Can't create Smart Collection, Save-Button doesn't work

Hey everyone,

as the title says I can't create a Smart Collection because the Save-button doesn't do anything when I click it. The dialog box stays open. A reinstall was also not a solution.
How To Remove .jpg extensions in Bridge Galleries

I am not sure why Adobe Bridge, which created Flash Galleries keeps .jpg extensions in the file name, but I would like to remove them.

This was never an issue in versions prior to CS 5.5.

When I open flash and try to remove the .jpg extension the files are not recognized by Bridge any longer.

What's even worse, is once the Flash Gallery is created in the htm file, the .jpg extensions still remain in the name portion. Kinda dumb since the photos are now part of an htm Flash Gallery, and no longer a .jpg file.

Is there any work around this?

Thanks in advance.

Is there a way to export workspace settings?

The problem is, I work with a two-monitor setup. One is the actual working area with a painstakingly constructed layout of panels, the other one has a synchronized window with a full-screen Preview. Every once in a while I accidentally close the working area window, and because Bridge only saves a "current state" in workspaces, my painstakingly crafted window is just gone, poof (sound effect, not slang).

I know I can save a duplicate working space. That makes it somewhat easier, but I still have to delete the botched working space and create it again as a copy of the duplicate. This, coupled with the fact that the first stage of any troubleshooting on Bridge is to nuke all settings, makes me a bit uneasy with the solution.

I would be very grateful if someone knew of a way to export workspace settings so I could just load them back in when I mess up or Bridge does.

"Error writing metadata to" message and extended attributes

After being frustrated by this error message in Bridge while trying to apply keywords to various image files I finally took the time to investigate, and I think I found the cause of the issue. In a nutshell, if the extend attribute "com.apple.FinderInfo" has not yet been created for a given file, then this message appears.

The start of the puzzle was that some files would take the keyword and others would not. After observing identical permissions on files that worked and files that did not, I noticed that in a terminal listing of the files in question, some files had extended attributes and some did not (extended attributes are identified by an @ symbol when running ls -la in a terminal window. For example:

-rw-rw-rw-@ 1 mike staff 26131946 21 Jan 23:56 120114-133059-4612.cr2

-rw-rw-rw- 1 mike staff 5710 21 Jan 22:42 120114-133059-4612.xmp

-rw-rw-rw-@ 1 mike staff 27200794 17 Jan 17:52 120114-133145-4613.cr2

-rw-rw-rw- 1 mike staff 5702 21 Jan 22:42 120114-133145-4613.xmp

-rw-rw-rw-@ 1 mike staff 26973498 21 Jan 23:07 120114-133149-4614.cr2

-rw-rw-rw-@ 1 mike staff 6648 21 Jan 23:19 120114-133149-4614.xmp

As you can see, the file called 120114-133145-4613.xmp has not extended attribute, but the file 120114-133149-4614.xmp does. The former throws an error when applying a keyword, the latter does not.

So I dug a bit further and it appears that when the file attribute called com.apple.FileInfo is missing from an xmp file, metadata cannot be witten. The contents of this extended attribute for a working XMP file look like this

$ xattr -l 120114-133058-4611.xmp

com.apple.FinderInfo:

00000000 54 45 58 54 43 52 61 77 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |TEXTCRaw........|

00000010 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................|

00000020

According to specs I found googling, the first 4 bits identify the file type (TEXT), and the next four identify the file creator (CRaw). IOW no file-specific info seems to be present.

So as a test, I simply copied the contents of com.apple.FinderInfo from a file that had it to a file that didn't. Once the file that didn't received the new attribute, metadata writes worked. The command I used for the copy was

xattr -wx com.apple.FinderInfo "`xattr -px com.apple.FinderInfo 120114-133534-4633.xmp`" 120114-133041-4602.xmp

It also appears that this metadata is written by Bridge based on some unknown trigger, because occasionally during my investigation a file that previously would not take metadata suddenly did, and once I knew to look for extended attributes, in every case the file in question suddenly had com.apple.FinderInfo extended attribute.

So...I'm not sure if this is a bug in finder or in bridge, but it is definitely a bug and needs to be addressed.

...Mike

The normal screen appears with either Favorites or Folders showing, but no thumbnails. In the lower left corner, only part of the little rotating circle shows that normally indicates Bridge is working, and it is frozen. Sometimes if I just let everything sit for 5-10 minutes, the thumbnails eventually appear, but if I click on another folder it freezes again.

I have repeated trashed the Preferences and rebooted the computer, but it coninues to happen.
Bridge CS5.1 – Disappearing File Names (Now You Don't See It All)

Bridge CS5.1. Lion 10.7.2. 27" iMac native display at native resolution.

For some reason, in Lion (but not Snow Leopard) Bridge cuts-off the bottom line of long file names (see the screenshot). Irritating. Difficult if I'm trying to distinguish between ‘Long File Name (1)’ and ‘Long File Name (2)’ where the (1) and the (2) have partly disappeared off the bottom, hidden under the bottom scroll-bar.

It seems to be something to do with the window resizing as Bridge, whilst not adapting the size of the thumbnails to fit the window size, produces a scroll-bar instead (see bottom right hand corner of screenshot). This doesn't happen in Snow Leopard.

I've tried fiddling with all the parameters which could effect Bridge's window display, but to no avail.

You can add this to the the other display problem with Adobe Camera Raw (see previous postings). Nice if Adobe could fix this too.

Sorry, this screenshot is hopelessly and incomprehensibly small owing to Adobe’s image size upload restrictions – so you’ll have to trust me on the disappearing file names and the scroll-bar.

Bridge crashes when hitting spacebar to go into preview mode.

This continues until I have to force quit Bridge. When I restart bridge and try to do a new preview right away the same problem occurs imeditly.

I've tried to delete all the preffs both manually and automatically by holding down the option key during start up, but nothing helps. I've also installed the latest updates.

I'm on a pretty new Macbook Pro 2.53 GHz Intel i5 bought this summer with a SSD harddrive and 4gb of RAM if that is of interest.

Am I way off if I think it could have to do with the graphics card?

Well I'm thankful if anybody has solution for this.

Best,

Per

I built a very extensive keyword tree and imported into bridge. When I try to aplly multiples keywords, my nightmare begins.
First, it's extremely slow!
Second and even worse, it writes the first keyword and to write the next one it deletes the previous!
Bridge Randomly Changed Appearance of Folder Names...

I searched for an answer to this problem for 10 minutes, but I couldn't find anything. So, here I am.

Ok, so, my copy of Bridge CS5 4.0.0.529 used to show the names of my folders very similar to how Finder does. Meaning that the name of the folder used to just be right under the folder itself.

Well now, all of a sudden and for no apparent reason, Bridge puts the name of my folder in a "bubble" like label OVER the folder. You may be thinking, "Wow, this guy is way too picky." Well, that's not the major problem. The major problem is that Bridge decided to do it for SOME folders, and not others. So, to find a folder, I now have to select one, and scroll left or right until I find the folder I want as it won't give me the name of the folder unless it is selected.

I'm losing my mind!

It will, however, show the name of all of the folders if I make the icons at the bottom, HUGE, but that's stupid. I don't want to make them huge. I prefer to have them small, and my images large. I also refuse to use Bridge in any mode besides Filmstrip. For me, it's the best way to use Bridge.

Can anybody help me get it back to the way it was?

Please?

Thank you so much for your time and help.

Trackpad gestures not working with Bridge + Lion

I just got a new imac running Lion (10.7.2). Bridge CS5 is behaving strangely. On my old macbook which ran Snow Leopard, the trackpad gestures, namely the 3-finger swipe to go back/forward, worked fine in Bridge CS5. Since I installed Bridge on my new computer, that gesture no longer works. If I swipe back with no files selected, it goes back for a split second and returns to the current folder as soon as I let go. If I swipe back with a file selected, it opens that file. The scrolling gestures work fine, and swiping works in every program except for Bridge. Any ideas?

Moved Bridge location; Error operation could not be completed

I installed leopard, upgraded to 6.8, downloaded and installed lion, couldn't properly back up from a time machine back up or a migration so just started over and moved all my files over, (applications, libraries, system and bootup), keeping my music, movies and pictures on my main 500 gb. I also did a clead install of CS5 suite but Bridge is still a no go with the response that the operation could not be completed. I've looked around on these forums and have found that this comes up when you move the adobe applications. However I still have not found a soloution so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a unibody late 2009 white Macbook.

How to check for different crop aspect ratios

The problem I'm having is that I have hundreds of images that I need to send to a photo print lab. Before sending off my images I have to make sure they all will fit correctly for 8x10 prints (5:4 aspect ratio) and other ratios but I need to keep them cropped in my camera's default 3:2 aspect ratio for people who want to buy 4x6 prints.

So what I do when I open all my images in Bridge's Camera RAW browser is fit and crop any images that need cropping but using the 3:2 aspect ratio. I then need to check to see if my crop will work as an 8x10 crop picture so that nobody's heads are cut off, etc. The problem Bridge is giving me is that when I crop the first time it doesn't allow me to check another crop without losing the original first crop. For example, I do my first crop as an 3:2 aspect ratio and then when I click on 5:4 to check for 8x10 prints it resizes the crop area which lets me check the crop for 5:4 but when I go back to 3:2 it doesn't go back to the original crop so I have recrop the original crop from memory. Is there any way to solve this problem? Basically crop it twice without loosing the first crop so that I can go back.

Also is there any way to quickly click on all aspect ratios like 5x7, 8x10, etc and have the crop centered in the image so that I can quickly check if anything is cut off? My lab is a high volume automated photo lab so they crop by using the center of each picture and I can only give them one image per person. Most of my images don't need cropping because I try to do it in camera but I have to check to see if they will fit for other crop sizes. Currently Bridge makes me create the crop size manually and then visually center the crop over my image. I would prefer quick buttons that when clicked on will show me what the crop will look like in different crop ratios. Is there anyway to do that?

Thanks for any help you can give me

Bridge modifying .mov files?

Premiere can interpret .mts files but not Bridge?) and start adding metadata to them.

A few days/week back, I reopen the same folder and say, half of my .mov files are now unreadable. When I check them in the finder, they appear as "modified today a few minutes ago" and their size is in the few dozen of KB (vs ~100 MB before). Now I have to get back the original and go through the conversion process again...

Before I start screaming, has anybody experienced this? I will stop using Bridge (I was using it for its metadata handling capabilities, but at this price, no thank you).

iMac i7 12GB RAM, Lion, Prod Premium CS 5.5 up-to-date

I have tried on three different internet types and its the same across all of them... Attached is the error I get about it. It seems to fail when I have more than 13-15 pictures in an upload (usually I try to shoot for 47-60pix per album) Also, sometimes when I create an album in Bridge, it usually says false instead of the actual album name (quit and relaunch fixes) And all of this wasn't happening 2 months ago... Anyone seeing the same?
Bridge Keywords driving me nuts! Please help......

I've been directed here by the good people at Elements Village as I have a Bridge specific question that you guys may be able to help with.

I've been using Bridge (CS3, I think) with PSE V4 Mac for several years and have multiple and extensive keywords applied to all my tens of thousands of photos.

I've upgraded to PSE V8 Mac with Bridge CS4. The PSE side of things is fine now. But my Bridge keywords are completely screwed up. With some technical help I've been able to copy my keyword tree from one version to the other. But the problem is that although Bridge is reading my existing keywords, it's throwing them up out of sync, in different parents and in multiples of each keyword. So whereas I had created "All Kids" child keyword under "People" parent in my old version, in the new version "All Kids" appears twice - once as a new parent and again as a child under "Activities", as well as under the original "People" parent. I can't delete the extras as this will remove the tags from all of these photos. I can't move into the "People" parent as there is already a category there and I although I can deselect the incorrect "All Kid" tags and only select the child keyword in the correct place, when I search again on this keyword, it chucks them all up again, with multiple "All Kids" checked. Furthermore, not all photos that I've tagged with All Kids have all three "All Kids" keywords selected, some only have one or t'other tagged.

Obviously, I can make persistant one or both of the new "All Kids" keywords, but neither are in the correct place in my tree and neither will allow me to move them.

This has happened with ALL my existing keywords - multiple copies, in multiple locations.

I've tried resetting the Bridge preferences.

I've tried going through them keyword by keyword and deselecting the new, out of place keyword and re-selecting the correct keyword - to no avail. When I search again, new out of place keywords are thrown up.

I've tried going back to the new install basic keyword list and re building my keyword tree, but the minute I put in a search, out of place keywords are thrown up that I can't move into the correct parent.

I've tried starting again with my keyword system - I imagine this will take months and months and there simply HAS to be an easier way to do this.

I've read and re-read the online manual at Adobe and can find nothing that deals specifically with upgrading versions. As a fairly experienced Bridge user I'm aware of it's powers and am so disappointed that this is proving to be such as stumbling block. When I upgraded my Lightroom last year the move from one version to the next was totally seemless. And after minor teething trouble with the PSE side of things, that upgrade was also pretty straight forward, but this Bridge issue is really frustrating and I'm wondering whether to abandon this upgrade and go back to using Bridge CS3 (which is still installed and is saving my sanity work wise).

So, please, PLEASE, does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with this?

Thanking you in advance.

PS: I'm not super technical so need serious spoon feeding through this!

Hi there

After installing CS5 bridge only shows the first 2 pages of PDFs in the preview pane. Older PDFs seem to be ok, just not newly created ones. What am I doing wrong?

I note that there's a preference for this in InDesign for INDD/IDML previews - is there one for PDFs?

Thanks!

Luke

Bridge resolution changed

Previously I had processed all of our images at 600ppi. I import into iphoto then use CS3 (bridge and photoshop) to edit the images. Recently, the Bridge metadata in all of my images changed to 72ppi. I know this is not accurate as I have previously worked with these same images at 600ppi. When I double-click on the Bridge preview image, the Camera Raw box appears and the settings are at 600 ppi. When the image is opened in Photoshop, it is small and has a very low quality but the image size lists 600 ppi (the document size is very small).

I also checked the imported image in iphoto and it shows a much higher quality image. I do not know how to check the image resolution through iphoto.

I'm not certain if this is an issue with Bridge but that seems to be the point at which the visual image quality drastically decreases. I'm fairly new to CS3 so I may not be providing enough background info. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Spread Preview Issue - left page only

I'm in the catalog/magazine racket and just starting using InD 5.5 along with Bridge 5.1

When I save/convert documents from CS3 InD to 5.5, the preview in bridge 5.1 only shows the left hand page in my document. There is also a little chain icon in the upper right of the thumbnail. If you click on the thumbnail the preview will give you the option to click to the right page, but this is completely defeating the purpose of using Bridge to preview page layouts.

The prior version of Bridge we could view the spreads as thumbnails which is essential when I'm working with 100+ page documents. I can't just see 50 left hand pages as opposed to 50 spreads. The frustrating thing is we changed our entire workflow to accommodate Bridge previews and broke up multiple page layouts into spreads so we can see how everything flows page to page in our pubs.

Additionally, even the thumbs that are visible sometimes don't show all the information anyway.

I've searched for three days looking for settings in InDesign 5.5 and Br 5.1 to cure this but I've reached a dead end. Also, I've run the gammut on the InD file handling Prefs, "Saving InDesign Files" Can anyone let me know what is going on here? Is there a fix? if its working OK for you can you give me your settings so I can plug them in and see if it works?

Thanks All!

Bridge Image Processor always creates JPEG or TIFF folder, how do I change that behavior?

I have searched the web, Bridge forums, and Photoshop forums, and come up empty-handed. (The strange thing is, I know there used to be a post that answered this question a few years ago.) Anyway, I use Image Processor quite a bit, and it works great except for the annoying behavior of always creating a new folder to store the newly-created images.

I remember the solution is to change some line in a (XML?) file from "JPEG" to "". For the life of me, I can't find which file that is! I think it used to located down inside Application Support. I think.

Thanks for help on this, it's driving me crazy!

Jeff
