Hello Chris Campell,
my W8.1 is uptodate June 12., only two optional updates (bing+silverlight) would be available,
but active_x produces an error 1722 and does not install. Will there be a patch from MS or an
update of Flash Player 14?
Thanks in advance!
Best regards,
Ulrich Wendl

A Flash Player update for Internet Explorer on Windows 8.x was released by Microsoft on July 8 2014: https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/2755801
If Windows Update gives you an error, you need to sort it out with Microsoft.

it's not Windows (Update has it already installed), the Flash Player gives the error

Hello,
You cannot install Flash Player for Internet Explorer separately on Windows 8.x. Microsoft embeds Flash Player in Internet Explorer and Flash Player updates are distributed via updates to Internet Explorer. You can update Internet Explorer one of two ways:

So what's the problem, then ?

it has been the install_flash_player_14_active_x.msi downloaded from Adobes
"http://www.adobe.com/de/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html"
respectively its error message which made me confused. Hopefully it is now the
latest and save IE and Flash Player, and there is no error message the next time.
Call me old-fashioned, but i don't like the automatically installing updates...

You can configure Windows Update to update exactly the way you want.

Hi ohneadobe,
The Adobe - Flash Player page lists the current versions of Flash Player for the various supported platforms. If you navigate to this page it'll detect the version installed (for the browser in use). You can then compare it to the current version listed in the table to determine if you have the most current version installed or not.

OK! Let's take 7 steps ... an easy answer to a focus problem not a machine problem. (MAC!)
1.1. Download the Adobe Flash Player file version 14 at Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
1.2 or dowonload the above link: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player_osx.dm g
2.1 Double-click the AdobeFlashPlayerInstaller_14_ltrosxd_aaa_aih.dmg in your download folder
4. Do not double-click the red face (png file) - Installer "Install Adobe Flash Player".
5. Right click the face to perform a precise selection: Show Package Contents.
6.1 Select - Contents and double click; Select - Resources and double click; Select - Adobe Flash Player.pkg and double click.
6.2 Warning!! Select - Contents and double click; Select - Resources and double click; Select - app.bundle and copy it to your internet plugin folder (more work!!)
7. Select: Continue and complete your installation.

Your instructions are for Mac OS, not Windows 8!

@Alexander,
As Pat mentions, your instructions are for Mac, not Windows 8. In addition, you have posted the same exact (incorrect) MAC instructions on four different WINDOWS threads. Please read the thread before posting irrelevant information that doesn't provide assistance to the original issue.
-----
Microsoft embeds Flash Player in Internet Explorer on Windows 8 and above. There is absolutely no way to install Flash Player ActiveX (EXE or MSI) for Internet Explorer separately from the Internet Explorer update. If the system is configured to receive/install updates automatically, Internet Explorer update will install automatically. If the system is not configured to receive/install updates automatically, the user has to manually check for updates, and in this case, previous updates that were not installed may have to be installed before newer updates become available for installation. Microsoft releases updates every second Tuesday of the month (a.k.a. Microsoft Tuesday). If the system is not configured to receive/install updates, users should check for updates the second Tuesday/Wednesday of the month.
