Blu-Ray Rendering and Authoriing

I've had AE CS4 for a few years and have been able to do just about anything and everything I needed to create video clips and compositions for things like wedding films and vacation videos. I have a blu-ray burner in my PC and wanted to actually do a test to see what kind of quality I can get from my camera, since it records 1920x1080 AVCHD at 60fps. I created a short 3 minute HD composition and tried rendering it a few different ways, none of which have been great. A Quicktime MOV was 62GB for a 3 minute clip; YIKES!! I tried the h264 Blu Ray setting and it ends up creating a m4v and wav file??? It separates the sound into a WAV and the video is an m4v, whatever that is. Then I tried a standard h.264 and it creates an MP4, but still without sound. A straight AVI was far too large! The only thing I've found that is small enough in file size and includes sound is an FLV file. I'm starting to think it's not worth the effort to make HD blu rays.

The bigger issue for me is finding something to author the blu-ray with. I have Sony DVD Architect, which is fantastic for DVDs. I guess it's supposed to support BDs as well. I see Adobe is dropping Encore. So this leads me to the most important question, if I wanted to burn a blu-ray with a menu system what the heck are you supposed to use??

Thanks if you read this far!

Combined Video / DVD-ROM only works with output directly to Disc

Hi all,

I produced a combined Video / DVD-ROM and have severall issues with output:

1. When I write the project directly on a DVD, all is ok

But in my current project, I wanted to write the project on a folder on the harddrive (just to send a master copy online)....

2. When I write the project in a folder on the harddrive, the video_ts is ok, but the data (html with 8 linked videos) won't play correct: On the starting page, there is a video-slider with preview-pictures, that are linked to the videos. The slider doesn't show the preview-pictures...

Question: What did Encore to my data? I thought, Encore only copys the files. But oviously, Encore handeled the data by writing to the harddrive in another way, than by writing to the DVD. Has anyone experience with this situation?

3. Another problem: When I replace the incorrect data section on the harddrive folder with the correct data section from the correct DVD-ROM Output, anything is ok - when I open the files in the harddrive folder. But when I burn a DVD with this mix, my DVD-Player can't read this DVD. I compared this DVD with the correct DVD and recognized no difference. In particular, there is a correct video_ts folder on both DVDs

Again the question is: what does Encore with the data? Respectively, what makes a DVD readable / not readable by DVD-Players.

Has anyone an idea, what is going wrong here?

Best regards

Markus

Here I am, happy as a clam, enjoying all the great new stuff with CC 2014, and then I get a job to make DVDs for a training video project -- and Encore is missing??

Ok, so I got Encore CS6 no problem -- but now I can't round-trip?? Seriously, Adobe? Why? Glad I took extra time to make sure I had all of my applications to complete this job, otherwise I'd be in serious trouble. I may have lost the contract.

Lack of roundtrip wasn't a deal breaker, but it seriously sucks when I estimated the entire job around workflows that I've been using for years.

Thing is, you don't provide a software tool faithfully for YEARS, and then pull something underhanded like this. No fall-back. No warning. Once Encore is gone, what then? I've used Scenerist, DVD Lab and Sony DVD authoring programs -- they're AWFUL. Apple's DVD Studio Pro was old but it kicked ***. Now we can't even download THAT. iDVD same thing. It feels like we're getting our hands cut off.

I need authoring that allows me to build menus and structures from scratch, not just templates -- these projects can't be satisfied with 'pop-n-play'.

Why is Encore not being updated to CC?

How to correctly identify and measure menu sizes

I've got a project that upon build says it's utilizing less than 4.7G. For that reason I began a build and after hours of processing it said there wasn't enough space even though Encore showed only 4.011G was used and over 600M was still available before the build. Seems like it shouldn't build if it's not going to work out.

Everything has been transcoded or is already converted to MPEG-2. However I've read just about every thread I can find on the subject of dealing with the 1G menu size limit and now a new anomaly, the Times and/or chapters adjusted warning, has appeared. I'm trying to understand how anyone can logically tie these back to something specific to troubleshoot and correct them. Just about every other error links back to the problem so you can adjust it, but these are vacuous.

My first question then is about menus and how a menu actually measured. What determines total file size, the menu itself or the content that is linked from the menu? Why not have a list of total menu sizes so you can see not only the individual file sizes, but the aggregates that impact the menu size limitation?

All my menus are static and link to video clips. My largest clip is about 511M of video and 265M of audio. That one is already converted to MPEG-2. I have less than 4.7G of content to burn to the DVD and appear to have plenty of headroom according to the build menu disk info.

My next question is about a file that Encore says is in use, but it isn't. It could be adding to my overall menu size, yet nothing is linked to it and no chapters appear to be in use with it. It should be an orphan, but not according to Encore. Again, shouldn't there be a logical way to identify that link? Managing a dependency that can't be found is a nightmare. None of the menus or timelines offer any insight about the mystery clip that can't be deleted. I read a thread that said they had a similar problem, but building forced the anomaly out. Didn't work for me.

Then lastly, the time and/or chapter adjusted problem has no suggested corrective action. It wasn't there before the build so why is it there now? Is it due to transcoding? I don't see any obvious changes to the timeline so where is the problem and how does is someone expected to troubleshoot it?

Shouldn't there be a glossary of error codes somewhere with at least some basic explanation?

Seems like a very clunky application, but when integrated with the rest of the Adobe Suite very powerful...if I can ever get a build to complete.

Any suggestions?

Message was edited by: Kevin Nay

So as not to waste anyone's time I'm assuming the transcoding adjusted the timeline/chapters and I was able to solve one problem by adding back in an ending chapter point. Remaining issue is the menu size however.

Encore won't import markers with bluray vid output from Premiere through Media Encoder

I have a sizeable video project, just completed, that needs to be output to DVD and BluRay. DVDs are done, no problem - the three timelines are each exported from Premiere by queueing them in Media Encoder. Side-car .xmp files are produced containing the chapter markers, and it all imports into Encore without issue, chapter markers are there, DVD burns successfully, works on DVD players, all good.

Now for the Blurays.... Same process as before, queueing the same timelines in Media Encoder, this time exporting using the H264 BluRay HD1080i 25 preset, the export works fine, no issues or error messages, but mporting into into Encore (using Import as Asset, Import as Timeline, etc), I get the error:

"Error parsing MPEG metadata file. Deleting or renaming "E:\YourVid\test.m4v.xmpses" will allow you to import, but any markers will be lost."

In other words, the markers file is either failing to export crrectly from Media Encoder, or failing to import correctly into Encore, or both.

I have never had this problem before, but this is the first exporting I have done with the latest versions of Premiere and Media Encoder, ie versions:

Premiere CC: 2014.1 8.1.0 (81) Build

Media Encoder CC: 2014.1 Build 8.1.0.122

Encore CS6: Version 6.0.2.004

... on Win 7 Pro 64bit

Can anyone help? Are other people having this problem? Is this a bug with the latest version of Media Encoder and/or Premiere, or is it just co-incidence and something else is the problem? And most importantly, is there a sensible workaround (ie other than just re-making all the chapter markers in Encore?) Can I export the chapter markers from Premiere into Encore some other way?

Please help!!!

Button problems with Encore

Hi,

So I'm having some problems with creating custom Menu buttons in Encore (CS5). There are two problems I'm having. The first is that although I believe I've created the buttons correctly in PS, when the file is imported into Encore it doesn't seem to recognise the highlight as a separate layer. I.e, I have a layer group called "(+) Play", within it the text layer "Play All" and the highlight layer "(=1) Highlight", but in Encore the text and highlight button are being treated as the same thing, with the highlight layer (in this case a circle) always visible, regardless of whether Encore is set to be in standard state or otherwise. What am I doing wrong here? I've watched so many tutorial videos on this and I can't see I'm doing anything different.

As for the second problem, after being frustrated to the point of feeling like I am actually insane, I decided to just use a button preset from the library and add it to my custom menu background, thinking I could just modify the button as I wanted to. Problem is, as soon as I drag the button from the library into the monitor window Encore crashes. Every time. Doesn't matter what button it is. It also crashes when I try to add a button to a preset menu template.

If anyone can enlighten me here I'd be very grateful.

Yours sincerely,

Lobotomised.

How well does Encore CS6 transcode?

I find now that encore CS6 does not bring in my chapter markers, so I need to use dynamic link and transcode in encore. I've selected presets that are the same as those I used when I exported from premiere. Any opinions as to whether the quality of the encore transcode will equal that of my export from the premier pro timeline? If not, I'll just have to add my chapter markers in encore. Thanks.

How can I create seamless intro and outros in Encore DVD menus?

Hello. I am using Encore CS6, and would like to have an intro animation seamlessly transition into the main menu which loops if no selection is made. After a selection is made I would like my outro animation to play before playing my feature timeline. I would like to know how to do this without any black frames popping up during these transitions.

I have been doing much research on this, and it seems that I should create an animation with the intro and looping menu in the same video file, and set the loop point where the intro becomes the menu.

Then my only questions are how do I have the buttons visible only during the looped portion, and how do I provoke the outro to seamlessly play before my feature when selecting a button?

Thanks so much for any help.

Best,

-Stephanie

EDIT: I have found you can link your buttons to transition with a video file. This isn't exactly seamless, but it works.

I am still trying to figure out how to make the button icons appear later in the menu, without separating the intro from the menu completely. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

EDIT 2: By selecting Default Button: None you can effectively erase the button from the intro animation. I would like, however, for the button to appear at a certain point, but this does not seem possible. I guess the user will have to select a button manually.

I have spent two full work days making and throwing away so many DVD's trying to fix this problem

What I am trying to do (nothing crazy!):

Make a DVD with a TV program that is 1:23:40.

I made a basic blank menu with a text button linked to the program timeline.

I preview everything, and it all looks and sounds great. **

My problem:

Once I burn my DVD I put it in the DVD Player and my audio is EXTREMELY low.

What I have Tried:

It took me a couple of times to get everything sounding great in the preview portion in Encore. At first I would export my project in premiere to encoder and encoded it using the DVD settings for NTSC, then I tried to do it with my original ProRes settings, but with those the audio was super low in the preview too.

So today I just simply exported my project from premiere straight to my desktop as .mov and Imported that into encore as a timeline. That is when the preview sounded perfect audio wise. However, once I burned the DVD I still ran into the same exact problem of SUPER LOW audio.

I tried the support by adobe but apparently they no longer offer that for Encore. These forums are my only option the guy said. Shame on Adobe for discontinuing their support for Encore

If anyone has had this issue and can help me I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Please email me directly at Staceyk.howell@yahoo.com with ADOBE AUDIO as the subject.

The email associated with this account is from our corporate office (which we don't have the log in for...) so I won't get notifications to responses back.

Thank you all and I hope I made sense!

-SKH
