Position Panel--No Data--Drop Down Grayed

Version: Captivate 8.

This morning my Position Panel shows blank. Yesterday it functioned well. I worked with position properties in both responsive and traditional projects yesterday afternoon. Currently the Window drop down shows "Position Properties" as gray and unavailable (although checked and the tab visible on the right). No information shows in the Position panel for all project types EXCEPT Responsive Projects. The position panel functions well for new and existing responsive projects.

Actions:

Closed and reopened Cp.

Cleared the project cache and restarted my computer

Opened new and existing non-responsive type projects to test for availability.

Searched Preferences with projects open and with no project open. I cannot find an option controlling the Position Properties function.

Any suggestions?

Captivate 8 (C8) not transferring correct slide resolution from PowerPoint (PPT)

I am tasked with transferring quite a number of PPT presentations into C8. I have come across a few 'bugs' and am trying to solve them, one by one.

Today's issue: slides from PPT are not transfering into C8 with the correct screen resolution. The first thing I noticed about my slide transfer was that the titles in my PPT slides are not in the same position when transfered over into C8, and the font is pixilated. Even when I go into PPT and make changes, save those changes and then update the file in C8, I still have a problem with the titles not being in the correct spot. I know they are off because the titles appear within a band of silver, with a thick, brown bar above them in PPT. In C8, the titles are squished into the brown bar with too much space left over in the silver band -

This is using the default 10" x 7.5" aspect ratio in PPT, and the pixel equivalent in C8 of 720x540. The font is BANK GOTHIC.

(BTW: I found a chart here - I Came, I Saw, I Learned...: PowerPoint: Changing Slide Sizes for Importing into Captivate which is not correct. For instance, this chart suggests a slide resolution of 10.5" x 7" would transfer over into C8 as1008 px x 672px. This size is incorrect; it still produces incorrect slide resolution. And there is no way to use this chart for custom slide sizes).

When I changed the font (to CENTURY GOTHIC), I did get a better result in the position of my title:

However, I am still experiencing the pixilation of the font. I closed this project out of C8 without saving and then re-transfered the files. This time, I went with the C8 default resolution of 960x720 - this translates in Powerpoint to 13.333" x 10". NOT the same slide setting I have in PPT, which is 10" x 7.5" however, this looks much better, with less pixilation of the font within the work area. When I publish it out, the pixilation goes away and the font is smooth again.

My conclusion: some fonts do not transfer well into C8, and screen resolutions differ from PPT, Photoshop and C8. If you are having difficulties getting your PPT slides to look the same in C8, it could be your font is not transfering well, or it could be your screen resolution.

If I have a button that I want to be down towards the end of the slide, how would I accomplish this? In Storyline, there are triggers that can change the state of button X to hidden/disabled/normal etc. How do Captivate 8 button states work?

Closed Captioning Problem - Disappears (Or Doesn't)

This is driving me crazy!! I have a project in which on some slides the closed captioning disappears at the end of the slide audio, and on some slides the closed captioning stays up at the end of the slide audio. In both cases I have a click box set to rest of slide and pause project until user clicks, along with a text caption set for rest of slide, and audio narration. And that's it.

Why does the CC disappear on one slide at the end but not the other? I want it to be consistent one way or the other.

I copied all the slides to a new project and it behaves the same way. If I publish it to HTML5, the CC disappears at the end of all the slides. If I publish it to SWF, I get the strange behavior above.

I have CP 7.0.1.237 on a Win 7 PC.

Captivate 7 html5 start screen blank - fixes?

In Captivate 7, if I save as html 5, the start screen appears as blank if you choose not to have Autoplay in the Settings. I had read on this board a fix that involves creating a poster image, unchecking Autoplay, and browsing for and selecting that image. It works for me - sort of. The image and a start button appears, but then they both stay there, superimposed, for the rest of my presentation. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Does anyone know if this is fixed in Captivate 8? I have access to it, was going to wait until I finished my current projects before upgrading.

Extraneous click boxes on slides imported from PowerPoint--even after importing with "Automatically" checked

I imported a PowerPoint 2010 file into Captivate 8. When importing, I selected "Automatically" for advancing. When the slides are imported, you can click the left and right side of the screen and advance the slides. This is immediate right after importing...I haven't done any editing to the slides yet. In looking at the Timeline...there are no click box objects on these slides at all. How do I remove these extra clicks?

Issue with download of Adobe Captivate 8

Hi at all!

I have one issue really strange.

I have tried to download Adobe Captivate 8 on Adobe's website.

But when I click on the button "install now" suddetly one window appairs and it ask me

the path of the computer for to save my file.

When I choose a path of my computer other window appairs and it tell me

"It's impossible save a file".

I don't understand, I have tried to change a path but nothing It doesn't work.

I hope that somebody help me

I am very new to Captivate and using is 1st time.

I have just completed my first presentation of 15 minutes on captivate 8 and it took me around 1 month

Got many queries in between, solved many myself, but still have few.

Please guide me if possible.

I tried to Record my voice and stuck with many problems. First was a good microphone. Atlast I purchased Sennheiser Headset with Mic.

Recording ok, but still many problems like background sounds toooo much in my locality. used cleaner but still not comfortable. Then my personal problem since my voice is not that much clear.

I found speech management Text-To-Speech and downloaded neospeech for captivate 8. Installed and completed my first project.

I am using Paul and James voice. Also I have downloaded Ivona's Raveena (Indian Voice), Amy (British Voice) and Sally (American Voice).

Combination is wonderful. But i get problem.

Paul and James speak very fast whereas Amy speak very slow.

I wanted to change the settings but don't know how to change. I opened Windows Text-to-speech settings and found Ivona voices there but Neospeech voices is not there. I think they are made only for captivate.

I searched installation directory of Neo Speech and opened their VTeditor_Eng [ C:\Program Files\Adobe Captivate Voices 8\VT\James\M16\bin ]. Found settings there which include change of pitch, volume, speed, etc. but these changes doesn't effect in captivate.

Last thing, anyone has any idea about good TTS Indian Voice. Since I live in India, am looking for Indian Pronounciation.

Any help / suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Audio playing faster than video pictures

when importing a MP4 video file into my Captivate V.8.0.0.145 project, the audio part of the video plays faster than the pictures. (i.e. there is a delay between the audio and the picture) -

the video plays perfectly normal outside of Captivate.

Do you have any suggestions?

Text Entry Box--Advanced Actions--Conditional Statement--Double quotes in literal input value

Hello forums,

I'm new to the forums (and Captivate in general), but I'm having a real problem carrying out a tutorial design and I think you may be my only hope. Let me explain what I want to do and the difficulty that I'm having:

I'm an instruction librarian at a university, and I'm designing an interactive tutorial for English 100 students to complete in order to become familiar with how to search the library catalog. What I've done is taken a screenshot of the catalog search page, made it the background of a slide in Captivate (vers. 6), and placed a text entry box over the search bar in the screenshot. The idea is for the students to conduct a simulated search by choosing one of three suggested search string formulations, and depending on the search string they enter, the tutorial will jump to a slide featuring a screenshot of what the actual search results would look like. The idea is to emphasize the use of keywords over full-sentence phrases, and the use of double quotation marks to enclose multi-word search terms.

So I've set the action for the TEB to "Execute Advanced Actions" and then created some IF/THEN statements in the "Advanced Actions" pop-up window (with action type set to 'conditional'). The script is such that if the student enters the first search option (how does sleep affect college students) in the TEB, the tutorial jumps to 1 slide, if they enter the second option (college students AND sleep), featuring a Boolean operator (AND), the tutorial jumps to a 2nd slide, and if they enter the third option ("college students" AND sleep) with the double quotes around "college students" and the Boolean operator, the tutorial should jump to a 3rd slide. This action script works fine for the first two input options, but I can't make it work for the third search option.

I think that it has something to do with the fact that the third input option features double quote marks, and this seems to throw off the script (I tried a quote-less input value for the third IF/THEN just to make sure that it would work jumping to the 3rd slide and it did), and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can get around this issue. Again, I need it to work so that if the student enters "college students" AND sleep, with the quote marks and the Boolean operator, the tutorial will jump to a slide showing the search results if those search terms were used in a real search of the catalog.

I'd be extremely grateful for any help that anyone here can give me, we've been trying to make our online tutorials more engaging and interactive (and therefore more interesting), and I think this would be a great way to teach students about using quotes in their catalog searches.

Okay, can someone explain to me why you can tab through objects like buttons and interactions and playbar and toc but not clickboxes or rollovers? As in accessibility - tab, tab, tab, spacebar to select?

I don't get why not all interactive objects are available.

Captivate 8 Unknown Error returned after post of quiz results

I am posting quiz results to an Internal Server using the InternalServerReporting.php script. The entry gets written to the server but a result of "Unknown Error" is returned to the student. I have the captivate HTML file at the root (C:/Inetpub/wwwroot/). I have tried suppressing the Popup window for Student Name and Student ID by entering values in the cpQuizInfoStudentID and cpQuizInfoStudentName variables but I still get a return popup window with the "Unknown Error"

Retake Quiz results not updated by LMS

Does Captivate 7 send out a score update every time a test is taken (through a SCORM 1.2 LMS server)? I have the following situation

Quiz failed on first attempt
As designed, module presented trainee with retake offer.
Trainee passes quiz
LMS score does not update

What is the likely issue and how can I check for the score information that is being communicated to the LMS? I am not the LMS admin so I don't have access to the LMS.

Captivate 7 HTML5 Results Summary

I am having a strange issue when I publish to both HTML5 and Flash where the Results slide shows nothing other that the titles of the field and not the results. This only happens in the HTML5 version. seems to work fine with flash. For and example we have it set up for the Score, Max Score and Accuracy to display on the results slide. those fields show up. the actual score, max-score and percent do not. again only in the html5 version. Anyone have issues with this?

I am using the latest patch for Captivate 7.0.1.237

All text is set to white and shows up normally in the flash version. Just not on the Android, any browser.

Exporting slides to Microsoft Word

Hello!

I created slides in Adobe Captivate 8 and want to export it to MS Word.

I selected File - Print, than saved it in MS Word document.

But the quality of this slides is not very good: elements of every slide are blurred.

I have 2 questions:

How I can automatically repaint the entire contents of the slide in black and white?
Are there another ways to export contents of slide to MS Word?

Hi, I know there are quite a few posts and materials about this one but.. I can't get it right.

I read a lot and also did what an expert in that domain - Lilybiri - has proposed in her several blogs about the matter.

Actually, what I am looking for is an extremely simple thing. I use captivate 7. I have a project with 15 slides. The first 5 are with instructions about the asignment (we dont care about them for the timer). The last 10 are with the assignment itself. What I need is to count the time spent from Slide 6 to Slide 15. Tried the timer widget - it does not stop at slide 15 + it's looks cannot be customised. Also tried advanced actions and cpInfoElapsed... variable - apparently I am not that good to figure it out. The idea is to be able to tell the learner - you spent XX time to complete this assignment.

Would really appreciate a hand please.

Responsive Project -- Font and other issues

I'm brand new to Captivate, and am frustrated at the bugs I'm finding when trying to use it. I'm developing an online course that focuses on existing audio files, and adding multimedia and quizzes to it. I'm on the first module, using it to design the format, etc. and am finding the software very buggy. For example:

- Fonts: I'm using Verdana on a Responsive Project, and am using a lot of callouts, with certain lines in the callout bolded and underlined (e.g. "Learning Objectives") while the rest of the callout text is Normal. It looks fine when I play it in Captivate, but when I preview it in Chrome (I'm on Mac 10.9), the bold goes away, the font size is smaller, and may not even be Verdana.

- Editing: Duplicating an object sometimes keeps the original object linked somehow to the duplicated one, so when I move the duplicated one, it also moves the original object, even though only the duplicated one is not selected. My work around is to X all the assets except for the duplicated one, but that's a pain... why doesn't this work properly?

- "Play to end of slide" - if this is selected for an object, when I move it further along the timeline, it doesn't shorten the duration to the existing end of slide, it makes the slide duration longer... not what I want to have happen, obviously.

QUESTIONS:

1) Are these bugs specific to Responsive Projects, or do all Capivate projects have these issues?

2) Is there an easy way to change a project from a Responsive Project to a regular one? I've got about 50+ of these modules to design, and I want to make sure I get it right the first time.

3) Should I be investing in another platform like Articulate instead? This project is big enough that any extra money will be well spent if that works a lot better.

Captivate 7 and Audio Issues

Hi, I have been having with audio files in Captivate 7 when changing audio files for a specific slide. If I use the F6 functionality, sometimes the new audio file will be attached, sometimes it won't, and sometimes I will hear both audio files.

If I go into the library and remove all the audio files without first removing from the individual slides, sometimes the audio file will play on the slide when published. I cannot remove the audio file because I can see it in the library or on the film strip.

If I first remove the audio files from the slide, then remove the audio file from the library the file is definitely removed from the project.

Is this a bug in Captivate 7? Is there another way to ensure that the audio files have been updated without jumping through hoops. I've had a few projects I've had to recreate because of the audio issues.

Master Slide templates are not showing correctly once out of film view

I am having problems with the master view edit within captivate. I have correctly adjusted the slides to fit the design I want, however when I add a new slide with that layout the buttons and boxes are throw all over the place. As well, a lot of the objects I would like to delete in the quiz pages can not be deleted and when trying to change the text for the default correct, must answer questions box..etc I am not able to change this text.

I do have to publish with included videos as an intro and outro. If I publish them as swf and version 9 they perfectly show up. As soon as I am trying to publish them as mp4, instead of the videos the message "connection error" appears.

Is there any way to solve that?

Matching quiz options do not show in Firefox?

This is a curious one i wonder if anyone else has come across this, the options in a Matching quiz slide do not appear in the drop list in Firefox. You just get a blank drop list. You can select something but you can't see what you are selecting! Looking at the code i can't see anything particularly weird. Running latest versions of Firefox (and CP 8.01) so i don't know if this is a new bug or not. Has anyone else seen this or (probably doubtful i know) found a way to fix it?

I added a list of terms and their definitions and none of the definitions are showing in preview or published versions. The search box is also useless.

Any ideas?

Delay audio to speed loading?

I've read in other posts that you should put a short delay on the slide audio in order to speed loading. My understanding is that if you don't do this, Captivate will download all of your audio before it starts, which can slow the loading process.

But, the posts that I've found are several years old. Is that still the case?

Captivate 7 - jump back and forth between projects

I have two Captivate projects. I want to open the second from the first, but then I want to be able to jump back to the first on a specific page. For example, I want to open page of the second project from page 6 of the first, but when the second project is finished, I want the learner to jump back to page 7 of the first one. Can this be done?

Captivate 8 Responsive: Optimization Recommendations?

I have been creating responsive CP 8 SCORM 1.2 courses with a Moodle 2.7 back-end, and I have been receiving reports that the LMS API errors indicating trouble communicating, and that content has been slow albeit not the best of broadband speed. (I have been trying to view my responsive mobile courses on my iPhone 4 safari and it does not work that well either.) I am wondering if there are some recommendations to improve performance in these situations? Does server location also have to do with it as well?

I'm adding some audio under speech management.

When I try <vtml_partofsp part="noun">BOMs </vtml_partofsp>, the audio says it in one word but when I try to add BOM, it spells it out as BOM vs calling it out as BOM.

Does anyone know which syntax under <vtml_partofsp part> that I should use? I tried the following attributes and not getting much success for the audio calling it BOM (one word) as listed below

How to publish a video at a high resolution to a lower resolution format

I have been developing a couple of software simulation with a resolution of 1339 x 712 and was wondering if there is a method for me to publish the file using a lower resolution for example 1024 x 768. Under Publish settings, is there a setting I can use. I can't seem to find it.

AICC HACP

Does Captivate publish to AICC HACP? I know it can publish to AICC, but wondering about its ability to publish content as AICC HACP and support cross domain communication between the LMS and externally hosted course content.

So, I know there are two types of AICC courses:

AICC JavaScript API (JSAPI) - these courses behave similarly to SCORM courses and need to be hosted on our FTP space, as the JavaScript parts of the course don't work across two different domains.

AICC HTTP-based AICC/CMI Protocol (HACP) - these courses don't use JavaScript to transmit tracking data, so there is no inherent cross-domain limitation. Therefore these courses can be hosted remotely.

As far as I know, Captivate only does AICC JSAPI. This means they wouldn't be able to be hosted remotely out of the box. However, I don't know if this is the case for sure. There may be some functionality that I'm not aware of, or they may have added new functionality after version 5, which is the last I tested.

Captivate 8, HTML5: Unable to drag objects using the index.html

Using Captivate 8 and publishing to SWF and HTML5. In the published index.html file, I'm unable to drag anything in my drag and drop interaction.

Disabled Master Slide Objects on Top
Accept All disabled in Accepted Drag Sources
Set opacity of drop targets to 0%

The interaction works in the swf version of the course and the [project_name].htm file, just not in the index.html. When previewing in the browser from CP8, the interaction works, but not when previewing HTML5 in the browser.

Is there something I need to do to make the drag and drop interaction work in HTML5? Something I need to activate? Edit in the code?

I am new to using Captivate and my company has me using Captivate 7. I am tasked with creating a project (blank project) importing a video, and then returning to the Captivate project to take a quiz. The video quality is not good in HTML5 or MP4 when imported into the project. I have alternatively, linked within the slide a button to the HTML5 video, and successfully launched the video with perfect quality. I have created a button within the HTML5 video to go back to the original project. I see an option to go back to the project, but not to the specific slide where the quiz begins. What is the best way to accomplish this?

Who wants to be a Millionaire - Retake question

I am using the Who wants to be a Millionaire learning interaction in Captivate 8. Once a user answers a question incorrectly, the game ends. Is there a way to "retake" the game at the end?

Doesn't seem like there are many options to customize (besides the look of the game) in this widget.

I need to create a canned demo from Chrome website, what's the best app for audio etc

Hi, I'm new to used Creative Cloud ! I could really use some help to identify which App I should use to create a "canned" demo on a web based tool (in Chrome), I could use WebEx but that doesn't do the project justice - welcome any ideas / help, I know a few years back Adobe had an easy to use app that enabled individuals to create demos, host interactive sessions etc.

Table widget won't display in Captivate 8

Having problems with the Table Widget learning interaction in Captivate 8.

I can select the interaction, type and modify table contents and properties in the 'configure interaction' window, and it displays properly. See Image below:

When I click OK to finalise the interaction it will not display properly on the project page. See appearance in image below:

I am using in a responsive project, but will also do this in a blank project.

The other learning interaction widgets appear to display correctly on the page within captivate, only seems to be the table widget. When I publish for devices and view in a browser, the table appears to display as it should.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have subscribe to the creative cloud but captivate is not listed as an option. Is there a way to add captivate to my cloud applications?
