to have two topics in the same project with the same filename...how would this even work? Do I need to create separate folders for topics for each language? I currently have topic htm files and table of contents translated for the project I'm working on, but I just don't know what to do with them now. I have been scouring the internet and these forums, but everytime I think I find something worthwhile, it's a dead link. I just want to know what the basic workflow is for adding topic files for other languages and generating output. If anyone can help that would be fantastic!

TOC Is not showing properly in IE8, also the images (home icon, print icon, etc.)are extremely distorted in IE8

Hello,

I'm using Generate --> Primary Layout (Responsive HTML5). When I view my project in IE8, I get very distorted images (stretched out). The TOC also does not show up properly on the left hand side, if at all. However, if I use Chrome/Firefox, everything works fine.

I also notice I get an error on page from IE8 which states:

Object doesn't support this property or method

toctree.js

I'm assuming this is an issue with Java. I have been able to try this on IE9 which works fine as well.

Does RoboHelp not support IE8 with the TOC?

Upgrading higher than IE8 is not a possibility due to the company still using Windows XP.

Has anyone encountered this before or know of a fix for this? I tried updating Java but that did not seem to work either.

rhsnippet.apj Error with RoboHTML 11 Project on Network

I have an RH 11 project on a network drive. The project has 485 snippets. When adding or modifying snippets I get the following error:

An error occurred while trying to read data from <n:\roboHelp Projects\\rhsnippet.apj <1>.

When I open the rhsnippet.apj file, the file is truncated like this:

It seems that RoboHelp cannot complete writing to the APJ file.

After closing and reopening the project, I then get a message saying the cpd is corrupt. After deleting the cpd and reopening the project, I still get a message saying the project is corrupt.

The only way I have found to fix the project is to move the project back to a local drive, delete the cpd, delete the rhsnippet.apj file and re-import all the snippets.

I have seen a similar issue which was resolved by moving to another network drive. I moved my project to another network drive but the issue still occurred.

rhsnippet.apj Error with RoboHTML 10 Project on Network

My experience with R10 R11 projects on a network drive has been problematic, despite Adobes assertion that R11 and R10 projects now work on network drives. For example, Adobe support confirmed that RoboHelp does not support projects on a network drive that uses DFS (Distributed File System). I have found that large projects seem to be problematic on network drives.

I suspect that part of this issue is the large amount of snippets I have, as other projects on the network drive don't appear to have this issue as they do not contain a large amount of snippets.

If anybody else has experienced a similar issue with projects on a network drive related to snippets I'd be grateful for some advice.

I cannot install the 11.0.3 RoboHelp Patch.

I cannot install the 11.0.3 RoboHelp Patch. I have manually downloaded it, unzipped it and then tried to install it. A message tells me I do not have Administrators rights even when I install using the 'Run as Administrator' option from the Windows right click menu. The update option is also grayed out on the Help menu in RoboHelp, so I can't use that option either.

Hi, i have some of question, i know that Robohelp can hide some of contents on HTML using conditional build tag (CBT), can i use this tool to hide some of word on the topic's title?

Ex: topic title is : Introduce Overview ; I wanna hide "Introduce" when i generate to CHM file for X version, so the title will be only "Overview" on TOC. Else I wanna hide Overview and show "Introduce" when i generate to CHM file for Y version. Is it possible to apply CBT on partially words topic's title like that? because whenever i use right click for partial words then there are not CBT function available on Robohelp? Help Me...

Can not generate PDF Output in RoboHelp 11

Can not generate PDF Output. I keep getting the same error message:

"Microsoft® Word has not been started on this computer.

Launch Word and click the 'Start using Microsoft® Word' option before generating Printed Documentation again."

I have MS Office 2013 32-bit and RoboHelp on a 64-bit Wondows desktop.

What do am I doing wrong?

I have installed the RoboHelp 11 version on 18th of September 2014 and it is going to expire on 17th of October 2014. I would like to explore the software more before we decide to buy the software. So, it would be great if you could suggest me a way to extend the trial software for another 30 days.

First Topic Missing from TOC

When I generate Printed Documentation to a standard Word doc. Chapter 1 and it's associated topic are missing from the TOC:

The TOC begins with Chapter 2:

For grins and giggles I generated the documentation with ONLY Chapter 1 selected to see what would happen; it shows up in the TOC just fine:

In either case, the topic is published in the body of the text just as it should be. The only issue is that Chapter 1 doesn't make it into the TOC when I generate the whole thing.

I have no conditional Build Expressions.

The Topic properties are set for it to be included in the TOC.

There is only one TOC.

Ham-handed efforts to simply add it manually to the TOC in Word failed miserably.

Is there some sort of secret setting I am missing? How do I get the TOC to accept Chapter 1 along with the other chapters??? I would be most grateful for any assistance. Thanks in advance.

Should I be able to find glossary terms when I do a search? Currently when I do a search my glossary terms do not come up, just the topics created. If I create a hotspot for the glossary terms will they then come up in a Search?

junk glyphs added to Multiscreen html 5 output in robohelp

I have linked and imported a framemaker 11 file to robohelp 10.

I generated the Multiscreen HTML 5 output from robohelp.

I find that certain junk characters have got added to the outputs. I dont face this issue in the webhelp output.

Any help on this would be great!

Printed Documentation error

When I click the Next button in the Print Document General - Printed Documentation Wizard, RH10 stops working.

It allows me to Save and Generate but does not allow to click Next.

I get the same error in sample projects too..

Can somebody tell me what causes this crash?

MS HTML TOC displays, why not content?

I'm using RH 11, and some of our programmers have decided that they want me to produce CHMs for their programs rather than WebHelp. When I generate MS HTML Help, I get the TOC and Index in the Help just fine, but none of the content displays. This is true of any MS HTML Help I generate, so I know it's some mistake or setting I'm missing.

Any clues?

Text from Design view is not visible on View

I converted a project from RoboHelp 9 to 11, and discovered that several of my topics were changed. Most of the changes were minor, e.g. spacing, bold type, bullets, etc., but I'm still having to go through each page, to make corrections. Oftentimes, the "problems" don't show up until I View the topic, but up to this point I've been able to fix them. However, one topic looks fine in Design view, but when I open it in View, almost all of the text is gone. I've tried retyping portions, to see if it reappeared, but not all of it does. Do you have any idea what is happening and how I fix it?

Can I search for text within IFrames?

I'm doing some exploring to see if I can display SharePoint content in IFrames. Success! I can view Word files saved as HTML pages and view it in IFrames.

But then I decided to see if I can identify keyboards in the IFrame with a search. Alas, my plan falls flat.

I suspect the answer is no, but I hope to be proven wrong. Can I somehow search for text that shows up in an IFrame?

Hi All

Im having an issue with an application called Robosource Control 3.1. There is a component called SCC Profile Editor which on a Windows 7 x32bit device works fine, but it will not open at all on a Windows 7 x64 bit device. It flashes on then immediately off no matter what we try.

Has anyone seen this issue before ?

No errors in event logs, im running it as an admin user too.

Any ideas appreciated

Which suggests calling the help topic in this manner:

So I had

server.com/path/index.htm#path/target.htm

When I test this in the application, the help still displays with SHOW link rather than the Navigation panes.

If I click Show, then the link displays in using the #, so I know it has gotten the parameter, but it is just ignoring it on the Help click.

The customer is getting pretty antsy about this. Does anyone have another possible solution? It really seems to me that this should be possible.

IF there is absolutely no way to resolve this issue, is there any way for me to change the Show link to say "Show Table of Contents". Maybe it will appease them slightly.

Font size of numbers for numbered lists is wrong, but only in tables

In my compiled RoboHelp 11 HTML project (.chm), the numbered lists in the text correctly show 9 pt numbers, but the numbered lists in tables show 12 pt numbers. Both show 9 pt numbers in RoboHelp.

The CSS file has these definitions for numbered lists:

P.Numbered-List {

font-family: Arial;

font-style: normal;

font-variant: normal;

font-size: 9.0pt;

text-indent: 0.0pt;

margin-right: 0.0pt;

margin-top: 4pt;

margin-bottom: 4pt;

margin-left: 0pt;

To make a numbered list, I apply my "Numbered-List" paragraph style, click the Create a Numbered List button, then select the P.Numbered-List style from the Custom tab in the Bullets and Numbering dialog. If I make a numbered list with the Available Style "(none)" selected, it still gives 12 pt numbers, but only when the list is in a table.

RoboHelp 11 glossary with terms of several words, sometimes only first word is marked

I'm using RoboHelp for a long time and now version 11. I have a big problem with glossary. I'm generating marked terms automatically. I have some terms of several word. For example my glossary has terms "Virtual" and "Virtual computer". The problem is that, if I have the text "bla bla bla Virtual computer bla bla bla", sometimes only "Virtual" is marked (wrong) and sometimes in other rubrics "Virtual computer" is entirely marked (and I want only that feature).

Could you help me or explain me?

How do I connect multiple users to a project on Sharepoint for collaboration

I have 2 users working in Robohelp 11. I have uploaded a project to SharePoint 2010 and it seems to funtion fine with version control. I would like to connect a second user to that same project on SharePoint so the 2 users can collaborate. However, I don't see any options in Robohelp that allows for a user to connect to an existing project on sharepoint, only to upload a new project. Please help.

RH11 - getting original comments to show in PDF for review?

I am using RH 11, and tracking changes. I use the Add Review Comment option extensively to indicate to my reviewers which screen shot is for the new release as well as to ask questions of them and explain why I am taking out a particular sentence. I use Tools --> Create PDF for Review, and I've been testing saving it to my local drive or emailing it to myself. The redlining for deletions and green writing for additions works fine. However, for areas where I have comments, I have yellow highlighting, but cannot see the comment.

Any ideas as to why?

I'm desperate to get this review process started, and so I sent a request Adobe's tech support email as well as called them. I have a MAJOR deadline to get my materials to reviewers, and I direly need those comments to show.

I'm wondering if any of you wizards of RH have any ideas.

Applied styles aren't showing up in preview or generated file

I have added a number of new styles to my stylesheet. They show up fine in my Design view. However, once I apply them, then click on the preview button or even generate webhelp to see what they look like as generated, the styles are not showing up. What am I missing?

btw.. I am using RH10.

Robohelp 11 - Responsive HTML5 output

When I use the browse forward and back buttons the pages shows up in illogical order. The reason is that my project was imported from Robohelp 7 to Robohelp 11. In Robohelp 7 all the pages was located in a large Word document and they were located random as they were made. It is this order that is imported. Is it possible for me to affect this order in Robohelp 11 so that it becomes logical when I scroll back and forth with these keys? I have tried to find out if there are any id on the pages that I can manipulate, but have not been able to find this.

I am trying to put a hyperlink on my page which redirects to open up a .chm file and then jump to the topic where I am expecting it to be. For example I have 5 fields on my webpage. Each has a separate page of description. I have created 5 different topics and htm files to describe those. Now I need to jump to the page of the exact field topic when the user clicks on the hyperlink on my webpage. How can I make this functionality working? Is there any way to jump to the exact topic page from the .CHM file? Please guide me..I am in the a big trouble out here to enable this functionality...please anybody help...thanks for that in advance....

What exactly do the "levels" in Browse Sequence Editor mean?

I have a ToC with three levels Unit > Lesson > Topic > Sub Topic. This ToC is coming from the linked FM. The ToC is paginated at Topic level and Sub Topic is basically a section within the Topic.

Now, I wanted my users to navigate through the course at sub topic level using Browse Sequence buttons. For example, in the screenshot shared below, I want the users to move from First Sub Heading sub topic to Second Sub Heading topic using Browse Sequence buttons. I thought I could achieve this by increasing the browse sequence levels. But that is not working. So, I am curious. What do these mean? Can I actually achieve my goal at all? If browse sequence level is not the correct way, can somebody please help me with the right approach?

Hello!

We have published our project in Sharepoint library with Publish - Sharepoint (Native) settings and System Master Page

When we try to open any .aspx file from this library, we get an error:

"An error occured during the processing of /sites/it/Robohelp/desktop/Izmenenia.aspx. The Server tag is not well formed ."

In Sharepoint logs we don't see any errors, only this request:

RoboHelp 9-Can the !SSL! folder be deleted?

Going back to my earlier post from today, I am still trying to figure out how to remedy my issue.

Will it hurt if I delete the !SSL! folder? From what I can gather, the SSL folder updates every time you generate the layout to see the user guide in its online version.

Will the !SSL! folder be recreated by RoboHelp?

Hi.

I am updating a user guide that I did not create. My procedure once I have completed my updates is to go under My RoboHelp Projects in Windows Explorer, find the project name then open it's folder. I zip the !SSL! folder and post it to a common site for developers to grab the files.

I am having an issue with not being able to zip the folder due to a long path name. I have completely deleted the old Folders and Topics and reentered them all, using shorter path names.

When I try to zip the !SSL! folder after my changes, it still displays an error stating it cannot zip the folder due to the path name being too long.

However...the path name displayed in the error message is with the previously deleted folders/topics.

When I go into Windows Explorer and look at the folders which are shown, I still see old information, which I deleted within RoboHelp.

Am I able to delete old items when in Windows Explorer? I thought it all had to be done within RoboHelp. I do not want to risk corrupting my user guide because it would literally take months to recreate.

The content of RH 10 Webhelp output, with a custom skin does not load on IE 10.

I have installed all the patches given here:

RoboHelp project management strategy

Morning

I have some general questions, for which I doubt there are any "correct" answers, but I'm sure people will have useful to say all the same. First, some background information.

I have used RoboHelp before (version 8) to manage a handful of small, disparate projects, but I have not used the software for a couple of years (which is probably the last time I used these forums, but under a different ID).

In my current role I manage around 400 hundred Word documents, from which I generate user guides as PDFs, spread across three or four software releases. There is not a lot of cross over between these guides, but there are a number of core pieces of functionality, which sometimes bleed into the other areas. I also manage some very basic online help pages, most of which are duplicates of what is in the Word docs. As it stands I have no single-sourcing and often changes in one version of a guide also need to be made to the other versions and the online help.

I am looking to streamline this system, by moving away from Word docs and using RoboHelp 10 instead. While my company has not decided precisely how they want to distribute documentation for future products, I am pretty confident I will need to continue to generate online help (for which customers will only get updates once a quarter) and stand alone PDFs.

Based on the quantity and content of the guides I have, I think each version of the software will need around 10,000 topics (and well over a 1,000,000 words), with maybe 5,000 image files. From this I will need to output selected text and images for the online help (which will be context sensitive) and around 100 PDFs. For now I will be managing this on my own, but I may need to work collaboratively with another tech author in the near future.

So that's the background, here are my questions:

Is it practical to put all of that into a single project?
Will future collaborative working require the documentation to be broken down into separate projects?
How easy is it to manage context sensitive help across multiple projects
We use Serena Dimensions for version control. Does RoboHelp 10 integrate with Dimensions effectively or will I need to also use RoboSource?
Our PDFs are heavily formatted and include the following:
- a cover page
- standard declaration and revision history page
- contents page
- mirrored headers/footers which include the document title, chapter heading, page number and copyright statement.
- auto-numbered paragraphs, which swap to letters for the appendices.
- a readers' comments section at the back
- a rear cover.
Is it possible to include all that in PDFs generated from RoboHelp content, in the same way you might from Word?
Am I assuming I will need to create a separate SSLfor each PDF I need to generate, each with its own TOC. Is that right?
Any general tips on managing different versions of the same documentation, several of which will be live at the same time?

I imported word doc into my robohelp project and there is a lot of span tag junk i want to get rid of.

Is there an expression i can build in the "find and replace" tool that will find any span tag and its contents?

In the following example I want to delete the whole string including the brackets:

I'm thinking possibly a wildcard like: <span ***>

I don't see a wildcard option in robohelp help related to building find expressions.

Change Table of Contents Page Title style in RH 11

I want to change the style of Table of Contents Page Title for Printed Documentation. I would like it to be left justified.

I have added the style to the CSS using the CSS Editor - no luck. First, the Table of Contents Page Title style does not even appear in the CSS Editor. So, I added a style called "TOC" and then changed the existing "Table of Contents Page Title" style to "TOC" in the Style Mapping.dot file. Tried to re-generate the printed doc and it still inserts the original "Table of Contents Page Title" style and does not apply the "TOC" style to the page title.

I simply want the table of contents title to be left-justified, but I cannot seem to get it to recognize this style change.

Any suggestions? Ready to tear my hair out! We have about 50 guides to generate and I would rather not have to manually fix in each Word doc.

Anyone having project upgrade problems from RoboHelp 10 to RoboHelp 11?

I'm receiving an error when attempting to upgrade a RoboHelp 10 project with seven content folders to RoboHelp 11. The error includes the first folder name but all the files in that folder appear in the RH 11 project (as do the files from the 7th content folder). I was contracted to train someone to maintain this and other help projects, and to get this project back in shape, but I'm stumped by the upgrade failure. RH Support suggested that I create a new project and copy files from the RH10 version. I'd rather not deal with all the broken links that would result. Does anyone have a better solution? Some background: This project was originally created with RH7 for Word and I understand it was upgraded from RH7 to RH10 with painful results. I'm pretty sure the developer did not upgrade from RH7 one version at a time. The last person assigned to maintain the project had no RH experience (the old "admin could do this" attitude, I suspect). Thanks for any help you can offer!

RoboHelp10 Search Progress Bar

I upgraded Robohelp9 WebHelp projects to Robohelp10 successfully but the Search % bar is not working when a search is requested. Can anyone offer a reason why or a fix for that?

I am using RH 10 file in RH 11 by upgrading it. But search functionality is not working for pages created in RH 11, search functionality is fine with pages created in RH 10. I am using multiscreen html 5 output in IE 8 and safari (Mac). Please let me know

Attempted to try several options:

Save the compiled version as Pure HTML - the filenames in the output have .HTM

Save the compiled version as DHTML - the filenames in the output have .HTM

Renamed all HTM files in the WEBHELP to HTML - the project would not open

Any suggestions?

I am trying to insert a captivate 7 HTML 5 output in Robohelp 10. I tried the steps specified by adding an adobe captivate demo. I linked it to both the swf file and the index.html file. However I am getting an error, that the index.htm file is not valid. Can you please let me know the solution to this.

I have RH 11. .chm extensions obviously were rendered useless remotely. Cannot undo the security thigns via the registry hacks that have bounded around the last 8+ years.

Has Adobe ever addressed this and fixed the vulnerability?

Do any of the other extensions get around this problem? I heard that web help was a bear.

RoboHelp 9 - Need to delete .gif from a Topic folder but action is not available.

I have removed all topics from a folder in RoboHelp 9. I want to now delete the folder but there is a .gif that is under the folder. I right clicked on the image but Delete is not available. How do I delete the .gif so I can then delete the folder?

Web-Crawler Compliant output from Robohelp 11

We are using RoboHelp 9 to generate our online document library in webhelp format, and are trying to get this searchable from 3rd party search engines (Google CSE or Swiftype) . However, we found that the webcrawlers can't get any pages back from our site, and this seems to be related to the frames used in the webhelp html. I've seen comments from people who think that non-frame based HTML 5 would solve our problems and have been evaluating both Flare 10 and RoboHelp 11, and generating output in Responsive HTML5, to see if this works.

So far we've had no luck with this. We've even tried generating a sitemap.xml, which in theory solves all our problems but web-crawlers don't pick up anything from this either.

Anybody been down this route and got any ideas ?
