Try to deactivate the GPU and see if this helps:

Adobe Lightroom GPU Troubleshooting and FAQ

Can you be a bit more specific about 'hangs'. Locks up, slows down or ... and when you do what exactly in which module of LR?

Please also post the exact type of your CPU.

LR does not play well with more than 4 cores.

Read here: Terrible performance in LR - Fantastic in PP. What gives?!

I think resetting the preferences does not help., but since it cures all sorts of strange effects in LR I'd try: Resetting Preferences in Lightroom CC/6

Otherwise, I'm out of ideas except for a reinstall of LR: Download Photoshop Lightroom

Basic 6.0 first, test and then upgrade to 6.9.

Me too.  Lightroom just hung three times doing simple work.  Happen twice when I change from develop to library and once when i changed from smugmug to Library.  Very frustrating.2018-03-24.png

This brushing and spot healing are known problem in Lightroom, especially with your large 4K monitor. There are several things you can try to speed things up:

  1. Do the brushing and spot healing in Photoshop
  2. Do the brushing and spot healing as the next to last editing step, and as the last step turn on Lens Corrections and Transforms
  3. Get a faster CPU
