Hello,

I have had CS5.5 Design Premium (Windows) since 2011. it has been working fine until two weeks ago when Adobe Illustrator stopped saving .AI files. It would just freeze and close.

On the advice of Adobe Customer Care, I followed the steps outlined here: Troubleshoot Windows system errors, freezes | Adobe software

Nothing helped, but after reinstalling I got the following error message:

Exit Code: 6

I am not that tech savvy so I have no idea what the error codes mean, so I decided to see if there were any problems with Photoshop or Illustrator (the main ones I use). Oddly, Illustrator now save .AI files, BUT the text function in both do not work. Adobe Photoshop the following message appears:

'Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized'

That's the only problem I have noticed.

Thanks for reading, I hope someone can help me figure this out!

Two ideas that MAY work to install and/or run old programs in Windows 10

-RIGHT click the program icon or EXE and select a compatibility mode in the pop up option window

-or Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 to assign FULL Windows permissions may help... this says Encore, but is sometimes required for ALL Adobe programs (this is NOT the same as using an Administrator account) so follow the instructions for your specific program

Also... every time Microsoft issues a Win10 update, there is the risk that an old program that HAS been working after the initial Win10 upgrade will STOP working... bottom line, old programs require a matching old operating system
