I just downloaded Premier Pro CC 2017 and when I try to import via media browser, there is no tab for it and when I click on "File", it is grayed out. If I import a file traditionally and put it on the time line, there is no audio. I have searched and found many answers for how to get the sound to import (none work), however, I think mine is related to the media browser apparently not being loaded. Suggestions?

What happens if you hit "Shift+8" or go to your "Window" dropdown menu and pull down to "Media Browser"? Does your Media Browser panel open up?
When you pull down the "File" menu I assume when you say "it is grayed out" you are talking about the "Import from Media Browser" choice? I'm pretty sure the "Import from Media Browser" menu choice only works when you have a clip to import already

My first thought is to upgrade to 2018.

As far as your video clips being imported with out audio, here's something that might help if you've not tried it. FAQ: MP4, MOV, AVCHD files import without audio in Premiere Pro CC (2015.3) and CC 2017

Shift +8 did bring up the panel (thank you!) and I was able to import an MTS file, but no sound with it (an AVI does work). I did do the FAQ you listed and it did not work. I saw a youtube video mentioning the same thing, only it suggested renaming the cache file from common to commonold..this did not work. The FAQ suggests common_old, did it that way and it did not work. Interesting thing is CC 2017 works fine on a second computer (a cheap backup I built), biggest difference between the two is the chipset, one is a Corei7 (computer where the sound doesn't import) and the other is an AMD. I've been using CS6 on my main editing computer and it looks like I'll have to continue doing it.
